The Sharpest Blade (My Vampire System Fan-Fic)

Chapter 61: The Machinations Of A Meddlesome Deity

In the tranquil expanse of Bliss's personal celestial realm—a pocket of serene solitude swirling with delicate white light—Sam stood quietly, his expression pulled taut by hurt, arms folded defensively as he absorbed the truth she had laid bare.

"You could have told me, Bliss," he finally murmured, his voice strained with a mix of disappointment and wounded pride. "After everything we've been through, you kept me in the dark."

Bliss stepped closer, her celestial glow softened in apology, eyes gentle but resolute. "Sam, I couldn't risk Mundus discovering my hand in any of it. It had to unfold exactly as it did—he needed to believe the idea was his own. I couldn't risk it, Sam. You know how dubious the celestials can be? I couldn't risk Mundus finding out. He never would have given Sil his power back."

"I just can't believe you kept something like this from me." He had a pained look on his face. His eyes never lied. And right now when she looked into them she saw pain. He was hurt.

He shook his head slowly, sighing as he looked away, unable to mask the hurt she'd etched upon his face. "I get it," he said quietly. "But it doesn't hurt any less. Secrets like this—they leave marks."

She reached out softly, fingertips grazing the edge of his jaw, drawing his reluctant gaze back to her. "I'm sorry. Truly. I wish there had been another way. But there wasn't."

He met her gaze, expression tightening earnestly. "Bliss, listen. Whatever else happens, no matter how much guilt weighs on you, promise me you will never tell Sil that you're the one who tipped off Calyx. If he learns that—it won't matter what Mundus does or how powerful you are—no one will be able to save you."

Her eyes darkened with acknowledgment. "I know," she whispered solemnly. "Trust me, Sam, I won't."

He exhaled softly, his expression gradually softening as he reached out, brushing an errant strand of her hair gently behind her ear. His hand lingered tenderly against her cheek before slipping down, cupping her chin lightly. Unable to resist any longer, he tilted her face upwards, pressing his lips fervently to hers, channeling all the worry, loneliness, and longing that had settled in his heart.

Pulling back slightly, his forehead resting softly against hers, he whispered, "I missed you. You can't just disappear without a trace—do you have any idea how worried I was?"

She smiled faintly, eyes bright and gentle. "Sam, you should know by now you don't have to worry about me."

Without another word, her form began to glow brighter, a comforting yet heartbreaking brilliance enveloping her body. In the next heartbeat, she vanished into a sudden burst of pure white light, slipping away from his embrace as swiftly as she had entered it.

Sam stood alone, arms still half-raised, now achingly empty. He exhaled heavily, the ache of separation settling deep in his chest. Dejection rippled through him, sharp and bitter, as a somber thought settled within his heart—a timeless lesson learned too late.

Mortals who dared love gods were always destined for sorrow.

Bliss, who had remained silent these past few weeks- since the incident involving the Blade family- found herself in a vacant corner of an area of the celestial realm that tended to be less busy than other areas, on her own. She had sought out a quiet corner of the vibrant void that was the white space. Seeking solitude, away from prying eyes and nosy individuals, but more importantly-- a place that no human could even enter.

Still watching the Blades closely though, she remained ever present in the background. When things had calmed down a bit, and she felt enough time had passed Bliss planned to approach them cautiously. There were still things she needed to say and a conversation that needed to be had.

With time ticking on as it tended to do though, it was only a matter of weeks before the summer would come to an end, and then Vorden would be off, back to the new military academy. Leaving a meeting between the Blade brothers, all together at the same time, nearly impossible. At least for a while. This wasn't a completely problematic issue, however Bliss did grimace at the idea of repeating herself, let alone having to hunt down multiple Blades being tiresome. That in addition to the revelations about to come tonight, which would be a distraction for some time, things needed to be discussed soon. Bliss had planned to reveal her workings before then. Which meant that she had until the end of summer to meet with the Blades.

At least, as far as she see. While Bliss usually had very good results when prying into the future, the presence of a Talon had always seemed to throw a wrench into her divinations. Luckily for them all, the nearest Talon was still safely tucked away in his eternal slumber. And as far as she had been able to see, he had no reason to be woken up just yet. Quinn could finally enjoy a moment of peace and rest. There were plenty of important preparations that needed to be done out here, in the meantime, to keep them all busy. To keep the world and humanity safe. Bliss was on a mission to save lives.
