Chapter 2: Copying Cosmic Cube
---
Kai Vale's mind reeled when he heard the unexpected voice.
A system? He had a system after traveling through time? But what exactly was this system?
"System," Kai asked cautiously, "what's your purpose?"
"This system is called the Weapon Duplication System," the voice explained. "As the name suggests, the host can copy any weapon and obtain a perfect replica, complete with its original abilities."
Kai's eyebrows shot up. "Any weapon? No limits?"
"Correct," the system confirmed. "As long as it's classified as a weapon, the system can replicate it perfectly. However, the host must physically touch the weapon to trigger the duplication. Additionally, if the system isn't activated within the allotted time, it will vanish permanently."
Kai's pulse quickened. He had no idea how he'd ended up in the Marvel universe, but if this system was real, activating it was his top priority.
But that presented a problem—where could he find a weapon in the middle of a research lab?
Just as anxiety started to build, the system spoke again. "Host, there is a weapon three meters away from you."
Kai's head snapped up. He scanned the room carefully, trying to identify what the system had detected.
His sudden movement caught Professor Chris's attention.
"Kai, is something wrong?" the professor asked.
Kai forced a smile. "No, I'm fine."
He resumed scanning the room. No obvious weapons in sight—no guns, no blades. Just scientists, researchers, and lab equipment.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, Kai spotted it—the Cosmic Cube.
No way... Could that be what the system was calling a weapon?
"System," Kai whispered in his mind, "you don't mean the Cosmic Cube, do you?"
"Affirmative," the system confirmed. "The most powerful weapon currently detected is the Cosmic Cube."
Kai's heart sank. The Cosmic Cube wasn't just any weapon—it was under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s watchful eyes. Touching it seemed impossible without getting caught. But the system's countdown loomed over him, and if he didn't act soon, he'd lose his best shot at survival.
After a moment of thought, Kai devised a risky plan.
He decided to use his earlier headache as a distraction. Rubbing his temple and staggering slightly, he began walking toward Professor Chris, appearing weak and unsteady.
As he passed by the Cube's display platform, Kai feigned a dizzy spell and stumbled. Falling to the side, he reached out as if to steady himself—and in that split second, his hand brushed the Cosmic Cube.
The moment his fingers touched the Cube's surface, the system chimed:
"Ding! Congratulations to the host for successfully replicating the Cosmic Cube. The Weapon Duplication System is now active. You have earned 1 reputation point. A starter gift package has been sent to the system's storage. Please check."
Before Kai could fully register the message, startled guards rushed toward him.
"Hey!" one barked.
In his fall, Kai had accidentally knocked the Cube off its platform. The guards grabbed him, pinning him to the ground.
Professor Chris intervened immediately. "Let him go!" he scolded. "He's been feeling ill all morning—this was just an accident!"
The supervisor arrived moments later, scowling as he inspected the situation. After confirming Professor Chris's explanation, the man ordered Kai to leave the lab immediately.
Despite the professor's efforts to vouch for him, the supervisor refused to let Kai stay.
"Don't worry, Kai," Professor Chris said reassuringly. "I'll make sure you're included in the next project."
Kai forced a smile. "Thank you, Professor. It's a shame I had to miss out today."
Two security guards flanked Kai and escorted him to the exit. The heavy door slammed shut behind him with a resounding *thud*.
Kai glanced at the sky. It was still morning. He wasn't ready to head home just yet—not when he had something new to explore.
Finding a secluded area in the nearby suburbs, Kai reached into the system's storage space and pulled out the replicated Cosmic Cube. It looked identical to the one from the films—a glowing blue energy radiated faintly from within.
"Alright," Kai muttered to himself. "Let's see if this thing actually works."
Fixing his eyes on a small mound of dirt about ten meters away, Kai concentrated and imagined himself standing on the other side of it.
The Cube responded instantly. Blue energy flared, and a shimmering portal appeared in front of him. Before he could hesitate, the portal swallowed him whole.
