Chapter 28: What Brotherhood Kara Has A Sisterhood Of Yanderes
Kara strolled down the crowded streets, hands tucked behind her head, the warm afternoon sun glinting off the glass buildings above. The city was alive with energy, people weaving around each other, cars honking, vendors calling out their latest deals. She loved it. The noise, the chaos, the sheer vibrancy of everything—it was so different from the kind of destruction she usually associated with big cities back home. There was a rhythm to it, a life she found herself wanting to sink into.
Rogue walked beside her, playing the part of the soft-spoken, curious girl who seemed endlessly fascinated by everything Kara did. It was cute, in a way. She asked questions about places, food, random people, and Kara answered them all with a grin. What Kara didn't notice—because she never did—was how Rogue's fingers lightly brushed against her arm every so often, her touch fleeting but deliberate. Every contact sent another pulse of energy into Rogue's body, another slow, delicious surge of power. It was subtle—just enough that she could feel it, that she could tell it was building—but Kara? She was completely oblivious.
Natasha noticed. Gwen noticed. Wanda definitely noticed.
They weren't sure what Rogue was doing, but they didn't like it. Natasha, who had been scanning the area as they walked, pretended not to be paying attention, but her gaze flickered back to Rogue every so often. She knew something was off about her, knew that her behavior around Kara wasn't normal, but without proof, she couldn't move against her yet. Gwen, on the other hand, wasn't as subtle. She had been throwing Rogue dirty looks all afternoon, her hands shoved deep into the pockets of her hoodie like she was physically restraining herself from ripping Rogue away from Kara. Wanda? Wanda was just having the time of her life watching the game unfold.
"I don't get it," Kara said suddenly, stopping in front of a hot dog stand, tapping her chin as she studied the menu. "Why do I want this so badly? I don't even need to eat, but I still get cravings."
Rogue gave her best innocent smile, tilting her head slightly. "Maybe it's just nice to enjoy the little things?" Another touch, another surge of power. She was getting so much stronger.
Kara grinned. "Yeah, that's probably it."
"Don't eat that," Natasha said flatly.
Kara blinked at her. "Why?"
"Processed garbage."
Kara frowned. "But I want it."
Natasha sighed, rubbing her temples. Gwen let out a snort of amusement. Wanda? Wanda just smirked. "Let her have her trash food, Romanoff. It's not like it'll kill her."
Natasha gave her a long look before sighing. "Fine. But if you start craving more, don't come crying to me when you get hooked on fast food."
Kara grinned, stepping forward to order, but that was when she felt it.
Something shifted in the air.
Her enhanced hearing picked up something strange—whispers, hurried movements, heartbeats that were racing just a little too fast. It wasn't quite the same as the casual bustle of the city. It was deliberate. She turned her head slightly, scanning the crowd, but saw nothing unusual.
Natasha stiffened. "We're being watched."
"I know," Gwen muttered.
Wanda exhaled through her nose, tilting her head slightly. "They're close."
Kara raised a brow. "Uh… who?"
Before anyone could answer, the attack came.
A figure lunged from the alleyway—a mutant, his skin like hardened stone, his arms lined with jagged protrusions that made him look like a walking wrecking ball. He went straight for Kara, his movements fast and aggressive, his intent obvious.
Natasha reacted instantly, but before she could even draw her weapon, Rogue was already moving. She stepped in front of Kara, her hand snapping up to grab the mutant's wrist. Contact. The absorption hit instantly—his strength, his durability, all of it rushing into her like a dam breaking. The man barely had time to gasp before his body seized up, his eyes rolling back. His skin dulled, his strength vanished, and he collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut.
Kara blinked. "Whoa."
Rogue let go, frowning down at the unconscious mutant, flexing her fingers like she wasn't quite sure what to do with all the power she had just taken. She hadn't meant to act that fast, but the thought of someone attacking Kara had made her react before she even thought about it.
Wanda smirked. "Not bad."
Kara, as usual, was completely unbothered. "Guess I should be flattered?"
Natasha's gaze was sharp as she studied Rogue. "You absorbed him."
Rogue kept her expression neutral. "Yeah. Didn't have a choice."
Gwen clenched her jaw. "There's more."
She was right.
A second figure moved—this one from the rooftop. A woman, her arms glowing with stored kinetic energy, leapt toward them. Wanda barely lifted a hand before the woman froze mid-air, her entire body locking up as if the laws of physics had simply forgotten to apply to her.
She screamed.
Wanda sighed, her red eyes gleaming. "Oh, shut up."
With a flick of her fingers, the mutant's body contorted violently before she was slammed into the nearest building, knocking her unconscious on impact.
Kara, who had turned back to pay for her hot dog, looked over at the sound. "Did something happen?"
The other four stared at her.
Natasha ran a hand over her face. Gwen looked like she was ready to combust. Wanda was barely holding in laughter. Rogue? Rogue was just in love.
"No, Kara," Natasha said slowly. "Everything is fine."
Kara nodded, grabbing her hot dog and taking a bite. "Cool."
Meanwhile, in the shadows, someone was watching.
A man stood atop a nearby rooftop, arms folded, his gaze unreadable as he observed the entire scene from a distance. He hadn't expected the ambush to succeed—not really. It had been a test. And the results? Interesting.
He pressed a button on his communicator. "Report to Magneto," he said smoothly. "She's stronger than we thought. And she's protected."
There was a pause on the other end, then a voice, deep and commanding.
"Keep watching her."
The man smirked. "Oh, I will."
Back on the street, Kara finished her hot dog, stretching her arms again, completely oblivious to the bodies scattered just outside her field of view.
"This was fun," she said brightly. "Where to next?"
Natasha exhaled. Gwen muttered something about needing a drink. Wanda just laughed.
Rogue?
Rogue looked at Kara, at the sheer perfection of her, at the **limitless power she was just walking around with—and she knew.
She wasn't letting anyone take her.
Not Magneto. Not the Brotherhood. Not Xavier.
Kara was hers.
They just didn't know it yet.
