Chapter 221: The Path to Taming

As Lin Langtian came face to face with the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame, he once again felt the full impact of its incredible presence. Standing before the massive creature, he realized that he was probably no bigger than one of the flaming feathers on its body. Although Que Tian's command had tempered some of the flame beast's hostility, the creature's piercing gaze was chilling. Taking a deep breath, Lin Langtian steadied himself.

"Lin Langtian, place your hand on the flame feather at the center of the Vermilion Bird's forehead. That spot isn't covered by flames. Then, try channeling your spirit energy into it. If you're lucky, you might be able to tame it," Que Tian's voice sounded from behind him.

Lin Langtian smiled wryly. Taming this monstrous flame would be no simple task. Despite his doubts, he stepped forward and found the enormous feather, which was indeed flame-free. Its deep red hue radiated an intense heat, but it felt cool to the touch.

He closed his eyes and cautiously extended his spirit energy through his hand and into the feather. The moment his spirit energy breached the feather, Que Tian's eyes focused sharply on him, intrigued to see whether this mysterious young man would manage to tame a flame that had been dormant for eons.

Boom!

As his spirit energy entered the feather, he suddenly felt as if he'd broken through an invisible barrier and found himself in a vast, fiery expanse. At the center of the fiery void was a miniature version of the Vermilion Bird, slumbering in the flames. Lin Langtian recognized it immediately as the flame's core essence.

"Such power…" he murmured, his heart pounding. He knew this flame was on par with some of the most fearsome flames in existence. If he could tame it, his strength would rise to an unimaginable level.

Taking a deep breath, he gently wrapped his spirit energy around the tiny Vermilion Bird, radiating kindness and goodwill, attempting to communicate his intentions. Despite the innocence of this approach, Lin Langtian figured he had to try.

After several moments, he realized that the little bird seemed unaffected by his attempt at friendly communication.

"So much for that approach…" he thought, beginning to withdraw his spirit energy when, suddenly, the little bird's eyes snapped open.

The bird's piercing red gaze, burning with icy intensity, was locked onto Lin Langtian's spirit presence. His hairs stood on end as he realized the Vermilion Bird Flame's core had fully awakened.

"Weak human, do you think you're worthy of taming me?" it said, its voice cold and mocking.

Startled, Lin Langtian realized this tiny Vermilion Bird could not only speak but was mocking him. Still, he gleaned some crucial information from their exchange. Although Que Tian had acknowledged him, the flame had not. To tame it, Lin Langtian would need to prove his strength.

"Sigh, of course, it wouldn't be that easy…" Lin Langtian muttered. Summoning a bold expression, he smiled and addressed the Vermilion Bird, "Listen, I'm here to help you break free from this fiery prison and grant you freedom. Besides, Que Tian, your master, has already approved of me. Why not follow me? Together, we could restore your former glory."

Even he couldn't help feeling the pretense in his words.

"Silence!" The little Vermilion Bird's mocking glint intensified. "Que Tian may be my master, but I am my own being. You, weak human, are beneath my notice!"

With a final scornful glare, the Vermilion Bird's Burning Heaven Flame abruptly summoned a wave of crimson flames that surged toward Lin Langtian's spirit energy.

Seeing the immediate danger, Lin Langtian knew he was no match for this powerful flame, and he quickly tried to withdraw his spirit energy. Yet, the flames moved faster than he could retreat, closing in on him and wrapping around his energy.

Whoosh!

Just as the flames threatened to incinerate his spirit energy completely, a sudden change occurred. A radiant black-gold light erupted from within him, shrouding his spirit energy and breaking through the flames.

"It's the Golden Spirit Wheel Mirror!" Lin Langtian realized, a hint of relief showing in his expression as the mirror's protective light shielded his spirit from the encroaching flames. This mysterious relic was a powerful asset, and with its help, the Vermilion Bird's flames were held at bay.

Surprised by his resilience, the little bird's ferocity seemed to waver. Lin Langtian smirked and said, "Little Vermilion Bird, it looks like the tables have turned."
