On the second floor of Drunken Night Restaurant, in the kitchen, twelve head chefs were preparing the dishes. Upon receiving the peculiar menu, they all struggled to hold back their laughter as they began cooking. Soon, all twenty dishes were ready.
For dishes that took more time, like soups, the chefs would pre-prepare the main ingredients or soup bases in advance. Once the orders were received, they would immediately reheat them and add quick-cooking ingredients.
The waiter quickly brought the twenty dishes into the private room. This left Sakura City Lord, Yosen, and the others dumbfounded as they stared at the twelve bowls of soup on the table, along with a few stir-fried dishes, and only a few small servings of meat.
"S-soup?" Sakura City Lord stood up in a daze, pointing at the soups on the table and asking the nearby waiter, "Why… are all of these soups?"
"Yes, all of them are dishes according to the guest's request," The waiter confirmed with a nod, proceeding to describe the dishes with enthusiasm. "Take the Six-Colored Water Dumplings, for example. They're made by pounding chicken, pork, and lamb together, mixed with a secret blend of spices, then cooked in a special broth, making them chewy and delicious."
"And this dish, Green Snake Crossing the Mysterious Waters, is made with a clear soup base of pork ribs and spices. It's served hot with cilantro on top—this is a new dish."
"..."
Everyone stared blankly at the Green Snake Crossing the Mysterious Waters. It was just a bowl of pork rib soup with two sprigs of green vegetables. Where's the snake? Where's the snake meat?
"Alright, no need to say more. You can go now," Sakura City Lord rolled his eyes and waved his hand, no longer wanting to hear any more explanations. After all, everything was just soup.
"Pfft…" Bryan covered his mouth, barely holding back the urge to laugh, which made Sakura City Lord, Yosen, and the others' faces turn dark.
"Father, these soups are quite good. Look, there's even green vegetables in winter!" Bryan exclaimed. He didn't expect that Drunken Night Restaurant would even have green vegetables available in the winter.
It was only after Bryan's reminder that everyone turned their attention to the dishes on the table, and sure enough, most of them contained green vegetables.
"How is this possible? Green vegetables in winter?"
Yosen suddenly stood up and reached into the soup to grab the green vegetables. He winced in pain from the heat but still shoved it into his mouth.
"Hiss…"
"Is… is this really green vegetables?" Yosen widened his eyes, reaching in for another piece, and the more he chewed, the more he couldn't believe it.
"How can there be green vegetables in winter?"
The others present couldn't believe it either. They all started reaching into the dishes to grab the vegetables, even if it burned their hands, they still shoved them into their mouths.
"It's really green vegetables! How is this possible? How can there be green vegetables in winter?"
Sakura City Lord was stunned, with soup dripping from the corner of his mouth. His worldview had been shattered; this completely defied the natural laws of the seasons.
"Hiss… it's really delicious." Bryan, though surprised, had already grown used to it. In Sedona City, nothing seemed impossible.
He skillfully used his chopsticks to pick up the green vegetables from the plate and quickly started eating. Occasionally, he would look down on the others for grabbing the vegetables with their hands.
The others quickly caught on and joined in the rush to grab the vegetables. They had been eating meat for so long, and if they didn't get some greens soon, they feared they wouldn't be able to go to the bathroom properly.
"Hiss… it's so good! Am I imagining it, or are the dishes here really that delicious?"
"It's not an illusion, it really tastes great, and the soup is incredibly delicious."
"No wonder the prices are so high; the taste is really that good… Hey! Save a meatball for me!"
"..."
Bryan stared, wide-eyed, at the five people who had transformed into hungry dogs, all grabbing food with their hands, and scooping soup directly from the bowl into their mouths.
He seriously wondered if these city lords had come from slums. Could they not have any decorum while eating? They were supposed to be nobles, city lords, no less!
Crunch, crunch! Bryan chewed on the cucumber, feeling incredibly wise for deciding to settle in Sedona City. His choice had been absolutely right.
"Hey! You old fool, that dish was mine! How come you took it?" Yosen shouted, saliva flying everywhere.
"The 'green snake' you ate earlier was also what I ordered," Sakura City Lord shot back, pouring soup into his own bowl.
"You…" Yosen fumed and grabbed another plate of food.
"Yosen, you bastard! That dish was mine!"
"I don't care, I ate it! What's the matter? Want a duel, noble-style?"
"..."
After a series of heated exchanges, all the city lords collapsed into their chairs, the table now a mess. Bowls and plates were scattered about, and some were even broken.
"That was so satisfying!" Sakura City Lord patted his belly, clearly pleased with his nimble food-stealing skills just now.
"Let's come back again tonight," Yosen said, a leaf of vegetable still hanging from the corner of his mouth.
"..." Bryan wiped the cold sweat off his forehead and muttered, "I'm only half full!"
Thud!
A bone flew through the air and struck Bryan on the head, followed by Sakura City Lord's roar, "You scoundrel! With such delicious food, how dare you hide it from me?!"
"Uh..." Bryan sheepishly touched his head. After enjoying the good life for so long, who would still care about the troublesome matters in Sakura City?
"I still can't believe it—there are actually vegetables in winter," Yosen licked the corner of his mouth, thinking about the horses at his stable. If he could learn the secret behind growing vegetables in winter, maybe it meant he could provide winter fodder for his horses as well.
As Yosen thought about it, he recalled how in previous winters, his horses had been fed dry fodder, leading to poor nutrition and scrawny bodies. However, if he could provide green fodder throughout the winter, and let the horses graze for another half month in the spring, he could increase their value by at least 30-40%.
"Whoosh, whoosh..."
At this thought, Yosen's breath quickened. He was determined to get his hands on the secret of growing vegetables in the winter, even if it meant using some special methods.
He wasn't alone in this desire—many others shared the same thought. The idea of growing vegetables in the snowy winter was tempting to everyone, even the highest of nobles.
"I take back what I said before, this Lucas is no simple person," One of the city lords suddenly spoke.
"..."
The room fell silent. These people were shrewd, and although their perspectives were sometimes limited by their experiences, they weren't foolish.
"You all have your eyes on the secret of growing vegetables in winter, right?" Yosen suddenly said.
"Of course," Came the immediate response from several others.
"What are you trying to say?" Sakura City Lord narrowed his eyes.
"Today's events, whatever happens, must not be spread. Otherwise, it won't be good for any of us," Yosen said, sitting up straighter, his eyes locking onto Bryan.
"I'll leave!" Bryan immediately got up, his face full of reluctance, and walked out. He knew they were about to discuss how to acquire the secret of winter vegetable cultivation.
He just hoped they wouldn't make any foolish decisions.
