Chapter 222: Chapter 222: The Path to Assimilation
Chapter 222: The Path to Assimilation
As Lin Langtian broke through the flames, the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame glimpsed the black-gold light and, for a moment, a flash of panic crossed its fierce gaze. The strange and holy power of the Sacred Clan shrouded the little bird with an unease it couldn't shake.
With the bird transfixed, Lin Langtian swept his hand outward, causing the black-gold light to spread and form a net. The net slowly extended towards the small Vermilion Bird, intending to trap it within. Alarmed, the bird opened its beak, releasing a powerful fire pillar, aiming to engulf the black-gold net in a blaze of fiery energy.
Yet, the black-gold net seemed impervious to the raging flames. Undeterred, it continued its slow descent toward the Vermilion Bird. Startled, the Vermilion Bird screeched in protest, flapping its fiery wings as it attempted to flee. But the net was relentless, swiftly catching up to it and encapsulating the bird within its confines.
Once trapped, the Vermilion Bird released a furious, defiant cry and began to thrash, desperate to escape. However, the black-gold net held firm, infused with the mystic power of Lin Langtian's Golden Spirit Wheel Mirror, making even the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame unable to break free.
Seeing his opponent's futile struggles, Lin Langtian raised an eyebrow. Stepping over the waves of fire, he approached the now-restrained Vermilion Bird.
The bird released a frustrated shriek, sending a crimson fire pillar toward Lin Langtian. He met it with a calm smile and, with a flick of his sleeve, countered with his own jet-black fire. The two flames collided, but in a brief, intense clash, the crimson flame was quickly consumed, while the black flame surged forward, striking the Vermilion Bird and forcing a pained cry from it.
"You're too weak in your current state," Lin Langtian observed, his tone light and taunting.
With the Vermilion Bird now confined, its power significantly diminished, the situation had clearly turned in Lin Langtian's favor. The bird's eyes glowed red with fury as it cried out, "Despicable human! Don't get too arrogant!"
In a fit of rage, the surrounding scarlet flames erupted, splitting into numerous smaller firebirds. They shrieked and soared toward Lin Langtian, their fury turning the entire area into a sea of exploding flames.
After unleashing such a powerful attack, the already-weakened Vermilion Bird appeared breathless, its fiery eyes staring into the blazing sea, hoping for victory. But, before it could relax, it was horrified to see a shadowy figure emerge unscathed from the flames, surrounded by fire as if he were some fire deity.
Standing amidst the fire, Lin Langtian smiled and lifted his hand. A ghostly black flame rose from his palm—Nine Nether Flame. It blazed like a dark sun, radiating such intensity that the surrounding crimson flames began to pull back in reverence, like subjects before a king.
Within seconds, the sea of flames had parted, creating a clear path around Lin Langtian. Not a single ember dared approach within thirty feet of him.
Now, with the flames subdued, only Lin Langtian and the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame remained face-to-face. Seeing its power falter before the Nine Nether Flame, true fear entered the bird's gaze.
"It seems you've lost," Lin Langtian said, smiling faintly.
Nine Nether Flame, a divine fire of the mythical beasts, was of a higher rank than the Vermilion Bird's flame. If not for its confinement, the Vermilion Bird might have rallied its fire under its control. Yet, bound and contained, the flames, leaderless, had no choice but to yield to the Nine Nether Flame.
Resigned, the Vermilion Bird ceased its struggles. Under the tightening black-gold net, it began to shrink until it was reduced to a crimson fire that was pulled straight into Lin Langtian's dantian, or spiritual core.
At last, Lin Langtian relaxed and let out a deep breath, triumphant.
"Shatter," he commanded, surveying the fiery spirit realm around him.
Instantly, the surrounding space cracked and dissolved into countless fragments. The spirit realm collapsed, pulling Lin Langtian's consciousness back to reality and his physical body hovering above the fire sea.
In that moment, the Vermilion Bird's massive, fiery form stood still in front of him before shrinking once more into a crimson spark, which then flew directly into Lin Langtian's body.
Seeing this, Que Tian's face flickered with astonishment. "This kid… actually tamed the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame…"
As Que Tian marveled, Lin Langtian opened his eyes. For a brief moment, twin flames—one black, one red—flickered within his pupils, giving him an intense and eerie gaze. Without delay, he checked within, locating the tiny crimson bird that now rested in his dantian, its eyes dull and vacant, its spirit utterly subdued.
Lin Langtian felt a slight pang of pity, yet he knew the price of taming such a flame would be the erasure of its sentience. Only power holds permanence, after all. Smiling with satisfaction, he allowed the Vermilion Bird's flame to spread through his meridians.
Compared to his Nine Nether Flame, which had yet to regain its peak strength, this newly tamed flame was an immensely powerful ally.
"Don't worry," he murmured softly, "under my command, the name of the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame will never be tarnished."
With that, he focused inward, guiding the essence of the Vermilion Bird's flame through his limbs. As its core flame merged with his being, waves of scorching heat radiated outward, causing red flames to pour from every pore of his skin.
Having secured the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame, Lin Langtian now needed to take the next step—complete its full assimilation!
