Chapter 423: Something is Wrong
"Group Leader Lu?"
Tank saw Lu Wenrou staring intently at the bag with a strange expression, and he was somewhat puzzled.
However, the children were shivering from the cold, so he didn't ask any more questions.
Instead, he pulled out a dagger, squatted down, and cut the ropes binding the children's hands and feet.
"Thank you, uncle!"
"Thank you, uncle!"
The children blinked, speaking weakly.
Swish...
However, one of them, a child with long, messy hair, as soon as Tank bent his head and cut the rope around his wrist, threw a punch at Tank's throat.
This was a vital point, a heavy blow could be fatal on the spot.
"What are you doing?"
Tank was shocked, completely unable to understand why the kid would bite the hand that freed him.
Fortunately, Tank was tall and by simply tilting his neck, he created distance from the child's fist.
At the same time, he reached out with his palm wide as a fan, ready to press down on the child's shoulder to subdue him.
Thinking the child might be delirious from the cold and mistaking him for a bad guy, he explained, "Don't panic, I'm here to rescue you!"
"Swish..."
But the child's eyes were fierce. Without a word, his fingers clawed forcefully at Tank's vital part.
"Damn it!"
Tank was all muscle and strength, but it didn't mean that area was impervious to pain.
In agony, his face turned the color of liver, he couldn't help but yell, "Let go, what are you doing?"
But the child was as if deaf.
Far from letting go, he gripped even harder, and with his other hand, jabbed like a knife towards Tank's lower abdomen.
"Are you fucking crazy?"
Tank was both shocked and furious. What kind of child was this, a demon perhaps, targeting his vitals with every move?
Grinding his teeth and enduring the sharp pain, he struck towards the child's neck, aiming to knock him out.
Slap...
The child turned his head, almost as if offering his face to Tank's palm.
The child, just a little over a meter tall, was sent flying by Tank's slap.
"Run, they're all bad guys!"
The child who was slapped away yelled, scrambling over the scrap to climb out of the enclosure first.
The remaining children exchanged glances, also not daring to trust Tank and Lu Wenrou, and fled in all directions.
"Hey... you!"
This change, though lengthy in description, happened in less than half a minute, and the children in the courtyard vanished without a trace.
"Shit... ow…"
Tank cursed, squatting and clutching his thigh; the child's grip had been strong and nearly crushed him.
"Are you okay?"
Lu Wenrou frowned, dropped the bag on the ground, and walked over to Tank with an uneasy look to ask.
"Hiss... it hurts, give me a moment!"
Tank said, his face reddening.
Not only was the injured spot delicate, but he also felt humiliated for being overpowered by a child.
"Something's not right, let's get out of here!"
Lu Wenrou reached out her hand to help Tank up.
"Group Leader Lu, why is there money in the bag..."
As they passed the black bag, Tank also saw the money inside.
"I don't know either, we may have been set up!"
Lu Wenrou didn't touch the bag of money again; instead, she helped Tank to the outside of the junkyard, ready to drive to the orphanage to ask that middle-aged woman how such a large sum of money ended up in the bag.
Squeak...
Squeak...
Just as she had gotten into the car, a line of somewhat familiar black SUVs drove up.
About a dozen young men dressed in Zhongshan suits alighted, holding guns, and surrounded Lu Wenrou's SUV.
"People from the Seventh Bureau?"
Lu Wenrou pushed open the car door and jumped out, her face stern as she spoke, "What is this? Don't you recognize me?"
"Team Leader Lu, we received a report that you were conducting illegal transactions at the scrapyard!"
Han Bing, with her cool demeanor and long legs, also stepped out of the car, wearing sunglasses.
"It seems Qin Yu was right; you're really sick. Would someone from Dragon Gate engage in illegal transactions?"
Lu Wenrou was infuriated by Han Bing's words.
"Lu Wenrou... what's with that attitude; do you believe I can shoot you right here?"
Han Bing's expression changed too, unable to believe Lu Wenrou would call her sick in front of so many subordinates.
With a swift motion she drew her service pistol, disengaged the safety, and rested her finger on the trigger.
"Then shoot me, come on! Are you the only one with a gun?"
Lu Wenrou drew her own service pistol as well, pointing it at Han Bing.
The tension was palpable, as if a fight could break out at any second.
"Whoa... hold on, both of you commanders, can't we be less impulsive please?"
Tank, with his legs squeezed together, also got out of the car and said with a pained expression, "It's clear we've been set up. If you two really clash and one of you gets killed, it would be the biggest joke ever!"
"Hmph, keep an eye on them. Some of you, come with me and let's see what's going on inside!"
No matter how temperamental Han Bing was, she wouldn't actually shoot Lu Wenrou. With a cold snort, she holstered her gun and led several subordinates into the scrapyard.
About ten minutes later, she walked out carrying a black bag of money and threw it at Lu Wenrou's feet, "Explain this money!"
"Why don't you check it out for yourself? I have no idea!"

Lu Wenrou turned her head away.
"Team Leader, there's big news!"
At that moment, a member of the Seventh Bureau showed Han Bing his phone.
"Hm?"
Han Bing's eyebrows knit together in a frown, and after a few glances, she handed the phone to Lu Wenrou, "Now deal with it, explain this to your superiors and the thousands of netizens!"
"What's this?"
Lu Wenrou took the phone with suspicion and saw a clearly edited video playing.
It showed her dropping a bag of money on the ground, as well as Tank and the child getting into a scuffle, with the boy being slapped away.
But the title was particularly malicious: Dragon Gate members involved in illegal activities, and assaulting a child.
In less than ten minutes, the video had tens of thousands of views, and the comment section was blowing up.
Netizen A: My god, what kind of era are we in that there's still child trafficking?
Netizen B: Look at that burly man, such a terrifying expression, he clearly isn't a good person, and he had the nerve to hit a child and even slap him away.
Netizen C: Look at these kids, in the middle of winter, still wearing short sleeves, their little faces frozen blue, where is their conscience?
Netizen D: Severe punishment is a must!
"Lu Wenrou, looks like you've caused quite a mess!"
Han Bing, arms folded, wore a hint of schadenfreude on her face.
From their first meeting, she and Lu Wenrou didn't get along, and now seeing her at a disadvantage brought Han Bing a certain joy.
"Hmph, this is obviously a trap. Our special operations squad arrives in Jinling, and such an incident occurs; isn't it as clear as daylight that there's hidden money here?"
After returning the phone to Han Bing, Lu Wenrou's face was as if coated with a layer of frost.
"Whether it's a trap or not isn't something you need to tell me, it's something you should say to the leaders of Dragon Gate!"
Shrugging, Han Bing took a few steps before adding, "By the way, you are now suspects; please come with us to the Seventh Bureau!"
