Supergirl Defender Of Love

Chapter 27: The Brotherhood Of Idiots

Kara stretched her arms over her head, sighing contentedly as she strolled down the bustling streets of New York, hands casually tucked behind her head. The sun reflected off the glass buildings, the city's usual chaos humming around her, but she wasn't paying much attention to any of it. She was too busy listening to Rogue ramble about something or other as she walked beside her, seemingly fascinated by every mundane detail about the world. Kara found it amusing—how easily entertained Rogue seemed, how she clung to her every word like it was the most interesting thing she had ever heard.

"I mean, the food alone is incredible," Rogue mused, her fingers brushing lightly against Kara's arm in a way that would have seemed accidental if she hadn't done it three times already. "I don't think I've ever had a better slice of pizza than yesterday."

Kara grinned. "Told you. Pizza's a science here."

What Rogue didn't say was that every time she touched Kara, she felt another rush of strength. It was subtle—nothing dramatic or obvious—but it was there, feeding into her body like a slow IV drip of raw, unfiltered power. She had never experienced anything like it before. Normally, when she absorbed someone's abilities, it was violent, invasive, and left the victim weak or unconscious. But with Kara? It was effortless. Kara didn't even notice, didn't react, didn't feel a thing. She was the perfect power source. An infinite well of strength.

And Rogue was never letting her go.

She adjusted her expression, keeping her gaze soft, her voice light. "I just—I don't know, I feel… comfortable with you, Kara." Another brush of fingers, another pulse of energy. "Like I can actually relax."

Kara chuckled, nudging her shoulder. "That's good. You deserve to chill."

Natasha, walking a few steps ahead, glanced over her shoulder, eyes narrowing slightly. She had been watching Rogue all morning, tracking every move, every touch, every calculated glance she threw at Kara. Something was off about her. The way she played up her innocence, the way she always seemed to position herself just close enough to Kara to linger in her space but never intrude too obviously.

She didn't trust her. Not one bit.

Neither did Gwen, who walked beside Natasha with her arms crossed, her sharp gaze flickering between Kara and Rogue. "She's doing it again," she muttered under her breath.

Natasha didn't need to ask what Gwen meant.

Wanda, floating beside them just slightly above the ground, smirked. "Oh, let her have her fun."

Gwen shot her a glare. "Fun?"

Wanda's grin widened. "I like watching the game."

Rogue, completely aware that she was being scrutinized, didn't react. That was the trick—never let them know they're getting to you. Keep your posture relaxed, your expressions soft, your words gentle. She wasn't just good at playing this role. She was perfect at it.

Kara yawned, stretching again, the motion causing her shirt to ride up slightly, revealing the smooth, toned lines of her stomach. The effect was instantaneous. Gwen's eyes flickered before she tore them away, her jaw clenching. Natasha exhaled through her nose, but there was the slightest hesitation before she looked away. Wanda? Wanda wasn't even trying to be subtle about it, her eyes lazily dragging over Kara's body with an entertained smirk.

Rogue noticed all of it.

They were all obsessed with her.

It was beautiful.

She wasn't just fighting for Kara's attention. She was fighting to own her.

Kara, completely unaware of the tension she was causing, continued walking, glancing around. "Man, I love this city. I could just wander around all day."

Natasha hummed. "You basically do."

Kara grinned. "Yeah, but now I've got company. Makes it more fun."

Rogue smiled, playing along, but her mind was elsewhere. She had felt it earlier. The shift in the air, the way certain people in the crowd had been watching Kara too closely. Not with admiration, like the others, but with calculated interest. Like they were studying her.

She wasn't the only one coveting Kara's power.

She turned her head slightly, catching a glimpse of a figure across the street. A man, watching from the alleyway, his gaze fixed on Kara. His eyes glowed faintly, a sign of mutation.

Rogue knew the look of someone hunting.

She hid her smirk. Oh, this was going to be interesting.

Natasha caught the movement too, her gaze shifting slightly. Gwen stiffened beside her, picking up on it as well. Wanda merely tilted her head, her red eyes glinting with amusement.

None of them spoke about it. Not yet.

But the message was clear.

Someone was watching Kara. And soon, they would make their move.

Rogue was already one step ahead.

She just had to make sure she got rid of them first.
