Invincible in the Shadows

"Behave good!" Debby said with a smile as she walked to Jin and Mark. She kissed him on the cheek before going out from the front day.

Jin smiled as he watched Debby walk out of the house. Jin turned to Mark and noticed that his eyes were shining with excitement. Mark could barely wait for training.

"Well, we should go before we are late," Jin said as he walked out. Mark followed him, and he suddenly gasped as he was grabbed on the arm and lifted into the air.

Boom!

Jin flew off while dragging Mark by his wrist. The air exploded as he broke the sound barrier from his speed. Mark screamed as he did not fly yet.

"Woooo! This is fun!" Mark looked at the rapidly receding city under him, and he could not help but shout. Mark was full of excitement. He can't believe he is flying!

"It's even better if you fly by yourself," Jin said with a smile as he flew past a bird. Jin suddenly grinned as he thought about a prank.

"Huh? Jin, what are you doing?" Mark suddenly looked up with worry as he felt Jin's hold on his wrist become loose. He did not receive words but a smirk as Jin let go of him.

"Arghhh!" Mark screamed in fear, his voice turning high-pitched as he stared at the rapidly enclosing ground. Just a few meters above the ground, Jin caught him.

Boom!

A shockwave was created as Mark was lifted back into the air by a laughing Jin. Mark sighed as he looked at his brother in anger and disappointment.

"YOU!... I will tell Mom!" Jin paused, and he looked down at Mark. He loosened his wrist, and Mark stiffened.

"I won't tell mom!" Jin smirked as he gripped his wrist better. The two flew through the air before reaching the school in a minute. Stopping inside an alley, Jin and Mark walked out of it like nothing happened.

"See you after school!" Jin said as he walked towards his locker. He saw William walking to Mark and frowned as he caught William's eyes.

'I don't have anything against him... But gay!' Jin did not have a problem with William. He was a good guy, but he looked at him in a gay way, and it made him uncomfortable.

"Hey, Jin! How is it going?" William asked as he finished greeting Mark. Jin turned to him with a neutral face before he replied.

"I am good. See you guys later. I have science class in 5 minutes." Jin said as he turned and walked away. He suddenly paused as he passed a woman with red hair, and he immediately noticed that it was Atom Eve.

Thud*

Jin was distracted for a fraction of a second and did not notice that he bumped into Eve as she turned from her locker. His chest did not even budge an inch while Eve tumbled back.

"AHhh!" Eve was surprised as she bumped into an immovable object. Her body is by no means weak. She is in the upper echelons in strength and speed.

Not being able to move when she bumped into Jin showed that he was not an ordinary human.

"Sorry, Jin. I did not see you." Eve apologised as he leaned down to pick her books up. Jin smiled before he helped her with it. The two knew each other for a couple of months.

Eve was known to the school since she had to move due to her power being revealed. So, Jin helps her around the school and is friends with Eve.

"Don't worry about it. How are you doing today?" Jin asked with a smile as he picked the last paper from the floor. Eve took it, and they turned to walk to their science class.

"Oh, you know. Just doing class work and getting better at my studies." Eve replied with a smile as she looked at Jin. She noticed that he was different from before. Jin was more confident. She liked it.

"That's good. Are you still up for that study session we agreed to?" Jin asked as he looked at Eve. She was shorter than him by a few inches, though not enough to make her look short.

"Yeah, of course. You know I would never miss that." Eve nodded her head as she heard that. Jin is her only real friend, so she has met with him frequently in the last few months.

She needs some relaxing time from her hero work. The two smile as they reach the class in comfortable silence. Once they enter, they go to their seat in the back and wait for the lesson to begin.

[Ding!]

[Quest issued!]

[Graduation is near. So graduate in the top 5 of your class!]

[Reward: Accelerated thinking, Eve will think higher of you!]

[Punishment: Disappointed Mom, no accelerated thinking!]

Jin looked at his Quest with confusion before he sighed. He was typically in the top 10 in grades, but the others were smarter than him. Jin looked at Eve and smirked.

She is the key to achieving this mission. She is the number one in school and is leagues above in grades.

"Hey, Eve. Can you help me improve my grades to at least top five?" Jin asked Eve in a quiet voice to not draw attention. Eve turned to Jin in surprise before nodding with a smile.

"Finally! The time you began to think about studying with me. You always say it is boring stuff." Jin scratched his head in embarrassment. He never liked studying before.

Now he does.

"So, after school? At your house?" Jin asked with a smirk. Eve nodded her head. Her parents already knew Jin since he came over every week.

Eve and Jin turned to the front, and they started listening and taking notes as the teacher began explaining some stuff related to molecular imbalance. Jin was confused and only understood some things.

[After lesson...]

"Man, I am glad that I have you," Jin said with exaggeration as he walked out of class, following Eve. Eve smirked as she looked back.

"What would you do without me~," Eve teased as they entered the cafeteria. Jin smirked as he looked at Eve. The two wanted food, and Jin was happy as they served Pizza that day.

[Meanwhile...]

Inside the Global Defence Agency. Cecil looked at the screen of Jin flying away from the water at a speed exceeding lightning. That was not what shocked him.

"He teleported from somewhere? Or did he turn invisible?" Cecil asked as he turned to a person with glasses. Donald looked at the screen before he replied.

"I think he teleported, sir. There was no heat signature of radio wave interference like a human body has," Donald replied as the worker in front of them zoomed in with an infrared filter.

"So he might even be stronger than Nolan? I will have to talk to the kid. He is invaluable to the world as a defender." Cecil said as he adjusted his ties. He still does not trust Nolan 100%.

But he isn't going to discard Jin as a protector of the world because he is Nolan's son. Plus, Jin grew up on Earth, not Viltrum.

Eve and Jin have been friends for some time now. What do you think about Eve's introduction? and how I incorporate her into the story?

I have seen comments about Jin being a goody, two-shoes hero in the world of Invincible, lol. This is invincible, not DC, where killing is not allowed.

Invincible is not even a show about good heroes trying to protect civilians. It's just aliens fighting for dominance over the planet. So don't expect Jin to be a Superman.

I am seeing a lot of Eve and Anissa in the comments. I will not announce the actual pairing until tomorrow. So, you guys still have time.
