Su Yi, The Pokemon(?) Master (Pokemon X Monster Hunter Fanfic)

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Encircling the Odogaron – The Chaos Returns

Seeing the Odogaron appear, Su Yi was startled at first, but after a moment of thought, he found it perfectly reasonable.

The unique terrain and environment of the Rotten Vale meant that most of the monsters here had no qualms about scavenging leftovers and corpses.

Every day, bodies from the Coral Highlands tumbled down into the Rotten Vale, serving as an all-you-can-eat buffet for its denizens. If the Great Girros knew about this feeding ground, then there was no reason why the Odogaron wouldn't as well.

Every corpse pit was like a banquet hall, and monsters familiar with these spots would frequently come to test their luck.

Clearly, this time, Su Yi and the Odogaron had chosen the same feeding ground.

"This time, it's different from before—I have the advantage! Great Girros, call for reinforcements!" Su Yi commanded.

The Great Girros had long harbored a grudge against the Odogaron. It lifted its head, vibrating the skin folds on its neck, releasing a peculiar cry.

Within moments, shadows flickered in the surroundings, and over a dozen Girros swiftly arrived.

Sniff! Sniff!

The Odogaron, overwhelmed by the sudden influx of scents, became visibly uneasy.

"Let's make things even livelier! Great Jagras! Kulu-Ya-Ku!"

Su Yi released his two other companions.

In an instant, three large monsters and a swarm of smaller ones began to close in on the Odogaron.

Howls!

Screeches!

Roars!

The feeding ground erupted into a deafening cacophony. The Odogaron's head darted left and right, its claws twitching nervously.

Click!

Su Yi loaded Torch Pods into his slinger, keeping his eyes locked on the Odogaron.

Finally, hunger and agitation drove the Odogaron over the edge—with a furious snarl, it lunged toward an opening, trying to break free.

Su Yi reacted instantly, firing a Torch Pod.

Boom!

Flames erupted, startling the Odogaron, causing it to halt its charge.

And in that moment of hesitation, the Girros pack pounced as one, their paralyzing fangs sinking into its flesh.

ROAR!

The Odogaron let out a furious snarl, thrashing wildly, sending Girros flying in all directions. But more kept coming, biting and clinging onto its body.

With each bite laced with venom, the paralysis gradually began to take hold.

"Great Girros, use your paralyzing venom!" Su Yi commanded.

The Great Girros reared its head and spat out a glob of yellow-green toxin, hitting the Odogaron squarely.

Instantly, the poison seeped through its skin, combining with the accumulated venom from the Girros bites.

Sparks of electricity flickered across the Odogaron's body as it convulsed violently, its movements slowing.

"Now's our chance! Great Jagras, Dragon Claw! Kulu-Ya-Ku, Rock Smash!"

At Su Yi's command, his companions rushed in, tearing into the helpless Odogaron.

Watching the Odogaron being overwhelmed, a bold idea flashed through Su Yi's mind—

"Why not capture it instead?"

Roar!

Before he could act, the Odogaron broke free from paralysis, letting out a thunderous roar.

Its powerful, whip-like body lashed out, instantly shaking off the monsters latched onto it.

"Again! Use paralyzing venom!"

The Great Girros opened its mouth, ready to repeat its attack.

But the Odogaron was furious now.

Tensing its muscular frame, it suddenly leapt high into the air, then lunged at the Great Girros with lightning speed.

"So fast!"

Before Su Yi could react, the red blur had already crashed down onto the Great Girros.

Slash!

The Odogaron's fangs sank deep into the Great Girros' flesh, tearing through muscle and sinew.

Still recovering from its previous injuries, the Great Girros let out an agonized howl as fresh blood splattered across the battlefield.

"Help it! Now!" Su Yi shouted.

At first glance, the Odogaron appeared to be the weaker side, being surrounded and attacked. However, if it went berserk and launched a ferocious assault on one of his companions, it definitely had a chance to kill it in a short time.

The Great Jagras and Kulu-Ya-Ku immediately rushed to assist, and in an instant, the four monsters were entangled in an intense brawl. The Odogaron, relying on its lightning-fast movements, weaved through its three opponents, its claws slashing wildly.

"This one's tough!" Su Yi furrowed his brows, quickly formulating a strategy for victory.

But the chaotic battle soon attracted big trouble.

"Awoooong!"

A high-pitched, nasal roar echoed from the sky as massive wings stirred the miasma, sending strong winds howling through the valley.

Su Yi looked up and cursed under his breath.

"Bazelgeuse!"

Boom!

A colossal wyvern descended with a thunderous crash, scattering bones everywhere.

"Great Jagras, Great Girros, grab the Legiana carcass and retreat!" Su Yi swiftly switched the ammo in his slinger and commanded.

The two monsters let out low growls and each grabbed one side of the Legiana's body, while Su Yi, mounted on Kulu-Ya-Ku, prepared to escape.

The Bazelgeuse immediately locked onto Su Yi and charged forward.

"That Bazelgeuse, meow! It looks like the same one from last time, meow! Look at that scar, meow!" Rucao exclaimed.

Su Yi turned to look and indeed, the Bazelgeuse's back, which was covered in mirror-like armored scales, bore a hideous, scorched slash wound.

Only one creature could have inflicted such an injury—Glavenus. Su Yi immediately recalled how that Bazelgeuse had gotten caught up in a battle between a Black Diablos and a Glavenus before.

This meant... this Bazelgeuse was most likely the same one!

"Damn it! Did it really have to follow me here?!" Su Yi quickly fired a flash pod.

Swoosh!

A brilliant flash erupted in front of the incoming Bazelgeuse, stunning it instantly. It stumbled mid-stride, squinting and shaking its head agitatedly.

Meanwhile, the Odogaron sniffed the air, then quickly grabbed a relatively intact carcass from the bone pile before swiftly fleeing the area.

"Roooar!"

From deep within the valley, another terrifying roar echoed, as if something else had been drawn to the commotion.

"Retreat!" Su Yi shouted, and the two monsters, still carrying the Legiana's carcass, bolted at full speed.

They ran for a long time, their breathing growing heavy. Eventually, exhausted, they came to a halt.

Looking around, Su Yi saw that they had arrived in a secluded, quiet mountain valley, with no signs of other monsters.

"Let's quickly carve up the Legiana for materials." Su Yi instructed. Since whole carcasses couldn't be stored in the inventory, they had to be dismantled into materials first.

"Great Jagras, help me break it down." Su Yi ordered.

Following his command, the Great Jagras began roughly processing the corpse.

Once the Legiana's body had been divided into parts, Su Yi took out his carving knife and, along with Rucao, began harvesting materials.

Although the Legiana's corpse was badly damaged, its teeth and claws were still intact.

Other parts, such as its hide, scales, wing membranes, and bones, could also be salvaged to some extent. While not enough to craft equipment for himself, it was more than sufficient to make a full set for Rucao.

"So this is an Ice Sac, huh?" Su Yi carefully lifted a frosty white organ from the Legiana's chest cavity.

Immediately, the cold liquid inside the Ice Sac began radiating an intense chill, sending an icy numbness through Su Yi's hands. The surrounding moisture quickly froze into frost.

"Whoa!" Su Yi hastily stored the Ice Sac in his inventory, then hugged a Larvesta for warmth until he recovered.

"We need to move out." He listened to the distant roars echoing from the Rotten Vale and quickly opened his map, navigating back toward their temporary camp.

Meanwhile, the Great Girros was still eyeing the remains of the Legiana, hoping to take a bite, prompting Su Yi to scold it for being hopelessly gluttonous.
