Chapter 18: Nick Fury Arrives

---

A car full of agents was knocked unconscious by Kai Vale and thrown into South Africa. Two hours later, the agents gradually woke up.

By the time they realized they were no longer in the United States, their communication equipment wasn't working, and they had no way to contact SHIELD headquarters. Panic started to set in.

"Where are we?"

"We won't be stuck here, will we?"

"None of our devices are working. No signal at all."

"So we went from the United States to... wherever this is... and we can't contact anyone."

The team captain took a deep breath, calming himself before speaking.

"That's enough. Stop panicking and listen."

The group quieted down, turning to hear what he had to say.

"If we've been sent somewhere without communication, it means the bureau knows we're missing. By tonight, they'll realize we're gone and use the car's satellite tracker to locate us. They'll send someone to get us. Until then, we need to stay calm, stay safe, and wait for extraction."

Hearing this, the agents relaxed a little, regaining their composure. They began scouting the area, setting up shifts for watch duty, and guarding the maintenance vehicle.

As night fell, they still hadn't seen anyone nearby. Two agents managed to catch a pair of antelopes, which they roasted for food.

Later that night, the team member on watch spotted two planes approaching from a distance. The searchlights flickered across the landscape, scanning the area. The agents quickly grabbed anything that could reflect light, waving them frantically.

The searchlight eventually locked onto them. The planes descended, landing on a clear patch of ground.

The cabin door opened, and a middle-aged man with slightly thinning hair stepped down.

He walked up to the agents, flashing his SHIELD ID.

"I'm Agent Coulson. Glad we found you. Let's get you home."

Relieved, the agents followed Coulson onto the plane. Coulson didn't forget about the maintenance vehicle either and ordered his team to load it onto the second plane.

Several hours later, they landed back at SHIELD headquarters.

During the flight, Coulson explained what had happened — Kai Vale had somehow teleported the entire group, along with their car, from the United States to South Africa in an instant. The agents were stunned by the power on display.

Once they landed, they made one thing clear — they no longer wanted to monitor Kai Vale. He was too dangerous.

Nick Fury, who was waiting for them on the tarmac, overheard this.

"I can arrange that," he said, "but you'll all need to go through routine debriefing first. After that, I'll assign you to new tasks."

The agents agreed.

Later, Coulson entered Fury's office with the debriefing reports.

"Sir, based on their statements and polygraph results, it's clear they were telling the truth."

"So," Fury said, "Kai Vale knocked them out, teleported them — and their car — halfway across the world, and made sure no one was harmed in the process?"

"That's right," Coulson confirmed.

Fury rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

"That means I need to raise his threat level. Only agents with Level 8 clearance can access his file from now on."

"Understood."

After Coulson left, Fury muttered to himself, "Looks like I'll have to go see him in person."

The next day, Kai Vale was busy at the restaurant.

"Peaceful days like this are the best," he muttered while cleaning. "Too bad things in Marvel are always about to get messy."

As he was finishing up, Gear sent him a message: there were more agents outside the restaurant. They were surrounding the place but hadn't taken any action yet.

Kai stopped what he was doing and sat down, waiting to see what SHIELD planned next.

The door swung open, and a one-eyed, bald man with an eye patch walked in.

Kai immediately recognized him.

"Nick Fury," he murmured.

He didn't speak further, watching Fury closely. Fury did the same, quietly observing Kai as he took a seat.

The restaurant was silent until Kai's grandfather called down from upstairs.

"Are you done cleaning yet?"

Kai finally spoke.

"If you're not here to eat, you should leave. We're closed, and I don't want trouble."

"What if I *am* here to eat?" Fury asked.

"Sorry. Kitchen's closed."

Fury leaned forward.

"Do you know how much trouble you're in?"

"Trouble?" Kai asked with a faint smile.

"For the bodies you've dropped and what you did to my agents yesterday," Fury said.

"Oh? Sounds serious."

"Very serious. But there's a way out of it," Fury continued.

"And that is?"

"Join SHIELD. If you work for me, I'll clean up your mess and keep my agents off your back. All you have to do is say yes."
