Su Yi, The Pokemon(?) Master (Pokemon X Monster Hunter Fanfic)

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: The Lost Champion, Armor Island, and the Dojo

Looking at the defeated Scolipede lying on the ground, Su Yi hesitated—should he capture it?

The main issue was that he wasn't particularly interested in Scolipede, and his Poké Balls were quite precious at the moment.

"You're not going to capture it?" Leon walked over and asked.

"I didn't fight it to capture it. It was because of Chansey," Su Yi explained the reason behind the battle.

"You defeated the troublesome Scolipede to ensure Chansey could travel in peace?" Leon smiled knowingly.

"I really don't want to capture it. If I do, I'll have to take responsibility for it," Su Yi said, but he still took out a precious Poké Ball.

"Well, I might as well capture it, so it won't continue causing trouble," he sighed and threw the Poké Ball, successfully catching Scolipede.

At that moment, the Pokémon that had been bullied by Scolipede cheered joyfully upon seeing it captured.

The Pokémon eagerly gathered around Su Yi and Kulu-Ya-Ku.

"Quaa? Waa?" Kulu-Ya-Ku suddenly found itself surrounded by a group of small Pokémon, momentarily unsure of what to do. A Pichu even climbed onto Kulu-Ya-Ku's back, happily interacting with it.

"They're so enthusiastic," Su Yi was a bit overwhelmed by the adorable Pokémon surrounding him.

"It looks like they're really grateful to you," Leon smiled at the scene.

Seeing how friendly the Pokémon were, Su Yi relaxed and started gently petting these real and lovable creatures.

"So this is what Pikachu's cheeks feel like… soft—ah! And a little tingly. Sorry!" Su Yi curiously touched a Pikachu's cheek, and in an instant, two red spots on its face sparked with electricity. Startled, he quickly withdrew his hand and apologized, but Pikachu didn't mind at all. It just smiled and let him pat its head instead.

Seeing Su Yi having fun with Pikachu, the other Pokémon joined in, playing with him as well.

"Oh, it's a Goomy! It's so slimy and slippery, haha!" Su Yi laughed as he lifted a Goomy off his head.

Meanwhile, Kulu-Ya-Ku was happily running around with a group of Pokémon on its back. The ones riding along squealed with excitement.

"This is what it means to bond with Pokémon. Getting lost this time was truly worth it—I saw Pokémon I'd never seen before, watched an incredible Dynamax battle, and witnessed the warm interactions between people and Pokémon. This is what I want to protect," Leon murmured, feeling like his recent exhaustion had faded away.

"Rawr!" Charizard responded.

"Chansey!" Chansey walked forward, accompanied by a few Pokémon carrying some berries. They handed them to Su Yi.

"Chansey says that this berry grove was originally cared for by these Pokémon. If they lost it, they wouldn't have a source of food, so they're really grateful to you, meow," Rucao translated.

Even though the berries were their only source of food, the Pokémon still chose to share them to express their gratitude.

Su Yi only picked out four Oran Berries and tossed them to Rucao, Kulu-Ya-Ku, and Leon.

"These are enough," he returned the remaining berries and smiled as he petted the Pokémon who had offered them.

"Meow!" Rucao quickly ate the berries in two bites.

Kulu-Ya-Ku carefully savored its berry—it was its victory reward.

"A gift from the Pokémon, huh?" Leon examined the Oran Berry before taking a bite.

"It's really sweet," Su Yi said, enjoying the taste and feeling completely satisfied.

"Let's formally introduce ourselves. I'm Su Yi, a Hunter from the Fifth New Continent Expedition Team," he said with a smile.

Su Yi and Rucao sat on Kulu-Ya-Ku's back as it gracefully ran across a wetland prairie. A few Drednaw, half-submerged in water, warily poked their heads out, but after seeing Su Yi's group walk past, they relaxed and sank back into the water.

In the sky, Charizard flew ahead, carrying Leon and leading the way.

Before long, the wetlands turned into a lush, green field.

Seeing the beautiful scenery, Su Yi took a deep breath and then let out a loud cheer.

A few Fletchinder took off into the sky, while some Greedent scurried up the trees in surprise.

Although Leon had a terrible sense of direction, his partner Charizard didn't. Not far ahead in the vast field, a massive dojo came into view.

"Armor Island—the dojo of Master Mustard."

During his conversations with Leon, Su Yi finally confirmed his location.

The Isle of Armor, located in the Galar region, was a secluded island purchased by Master Mustard, a former champion and Leon's mentor.

"I didn't expect to end up here," Su Yi muttered as he and Rucao dismounted from Kulu-Ya-Ku and returned it to its Poké Ball.

"This is my master's dojo. Pretty impressive, right?" Leon looked at the front entrance, a nostalgic expression on his face.

"It certainly is," Su Yi replied. If someone could buy an entire island, of course, their dojo would be grand.

Besides, this island was anything but ordinary—it had fields, wetlands, forests, caves, deserts, plains, beaches, and even a small archipelago.

A single island with such diverse landscapes—what kind of mystical land was this?

"Let's go inside. I'm sure my master will be interested in you. And you should definitely try my mentor's wife, Honey's cooking," Leon said expectantly as he pushed the door open.

"Master, I'm here to see you!"

"Ah, Little Dandy, you finally decided to visit this old man," an elderly man in dojo attire greeted Leon with a warm smile.

"Sorry, I've just been too busy," Leon scratched his head with an apologetic smile.

Mustard chuckled, "Being busy is good for young people, but taking care of your health is important too."

"By the way, is this your friend? It's rare to see you bringing someone here," Mustard looked at Su Yi, whose outfit—a leather hunter's set—seemed quite unique.

Meanwhile, Su Yi was also observing the former champion. Though Mustard appeared elderly and slightly hunched, his demeanor was full of energy. His long white eyebrows, which extended down to his cheeks, gave him a kind and wise appearance.

But in Pokémon Sword and Shield, when he got serious in battle, he would remove his outerwear, revealing his training attire, and strike a martial arts pose—truly a testament to his vigor despite his age.

"Well, it's a long story. Speaking of which, where's Honey?" Leon asked.

"Haha, she's been preparing food for a while now. Let's eat while we talk," Mustard said.

They walked through the spacious hall and turned into a dining room, where a mature woman, carefully made up, was setting dishes on the table.

"Leon's here—oh? A guest?" Mustard's wife, Honey, said in surprise.

Su Yi politely greeted her, "Sorry for the intrusion."

Honey smiled, "It's no problem. Meals are always livelier with more people."

"Where's Hyde?" Leon asked, noticing that Honey's son was nowhere to be seen.

"He already ate and is resting in his room. You're quite late, our lost champion," Honey teased.

"Ah, my bad!" Leon realized that Mustard and Honey had waited for him, despite him getting lost and arriving late.

"This young man—is he your friend, Leon? You rarely bring people to the dojo," Honey asked curiously.

Su Yi scratched his head. "Well, I just met Leon not long ago. As for how I got here… uh, I got lost."

"Lost?" Mustard and Honey exchanged looks between Leon and Su Yi, both looking surprised.
