Naruto: I Beat The Villagers And Made Them Scream

Chapter 48: Danzo Is Dead, But the Process Continues

After Saito Uchiha escorted the troublemaker dango stall owner back to the Konoha Military Police Force headquarters, he continued patrolling with his team.

"Hideaki, you handled today's situation well. Instead of acting rashly regarding that child, you reported to me first before taking action. I'll make sure to put in a good word for you with Vice Captain Kuragami."

Saito Uchiha said while patting the shoulder of a young team member beside him.

"This was all thanks to you, leader, for briefing us beforehand."

Hideaki Sakurai exhaled in relief. "To be honest, I was scared stiff when I saw that kid being harassed."

This civilian-born ninja had been working in the Konoha Military Police Force for a while now and had occasionally encountered Naruto during their patrols. They are initially unaware of Naruto's true identity and are influenced by rumors, believing him to be the demon fox that brings disaster.

Some of them or their families had even participated in bullying Naruto.

However, the Uchiha leaders in the Konoha Military Police Force, even if unaware of Naruto's parentage, understood the significance of a Jinchūriki.

Provoking a Jinchūriki was dangerous; if the Jinchūriki lost control and killed someone, the Jinchūriki might face some punishment, but the victim would be truly dead.

Having built a good rapport with their civilian subordinates, the Uchiha officers repeatedly warned them to steer clear of Naruto. Over time, these civilian recruits and their families came to understand that Naruto was someone they absolutely should not provoke.

While they didn't immediately change their attitudes, at the very least, they stopped verbally abusing him.

"From now on, if you encounter that child during patrols, offer some help when appropriate, but don't make it too obvious. Understood?"

Saito instructed.

Before Kakashi was seen with Naruto, the Konoha Military Police Force had maintained a neutral stance, neither provoking nor interacting with him. Both sides had sensitive identities, after all.

But now that Kakashi seemed to be forming a bond with Naruto, and given his close relationship with the clan head Kuragami, Saito saw the need for this new approach.

"Leader, why?" One of the patrol members asked curiously.

"Don't ask too many questions. If it's something you need to know, I'll tell you." Saito replied.

"Got it, it's classified, huh? Better for us not to pry." Hideaki Sakurai wasn't upset at being rebuffed; instead, he chuckled while scratching his head.

After working together for some time, these civilian ninjas realized that the Uchiha Clan, who had been demonized by village rumors, weren't actually that difficult to get along with. Sure, they were a bit arrogant and loved talking about their clan's honor, but beyond that, they were pretty fair.

If you ran into trouble at work, they'd scold you a bit but still help you solve it. If you asked them for guidance on jutsu, they'd roll their eyes and say something like: "As expected, those without Uchiha blood lack talent." but then proceed to teach you things that were never covered in the academy.

"Good. Now, let's finish patrolling quickly. After work, drinks are on me." Saito announced.

"Leader, you're the best!" cheers erupted from the team.

This was another reason why working with the Uchiha was great; they were incredibly generous with their own people.

… … …

On the other side of the village, Kakashi and Naruto, after that incident, had lost their mood for strolling around.

"Uh, Kakashi-nii..."

Naruto mumbled, his head lowered. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you apologizing? None of this was your fault." Kakashi said.

"But if it weren't for me, you wouldn't have had to deal with that."

Naruto said while lowering his head.

Kakashi stopped walking, crouched down to Naruto's eye level, and said seriously: "Naruto, listen to me. Many people may be in the wrong here, but you are the only one who is truly innocent. You have nothing to apologize for."

Hearing this, Naruto's eyes reddened. Ever since he could remember, aside from the third Hokage, Kakashi was the first person to completely believe in him.

"If something like this ever happens again, go to the Konoha Military Police Force. Those uncles will stand up for you." Kakashi continued.

"The Konoha Military Police Force? You mean those ninjas from earlier?" Naruto asked curiously.

"That's right." Kakashi nodded.

"Will they really help me?" Naruto still had doubts.

"Yes, they will."

Kakashi's gaze flickered with a peculiar light. "Come on, let's go get some ramen."

At the mention of his favorite food, Naruto instantly perked up, forgetting all about the unpleasant events from earlier, and happily followed Kakashi.

… … …

At the Hokage's office, Hiruzen Sarutobi let out a heavy sigh after hearing a report from an Anbu ninja about the incident in the marketplace.

Just then, the office doors swung open, and Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado stormed in, their faces filled with fury.

Hiruzen Sarutobi dismissed the reporting Anbu with a wave of his hand.

As soon as the Anbu left, Homura wasted no time in confronting him. "Hiruzen, what are you thinking?! How can you allow someone to casually approach the Jinchūriki?!"

"You're overreacting. Kakashi was Minato's student; he had every right to look after his teacher's son." Hiruzen Sarutobi said patiently.

"Hiruzen, this concerns the village's Jinchūriki. You can't afford to be soft-hearted." Koharu insisted.

"And what do you propose? Do you want to lock Naruto away like Danzo suggested and brainwash him into a mindless weapon?"

Hiruzen Sarutobi's voice grew sharp. "Don't forget, Naruto is not just a Jinchūriki; he is Minato's son! The son of the fourth Hokage! Minato has already given his life for the village!"

"Hiruzen, that's not what we meant."

Homura said. "But don't forget that Kakashi possesses the Sharingan! Remember what happened six years ago!"

"Enough! This discussion is over!" Hiruzen Sarutobi snapped.

"Hiruzen, Danzo was right, you're too indecisive."

Koharu scowled. "One day, you will regret this!"

"I am the Hokage!"

Hiruzen Sarutobi slapped the table and shouted in anger.

Seeing that further argument was futile, Homura and Koharu huffed in frustration and turned to leave. As they exited, they slammed the door behind them with a loud bang.

Once they were gone, Hiruzen Sarutobi lit his pipe, took a deep inhale, and gazed out the window with a dark and unclear light shining in his eyes.
