Su Yi, The Pokemon(?) Master (Pokemon X Monster Hunter Fanfic)

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: A Warm Welcome from the New World

Huff... Huff...

Breathing heavily, his heart pounding as if it would leap out of his chest.

ROAR!

A furious roar erupted from behind, shaking his eardrums and filling him with terror.

Su Yi ran for his life through the dense forest, his modern clothing already torn to shreds by the branches that lashed against him. Some branches struck his skin, leaving burning marks, but he had no time to care.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Heavy footsteps pounded like drumbeats, shaking his soul. Behind him, a massive tyrannosaur barreled through the trees, charging straight toward him with overwhelming momentum.

"I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die!" Su Yi screamed internally, weaving through the thick forest in a desperate attempt to shake off the monster.

ROAR!

The creature behind him—its pinkish skin contrasted by the black fur along its back—grew increasingly agitated by the chase. With a mighty bellow, it unfurled two sail-like membranes near the base of its tail and flared open its nasal crest, its massive nostrils sniffing the air, locking onto Su Yi's scent.

"This is an Anjanath! But why the hell did I wake up in the New World?!"

With just a glance at the monstrous predator from the game he had played countless times, Su Yi confirmed his worst fear.

This wasn't Jurassic Park.

He had somehow ended up in the world of Monster Hunter: World, specifically in the untamed land known as the New World.

A land where monsters reigned, and humans survived only through skill, strategy, and sheer determination.

However, Su Yi was not one of the legendary Hunters wielding massive weapons against terrifying creatures. He was just an ordinary person from the 21st century, and right now, he was nothing more than prey—albeit one that could run faster than a herbivore.

The Anjanath, now fully engaged in the hunt, let out another roar and took a step back, gathering strength.

Then, with a powerful stomp, it leaped forward, soaring through the air toward Su Yi.

Every instinct honed by hours of gameplay screamed at him.

WHOOSH!

THUD!

The massive predator landed with a quake, the impact sending tremors through the ground. The force threw Su Yi off balance, making him stumble and crash to the forest floor.

As he looked up, his heart turned to ice.

Rows of razor-sharp teeth.

The foul stench of its breath.

The Anjanath loomed over him, maw wide open.

"Is this how I die? Without even knowing why I'm here?"

Just then—

"Someone's in danger, meow!"

A nimble figure dashed past the Anjanath. With precise timing, it hurled something putrid directly into the monster's open jaws.

ROAR!

The Anjanath recoiled, gagging as the disgusting stench assaulted its senses.

"Run, meow!"

A small, black-and-white feline—resembling a cow-patterned cat—turned to Su Yi and gestured for him to follow.

"I'm saved!"

His fear-frozen limbs came back to life, and he scrambled to his feet. Ignoring his burning lungs and trembling legs, he followed the nimble creature into the dense underbrush.

After what felt like an eternity, they finally stopped running.

Su Yi, panting heavily, collapsed onto the ground. His entire body ached, and his lungs felt like they were on fire.

"I... I don't hear it anymore. We should be safe, right?" he gasped.

Standing upright, the small cat adjusted the leather goggles on its head.

"For now, meow," it replied.

Only now did Su Yi have a moment to process what had just happened. He turned to the cat—no, the Felyne, a species of intelligent feline-like creatures from Monster Hunter: World.

"Thank you so much, little cat," he said sincerely.

This creature, known as an Ailuro, was a beast race known for their high intelligence. Hunters valued them as invaluable companions—loyal partners who aided in battle, set traps, healed injuries, and gathered materials.

In his countless hours playing Monster Hunter, Su Yi had been saved by Felynes more times than he could count. Now, one had saved him in real life.

"How can a creature be this adorable?" he thought.

A true Aibo.

The fake Aibo (the Handler): A monster-magnet, baby Deviljho.

The real Aibo (Felyne companion): Tanky, resourceful, capable of taking direct hits from monsters.

"No need to thank me, meow! My name's Rucao! But tell me, meow, you don't seem like a Hunter. Why were you alone in the Ancient Forest, meow?"

"I'm Su Yi... And honestly, I have no idea how I got here."

Before waking up in this world, he had been nothing more than a regular office worker. Every day was a monotonous cycle of exhausting work, with his only solace being video games—Monster Hunter, Pokémon, and the like.

Last thing he remembered, he had just finished a grueling shift and wanted to relax with his Nintendo Switch. He had planned to rest his eyes while waiting for the game to load.

Then—darkness.

And now, here he was.

"That's strange, meow. Are you from Astera? Which fleet did you come with? You seem young... Were you born here, meow?" Rucao asked, tilting his head.

"You can just think of me as someone stranded," Su Yi sighed.

"Wait, are you from the Old World, meow?!"

Rucao's curious gaze drifted to Su Yi's waist, where a book was strapped to his belt.

"Meow?! That book! It has the Hunter's Guild emblem, meow!"

"A book?"

Su Yi looked down and, sure enough, there was an ancient-looking tome secured at his hip. It was thick, bound in worn leather, and strangely weightless—he hadn't even noticed it during his frantic escape.

"Wait... Did I buy some collector's edition merch? I don't remember owning this."

Unfastening it, he carefully held it in his hands. The cover bore a distinct Azure Star emblem, the mark of the Fifth Fleet, along with the White Wind insignia—a banner of the hunters destined to shape the fate of the New World.

"Huh? This emblem... It's not from the First through Fourth Fleets, meow... Could it be? Are you from the rumored Fifth Fleet, meow?!"

Su Yi's eyes narrowed.

"Wait, so right now... Astera only has the first four fleets?"

"Of course, meow! But there are rumors that the Guild is preparing to send a Fifth Fleet to fully investigate the Elder Crossing, meow!"

Su Yi's mind raced.

So I've arrived just before the game's main story begins?

If the Fifth Fleet was still just a rumor, then it wouldn't be long before the legendary Azure Star Hunters arrived—bringing with them the great Elder Dragon Zorah Magdaros and the events that would shake the New World to its core.

The Guild had spent over forty years investigating this land, and soon, the truth behind the Elder Crossing would finally be revealed.

But it wouldn't end there.

Beyond that, even greater mysteries and dangers awaited.

A story about courage, discovery, and the relentless pursuit of the unknown.

A story where Hunters followed the Star's Guidance to forge a new future.

"Could I be part of the White Wind?"

Looking at the emblem on the book, Su Yi felt something stir deep within him.

A fire that had long been extinguished by the grind of modern life.

He was not at the end of a story—he was at the beginning of one.

Perhaps... he, too, could become part of this legend.

With renewed resolve, Su Yi flipped open the ancient tome.

Faint golden light shimmered across its pages.

The interface displayed several options: [Quests], [Map], [Companions], [Ecological Report], and [Items]. However, at the moment, only the Quests, Items, and Companions tabs were active. The others were grayed out, unusable. There was also some blank space at the bottom, as if more options would be added later.

"Is this my golden finger? This is way too minimalist… but I guess that's fine. Still, there's no guidance at all." Su Yi suddenly felt excited. If things went as expected, this would be his key to survival.

"Companions? Isn't this just like Monster Hunter Stories?"

Seeing this option, Su Yi tapped on it. The book-like interface flipped a page, revealing... nothing. The screen was completely blank.

"As expected. What about quests?"

Backing out of the Companions tab, he navigated to Quests. The book flipped again, and a single mission appeared on the page.

[The Beginning of the Journey: Obtain your first companion.

Time Remaining: 2 days, 1 hour, 30 minutes (After completion, you may choose to return immediately or continue exploring).

Quest Support: 5 Capture Balls.

Quest Reward: 5 Capture Balls, Hunter's Basics.]

"Capture Balls? When did Monster Hunter ever have these?"

Su Yi opened the Items tab. Sure enough, the only item listed was a red-and-white ball, with a small "5" indicating its quantity.

His sense of déjà vu intensified. Clicking on the Capture Ball, a ping pong ball-sized sphere materialized in his palm. In the center was a small raised button.

"Uh... this..."

Su Yi pressed the button. With a soft pop, the sphere expanded to fit neatly in his hand.

"This is just a Poké Ball!"

Turning it over in his palm, he inspected it carefully.

"So what now? I capture monsters, train them as companions, and become a Pokémon Master?"

After all, Pokémon Legends: Arceus had been compared to Monster Hunter, and Monster Hunter Stories had battle mechanics that felt similar to Pokémon.

"Your next Pokémon game doesn't have to be a Pokémon game."

"Your next Monster Hunter doesn't have to be a Monster Hunter game."

"Genius."

Curious, he checked the item description.

[Capture Ball: A ball that has a certain chance of capturing monsters. Best used when the target is weakened.]

"…"

Speechless, Su Yi stared at the screen. This was the most classic red-and-white Poké Ball. Could this really capture the ferocious monsters of Monster Hunter?

"You've been staring at that blank book for a while, meow. Did you forget something, meow?"

A nearby feline voice broke his train of thought.

Su Yi looked at the talking Palico in surprise. "You can't see the text on this book?"

The Palico's eyes widened in confusion. "Should I be able to see something, meow?"

"...Never mind, I was just thinking out loud."

It seemed like others could see the book itself, but not the details inside.

"But where do I go to get my first companion?"

Su Yi scratched his head. In the game, he could explore the Ancient Forest as if it were his backyard. But now that it was reality, navigation was much harder. With no artificial boundaries like in the game, the forest was vast and directionless.

"I wonder if environmental creatures count?"

He scanned his surroundings. The sun was beginning to set, and the small herbivores like Aptonoth and Jagras were nowhere to be seen.

In the game, the creatures in each region were categorized into three types:

Large Monsters – The main targets of hunts, varying in strength and ecology.

Small Monsters – Mostly for world-building and minor encounters.

Environmental Creatures – These weren't primary hunt targets and were often easy to catch, contributing to the ecosystem's realism.

Environmental creatures were the weakest of all... except, of course, for the infamous Equal Dragon Weapon Frog.

His plan was simple: Capture an environmental creature to complete his first quest, obtain the Hunter's Basics, and then start planning for stronger companions. That would give him a fighting chance in this world.

However, this wasn't a game. Environmental creatures wouldn't just stand around waiting to be caught. After running through the forest in a panic earlier, he had probably scared most of them away. Now, everything was eerily silent.

"The forest sure is quiet… No random monster encounters. If I just focus on completing my first quest, I'll be able to start catching all kinds of creatures."

"Wait… it's too quiet."

A chill ran down Su Yi's spine. Even if some creatures had been startled away, the silence was unnatural.

"I don't like this, meow."

The Palico shivered slightly, its fur standing on end. It was on high alert.

"That is..."

Su Yi's gaze landed on a pair of glowing red eyes, flickering in the shadows behind the Palico. His extensive gaming experience sent alarms screaming through his mind. His scalp tingled.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

A dark silhouette lashed its tail.

A sudden burst of wind tore through the air—several sharp, barbed projectiles shot toward them.

"Watch out!"

Without thinking, Su Yi tackled the Palico to the ground.

Slash!

One of the barbs grazed his back, leaving a deep, bloody wound.

"What the meow?! A monster?!"

The Palico scrambled out of Su Yi's grasp, turning toward the approaching figure in the shadows.
