Chapter 16: Mewtwo's Remnants and the Rebirth of Mewtwo
"System! Get out here now! This is serious!"
Ron stood frozen, completely shocked by the sight before him.
He had been searching for an exit inside the abandoned underground base when he noticed a large emblem on the wall.
The moment he saw it, he realized—this was one of Team Rocket's abandoned laboratories.
However, he had no idea what kind of experiments were conducted here.
Driven by curiosity, he searched room after room.
Then, when he entered a massive laboratory, he couldn't believe his eyes.
Inside the large chamber, over twenty cylindrical tanks stood in rows.
Suspended within them were grotesque, mutated creatures—each one bearing a resemblance to Mewtwo.
"Could this place be where Team Rocket tried to create Mewtwo?"
Suddenly, the system's voice rang out:
[Ding! Scan complete. The creatures in these tanks are failed Mewtwo clones. Each one suffers from genetic defects and all are currently deceased. Their bodies are only preserved due to the nutrient-rich solution in the tanks. Once exposed to air, they will rapidly decay into mush.]
Ron remained silent, his heart boiling with rage.
These twisted scientists had been so obsessed with power that they showed no regard for life.
How many Pokémon had suffered because of them?
And yet, at the same time, he felt chilled to the bone at the sheer cruelty of their experiments.
[Ding! Mewtwo's genetic data successfully recorded. Unlocking special reward.]
[Reward 1: The system can revive one of the failed clones, restoring it to full health. However, it will be significantly stronger than the host and may be hostile.]
[Reward 2: The system can extract genetic material from all the failed clones, fusing them into a single Pokémon Egg, allowing you to raise a newborn Mewtwo from scratch.]
[Host, please make a choice.]
Ron felt his breath catch.
He could bring Mewtwo back to life?!
This was unbelievable!
However, the system had given him two options:
1. A high-level, but uncontrollable Mewtwo
2. A newborn Mewtwo that he could raise from scratch
Any rational person would pick the second option.
And so, Ron made his decision.
As soon as he confirmed his choice, the failed Mewtwo clones in the tanks began to disintegrate.
Lillie watched in shock as silver-white energy strands flowed from the tanks, gathering in the air and fusing together.
Finally, a shining Pokémon Egg materialized.
Ron quickly caught it in his left hand, while supporting Lillie with his right.
Following the system's instructions, he channeled his psychic energy into the egg, forming a bond with the developing Mewtwo inside.
At that moment, the egg emitted a dazzling white light.
When the light faded, a small Mewtwo appeared before them.
Suddenly, a voice echoed in their minds:
"Papa? Ma…ma?"
Ron and Lillie immediately turned red.
Ron accepted it without much thought, but Lillie looked completely flustered.
Was he seriously now the father of a Legendary Pokémon?!
After a brief mental exchange, Ron reassured Mewtwo and placed it inside a Luxury Ball.
Holding the now stable Poké Ball in his hand, he finally accepted that this wasn't a dream.
To avoid complicating things for Lillie, Ron bluffed his way through, claiming his psychic abilities had helped bring Mewtwo into existence.
Since Mewtwo had already communicated telepathically, Lillie now fully believed it was a Psychic-type Pokémon.
After all, in the Pokémon world, there were many mysteries beyond human understanding.

Ron had never expected to stumble upon a Team Rocket base hidden in the Dark Forest.
Mewtwo's creation had various interpretations in Pokémon lore.
In the manga, Blaine helped create Mewtwo and even infused his own DNA into it, forming a special connection between them.
In the anime, the movie The Birth of Mewtwo revealed more of the Pokémon world's history and humanity's relationship with Pokémon.
It even explored Jessie's mother, Miyamoto, who had disappeared while searching for Mew.
Dr. Fuji, Mewtwo's creator, lost his daughter Amber, which led him to obsess over cloning technology.
The young Mewtwo in the film grew up in isolation, struggling with feelings of anger, loneliness, and identity.
No matter the version, Mewtwo's story was tragic.
Now, thanks to the system, a new Mewtwo had been born.
Unlike Giovanni's Mewtwo, this one had the chance to live a happier life.
Since the system didn't count Mewtwo as a gifted Pokémon, Ron could still capture one more high-quality Pokémon for the Indigo League Tournament.
Though he couldn't see Mewtwo's exact stats, being a Legendary Pokémon, it was undoubtedly at least top-tier.
However, now that he had seven Pokémon, he needed to send one back to Professor Oak.
After much deliberation, he decided to send Sylveon.
"Sorry, Sylveon. But Professor Oak has been asking about you."
Ron sighed, imagining the professor's excitement when he received Sylveon.
Although it was a tough decision, the next two gyms—Celadon and Fuchsia—focused on Poison-types.
Sylveon wouldn't have much use there.
With Lillie on his back, Ron continued searching for an exit, hoping to find any remaining valuable data.
However, the lab had already been stripped clean.
Even the Mewtwo remains had completely disintegrated after the cloning process.
When they finally found an exit, they were greeted by a horde of angry Geodude and Graveler.
Ron twitched.
"Uh… guys? We didn't mean to disturb you. Can we talk this out?"
The answer?
A barrage of Rock-type attacks.
Ron released all his Pokémon, using Protect to shield himself and Lillie.
Seeing his father in danger, Mewtwo instinctively reacted.
With a wave of its tiny hand, a powerful Psychic blast sent most of the Rock-types flying.
However, the move drained its energy, and Mewtwo collapsed from exhaustion.
Charizard caught it midair, then grabbed Ron and Lillie and flew out of the cave.
Once outside, Charizard sealed the entrance with Hyper Beam, temporarily blocking their pursuers.
Though they knew the Rock-types could dig their way out, at least they had escaped for now.
