Su Yi, The Pokemon(?) Master (Pokemon X Monster Hunter Fanfic)

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Establishing Camp and the Capture Plan

In the secluded valley, Su Yi and his group had long departed, leaving behind only a field of broken bones and flesh.

Soon, the silence was shattered by heavy footsteps.

Thud… Thud… Thud!

A massive, dark green figure entered the valley and quickly noticed the remains of the Legiana's corpse.

Crunch! Crunch!

The newcomer showed no hesitation towards the shredded carcass, devouring it greedily, bones and all.

But this was clearly not enough to satisfy its hunger. Lowering its head, it sniffed the scent of lingering flesh, then began to follow a trail, step by step, toward a certain direction.

At the temporary camp, Su Yi was using rocks and bones to construct a simple grill, preparing to roast some Aptonoth meat.

The Great Jagras, well accustomed to such meals, patiently waited for the meat to cook.

On the other hand, the Great Girros, having spent its life feeding on scraps and rotting carcasses, had never seen anything like this before. The irresistible aroma from the roasting meat captivated it, and drool uncontrollably dripped from the corners of its mouth.

"Hold on!" Su Yi chuckled, watching the restless Great Girros struggle to contain itself.

Under the intense heat, the Aptonoth meat gradually turned golden brown. Su Yi sprinkled some seasoning, and instantly, a rich, mouthwatering aroma filled the camp.

The Great Jagras carefully chewed its meat, savoring the flavors. In contrast, the Great Girros went straight for a massive chunk, tearing into it voraciously and swallowing it almost whole.

Su Yi shook his head with a sigh. "Poor thing... Here, don't rush. There's plenty more."

As he spoke, he handed the Great Girros another piece of meat.

Listening to Su Yi's words, the Great Girros began to slow down, taking its time to truly taste the meal.

The tender marbled meat, seared to perfection, released rich, savory fats and proteins, while the seasonings enhanced its complex layers of flavor. Su Yi's skilled roasting technique ensured a perfect texture in every bite.

The Great Girros was instantly enchanted—this roasted meat was on a completely different level from the cold, decaying carcasses it had once eaten. Having tasted true food, it never wanted to go back.

Seeing this, Su Yi grinned and patted the Great Girros on the head, speaking boldly:

"Stick with me, and you'll eat like a king every day! One day, we'll feast on all the delicacies the New World has to offer!"

"So, just follow my lead!"

The Great Girros hesitated for a moment. But the temptation of delicious meals was simply too strong. And after all, a fight is a fight—doesn't matter where or for whom.

With the wisdom of a Pokémon, the Great Girros figured it out instantly—then gave a firm nod of agreement.

Su Yi chuckled and continued working.

The freshly skinned Pteryx hide was still untreated, so Su Yi began the preparation process. He carefully scraped off the fat and tissues, rinsed it with water, then set it on the grill to dry out.

Since he lacked tanning materials and proper tools, this was the best he could do to process the hide.

Once the dried Pteryx hide hardened, Su Yi got to work stitching a tent cover.

Drawing on his basic hunting knowledge, he spent several hours painstakingly sewing together a simple tent sheet.

Using bones to construct the frame, he stretched the hide over it and secured it firmly.

And just like that—a rudimentary camp was finally complete.

Opening the Hunting Guide, Su Yi saw that this location had now been marked as an official camp. He let out a sigh of relief.

"Time to test out the tent."

Stepping inside, Su Yi laid down his sleeping bag and crawled in.

The Pteryx-hide tent provided excellent wind resistance and warmth. Before long, drowsiness crept over him.

For days, he had been on the move, fighting while injured, with no time to properly rest.

Though his journey through the Rotten Vale had been perilous, he had gained valuable rewards along the way.

And now, at last—he could rest.

The tent, made from Wyvern hide, was both windproof and warm. Before long, Su Yi, lying in the sleeping bag, began to feel drowsy.

For the past few days, he had been traveling with injuries, never having the chance to properly rest. Though this unexpected journey to the Vale of Miasma had been rough, it had also been quite rewarding.

Su Yi opened the Hunting Guide again and flipped to the Companion Beasts page.

[Name: Great Girros]

Species: Great Girros(Male)

Type: Dragon, Dark

Trait: Ruthless Squad (Can summon Girros's for assistance. Under this trait holder's command, Girros's gain a slight combat boost.)

Paralysis Venom (Signature move, Power: 20, Electric-type, Special Attack. Sprays venom that can cause paralysis. When the paralysis threshold is reached, the opponent immediately enters a paralyzed stiffened state.)

Pack Attack

Bite

Thunder Fang

It was clear that the Great Girros could only fully utilize its trait within the Vale of Miasma. Outside of this area, it was just another status-inflicting fighter.

However, as mentioned before, what Su Yi valued most was its ability to command other Girros's, which would greatly aid his exploration of the Vale.

At present, Su Yi's team of companion beasts and Pokémon had grown to seven:

Companion Beasts: Great Jaggi, Kulu-Ya-Ku, Great Girros, Rucao

Pokémon: Chansey, Larvesta, Scolipede

Except for Scolipede, which he hadn't interacted with much, the rest of his team were all active in battle, filling the six-member party limit.

Flipping to the Quest page, Su Yi noticed that his previous missions involving Deviljho, Nargacuga, and Kushala Daora had automatically disappeared after three days of failing to find any traces of them.

However, due to his recent interactions with monsters in the Vale of Miasma, the golden finger had generated a new investigation report, which in turn unlocked new missions.

[Quest: Capture an Odogaron]

[Quest: Hunt a Bazelgeuse]

5 Flash Bombs

1 Paralysis Trap

Quest Reward:

15 High-Rank Capture Balls

5 Trap Tools

2 Ancient Max Potions

3 Target Materials

Time Limit: 10 Days

Closing the golden finger, Su Yi sighed, "The Odogaron quest seems doable, but hunting a Bazelgeuse is out of the question."

The five Flash Bombs and one Paralysis Trap provided in the quest support wouldn't make a decisive difference, especially considering the first condition was breaking a body part.

However, this time, the quest rewards included a new addition—target materials.

This solved the issue of capturing monsters but not being able to carve materials to craft gear for Rucao.

Since Su Yi wasn't the main combatant, it wasn't a big deal. But ensuring his Felyne companion was well-equipped was a top priority.

Right now, with the Great Girros captured, he had gained a status-inflicting fighter. Additionally, he had acquired materials from Legiana and a Black Diablos horn, which were enough to craft two weapons and a full set of Legiana armor for Rucao.

Although this adventure had deviated from his original plan of heading to the Wildspire Waste, the rewards had been substantial.

Su Yi pondered strategies for capturing an Odogaron and slowly drifted into sleep.

In the pitch-black Vale of Miasma, time was unknown.

Inside the rocky cave campsite, Su Yi was suddenly awakened by a series of roars.

Listening carefully at the edge of the campsite, he identified one roar as belonging to an Odogaron. The other, however, was that terrifying, blood-chilling roar he had heard multiple times but had never seen the source of.

Su Yi had already formed a strong suspicion regarding the owner of that roar—he just needed evidence to confirm it.

"Sigh... No risk, no reward."

Su Yi called Rucao, patted the five Poké Balls at his waist, and cautiously stepped out of the camp.

Author's Note:

Previously, I used gender symbols next to Companion Beast names, but I just realized that they disappear upon saving or posting. So, I have revised them to Chinese characters for gender indication.

This also means I have to go back and edit previous chapters to reflect this change.

Additionally, I hadn't specified the gender of the Pokémon, so here they are:

Great Jagras (♀)

Kulu-Ya-Ku (♂)

Great Girros (♂)

Luchao (♂)

Chansey (♀)

Larvesta (♀)

Scolipede (♂)
