Chapter 17: Maintenance
---
In the afternoon, Kai Vale was busy experimenting in his room, trying to figure out how to use the magic wand.
He had tried everything — setting up makeshift rituals, chanting random phrases, and at one point, he was tempted to prick his finger for a blood test as if he were confirming some hidden lineage. He had waved the wand so many times that his arm was sore, yet the only result was that same flickering light from the tip.
Frustrated, Kai slumped down on his bed to rest, rubbing his aching arm.
"I'm too tired... Maybe I should just rest and try again later when my arm's feeling better."
As he thought this, he absentmindedly waved the wand.
To his surprise, a soft beam of light shot out, landing directly on his arm. Before Kai could react, a warm, tingling sensation spread through his muscles — and the soreness vanished.
Kai's eyes widened. "Wait... is that it?"
Excited, he realized the key wasn't in waving the wand like some wizard in a movie — it required focus. If he concentrated on the effect he wanted, the wand would respond accordingly.
"This isn't like the wands from those books," Kai muttered.
Unlike the Elder Wand from the 'Harry Potter' series, which was bound to its true master through combat, this wand seemed to respond to anyone who held it. That realization made it even more valuable — he could use it himself 'or' lend it to someone else.
With that settled, Kai recalled his experience with the Invisibility Cloak. Once worn, it completely concealed his body. Even if someone sensed his presence, they wouldn't be able to see him. It was a powerful tool for stealth.
But the Stone remained a mystery. No matter what spells or tricks he tried, it refused to react.
"I can't exactly grind it into powder and eat it... right?"
The absurd thought startled Kai, and he shook his head to push it away.
"Guess I'll figure it out later."
With his newfound treasures secured in his system space, Kai felt better prepared for whatever challenges came next.

*Fisk Building.*
Before the media or police even arrived at the scene, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had already been dispatched. They had been investigating Kai and Matt for some time, and news of the incident involving Kingpin reached them quickly.
The agents split into two teams — one secretly surveyed the top floor, gathering evidence, while the other combed through security footage. Unfortunately, the recordings had been wiped clean — just like the last time. Their tech experts confirmed that the method used was identical to that of Kai's friend, Ethan.
Nick Fury received the report soon after.
Reading through the file, Nick couldn't help but suspect Kai's involvement. The chaotic scene — bodyguards turning on each other, and Kingpin ending up dead — seemed almost impossible unless Kai possessed some sort of mind control ability.
Fury jotted down his thoughts in a file — a file dedicated specifically to Kai Vale.
It was clear Nick had been watching Kai closely for some time now, tracking his skills and influence. Sooner or later, he knew he'd need to approach Kai personally.

Unaware that S.H.I.E.L.D. was investigating him, Kai was still caught up in the thrill of his new artifacts. Over the next few days, he secretly practiced with the wand — using magic to clean the restaurant and wash dishes with a flick of his wrist.
"Man, being a magician is 'so' much easier," Kai sighed. "I barely have to lift a finger anymore."
That night, Kai sat at the front desk, watching the restaurant's quiet entrance. Business had slowed, and his mind wandered to how versatile the wand's magic might be.
"I wonder what else I can do with it..."
His thoughts were interrupted when he noticed a car parked across the street. It had been there for quite some time, and through the tinted windows, he could see someone inside.
Frowning, Kai grabbed his phone and texted Gear.
[Kai]: Can you check out that car outside? It's been sitting there for ages.
A few minutes later, Gear replied:
[Gear]: Looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Probably still tracking you.
Kai's mood darkened. 'They're still following me?'
Annoyed, he stood up, pushed the restaurant door open, and walked straight toward the car.
Inside the vehicle, the agents noticed Kai approaching and hurriedly tried to prepare. But before they could react, Kai knocked on the driver's side window.
After a brief pause, the window lowered. The driver, clearly an agent, forced a smile.
"Uh... hello, sir. We're with the maintenance company. Is there something wrong?"
Kai smirked. 'Still trying to play dumb?'
Originally, he'd planned to just scare them off — but now he had a better idea.
Without warning, Kai struck the driver's neck, knocking him out cold.
The agents in the backseat panicked and tried to escape, but Kai was faster. One by one, he knocked them unconscious with swift, precise blows.
Once the car was silent, Kai opened a portal — sending the agents and their vehicle straight to a remote corner of South Africa. According to Gear, that area had no electronic signals or communications.
"Good luck getting back."
Satisfied, Kai returned to the restaurant, locking the door behind him as he prepared to close up for the night.

Hours later, S.H.I.E.L.D. realized something was wrong when the surveillance team failed to check in.
Nick Fury personally reviewed the satellite feed, discovering their car abandoned in the middle of nowhere in South Africa.
Without wasting time, two planes were dispatched from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters to retrieve the missing agents and their vehicle.
