Chapter 113: Quelling the Rebellion

The Divine Tree wasn't something that could simply be toppled and forgotten. Even after Kaguya Ōtsutsuki was sealed away and until Asura inherited the leadership of the Shinobi Order, remnants of the Divine Tree's roots continued to absorb energy from the earth across the world. The Sage of Six Paths tasked Asura and Indra with eliminating these residual roots. The Divine Tree was so vast that its roots spread across the entire world. Even after the era of the Shinobi Order and the Warring States Period, it wasn't surprising that some remnants still existed.

Initially, Ino had thought that the Hero's Water was inferior to Choji's Chili Pills. However, after seeing this massive tree root, she began to reconsider.

The water might still be lacking, but the value of this tree root was immense.

Ino wasn't planning to seize it by force. Instead, she intended to study it herself when the time was right and her knowledge was sufficient.

The village appeared somewhat dilapidated. Some houses had holes in their walls, and bloodstains could be seen on the ground. No matter how lax the villagers were, they wouldn't ignore such signs. The only explanation was that the village had been attacked by traitors.

Due to their rapid journey, the sounds of battle could still be heard deep within the village.

In an era where overpowered abilities weren't rampant and everyone relied on hand seals, gathering intelligence on the enemy was the most crucial part of any battle bar none.

They had information on the enemy, but the enemy knew nothing about them. They were prepared; the enemy wasn't. This alone gave them a 50% advantage.

Led by Shibuki, the three of them arrived at the battlefield.

The civilians of Takigakure had gathered inside a large three-story building, with a few ninja desperately defending the entrance against the enemy.

Ino used her sensory abilities to scan the area. There were about two hundred civilians here, mostly elderly and children. Large groups of civilians were also located in the northeast and southeast parts of the village.

Their timing for the rescue couldn't have been better.

At that moment, a ninja spotted Shibuki and immediately shouted, "Shibuki, you idiot! Why did you come back? Don't worry about us! Run! Go find Fū to save us!"

The other injured ninja also began yelling, urging Shibuki to flee.

Ino and Kurenai, who didn't look particularly intimidating, were completely ignored.

"Kurenai-sensei, I have a new jutsu I'd like to test out later," Ino said.

Kurenai had heard a lot about Ino from Asuma and knew her ninjutsu skills were exceptional. After a brief moment of consideration, she agreed. "Alright, give it a try. If it doesn't work, just call for me."

With a jonin backing her up, Ino felt reassured.

The only one who wasn't reassured was Shibuki.

Kurenai cast a genjutsu, causing her to vanish from sight.

"Hahaha Shibuki, my dear student, you've finally returned!" A man with spiky hair and a yellow cloth wrapped around his forehead slowly stepped forward. Behind him were over a dozen ninja, their forehead protectors indicating they were from Amegakure.

Shibuki clenched and unclenched his fists three times. "Suien! Takigakure has never wronged you. Why would you do something so despicable?"

He pointed at the villagers around them. "Betraying the village, betraying the comrades who trusted you, bringing Amegakure ninja into the village don't you feel any guilt at all?"

Suien sneered coldly. "Comrades? Your father's pretty words were nothing but lies. In this world, only power is eternal! Hand over the Hero's Water, and I'll leave immediately. How about it?"

Shibuki glanced at Ino, signaling that it was her turn to act and not just stand there.

"Do you want him alive?" Ino asked in a low voice, pointing at Suien in the distance.

Shibuki was stunned. Are Konoha genin this bold nowadays? Suien is a jonin from our village! And you're asking if we need to keep him alive?

After a moment of thought, he gritted his teeth. "No need to hold back. Kill him."

Ino then pointed at the ninja wearing Amegakure forehead protectors. "What about those guys?"

Shibuki had no sympathy for the invaders. "Kill them all!"

Suien and the Amegakure ninja finally noticed Ino. They were momentarily stunned, then burst into laughter.

"Hahaha Shibuki, you're smarter than I thought. You actually went to Konoha for help? But, hahaha, you're really killing me!"

Suien, who had arrived a bit later and hadn't seen Kurenai, sneered viciously. "You could've at least hired a chunin! Instead, you brought a child? Is this a genin from Konoha?!"

The Amegakure ninja also laughed mockingly. The Takigakure ninja and villagers, however, didn't laugh. They had seen Kurenai earlier and assumed the Konoha ninja was using the young genin as bait while hiding in ambush.

Amid their laughter, a faint sound of air being pierced could be heard. The "whooshing" sound was still distant, but the high-pressure water arrow was already upon them.

"Water Release: Water Severing Wave!"

Suien was the first to be hit. The Takigakure jonin didn't see the water arrow coming and hadn't anticipated this kind of attack. Relying on instincts honed over years of training, he rolled to the left just before the Water Severing Wave struck.

His life-saving instincts kicked in just in time, as Ino's Water Severing Wave sliced toward his right side.

The condensed water chakra, propelled by high pressure, was as sharp as a finely honed blade.

A tall ninja wearing an Amegakure forehead protector was bisected at the waist. The smile was still on his face as his upper body slowly tilted backward, while his lower half remained standing upright.

The Water Severing Wave was incredibly fast, like a silver thread. With just a slight tilt of her head, Ino sent the silver thread through seven ninja in an instant some at the neck, others at the waist. In a flash, seven bodies fell into pools of blood.

The scent of blood and the sight of the seven dismembered bodies caused Shibuki to stumble and fall in shock. The Takigakure villagers and ninja, as well as the Amegakure ninja, weren't as panicked, but several of them who had initially dismissed the Konoha genin as weak were now horrified. Half of their forces had been wiped out in an instant.

Suien, being a seasoned jonin, didn't scream in rage. Instead, he hid behind a tree with a grim expression, gripping a kunai as he pondered his next move.

While he reacted quickly, the other ninja weren't as composed. These Amegakure ninja had fled from Pain's forces and were already terrified out of their wits. They were practically strays with no home to return to.

Faced with a jutsu they couldn't comprehend, they immediately thought of the "gods" from their own village.

These guys might not be good at fighting, but they had some skill in running away.

As they scattered in all directions, Ino's Water Severing Wave couldn't easily chase them down.
