Chapter 120: Moving to Tokyo (120)

The morning sun bathed the small town in a warm, golden glow, casting long shadows as Haruto and Aiko stood at the train station, their luggage neatly stacked beside them. Their families and a few close friends had gathered to bid them farewell, offering last-minute advice, tearful hugs, and promises to visit. It was the day they had been anticipating for months—the day they left their hometown behind to start a new chapter of their lives in Tokyo.

Aiko's mother held her hands tightly. "Take care of yourself, okay? Don't skip meals, and make sure to rest properly."

"I will, Mom," Aiko reassured her, blinking back tears. "I promise."

Haruto's father patted his son's shoulder, his expression filled with pride. "Study hard, but don't forget to enjoy your time there. University is about more than just books."

Haruto nodded. "I'll do my best, Dad."

The train station buzzed with activity—travelers hurried across platforms, conductors made announcements, and the rhythmic hum of incoming trains filled the air. But for Haruto and Aiko, everything else seemed distant. This was it. The life they had known was about to change.

As the departure announcement echoed through the speakers, Aiko took one last look at the town where they had grown up. The streets where they had walked home together, the cherry blossom tree where they had shared their first anniversary, and the small café where they had their first date—each memory played in her mind like a movie.

She felt Haruto's hand wrap around hers, warm and reassuring. "Ready?" he asked softly.

She nodded. "Yeah."

With one final wave to their families, they stepped onto the train, their hearts heavy yet full of anticipation.

The journey to Tokyo was long, but neither of them minded. The train sped through lush countryside, past mountains and rivers, and eventually, towering buildings began to rise in the distance, signaling their arrival in the sprawling metropolis. As they neared the city, the realization of their new life settled in.

Aiko turned to Haruto. "Can you believe we're actually doing this? We're going to be university students in Tokyo."

Haruto smiled, squeezing her hand. "It still feels unreal. But I know we can handle it together."

When they finally arrived at the station in Tokyo, the sheer size and pace of the city overwhelmed them. People rushed past in every direction, taxis honked, and the streets buzzed with energy. It was a stark contrast to the quiet town they had left behind.

Haruto checked his phone for directions. "Our apartment isn't too far from here. We just need to take the subway."

Navigating the subway system proved to be a challenge, but after a few wrong turns and a lot of laughter, they finally made it to their new home—a modest but cozy apartment in a student-friendly neighborhood.

Aiko set her bags down, looking around the small yet inviting space. "It's smaller than I imagined, but… it feels nice."

Haruto stretched his arms. "It's perfect for us."

They spent the rest of the afternoon unpacking and setting up their space, filling it with small reminders of home—Aiko placed a framed photo of their high school graduation on the nightstand, while Haruto arranged his books neatly on the shelf. By the time they finished, the room felt less like a temporary living space and more like home.

That evening, they decided to explore their new neighborhood. The streets were lined with small restaurants, convenience stores, and bustling cafés. Neon lights flickered as the city came alive at night. It was unlike anything they had experienced before.

They stopped at a ramen shop near their apartment, the savory aroma making their stomachs growl. As they ate, Aiko couldn't help but smile. "I was a little nervous at first, but I think I'm going to love it here."

Haruto nodded, slurping his noodles. "Yeah. It's different, but it's exciting. A new adventure."

After dinner, they walked back home under the glow of city lights, hand in hand. The air was cool, and for the first time since leaving home, Aiko felt a sense of peace.

"Haruto?" she said softly.

"Yeah?"

She looked up at him, her eyes reflecting the city lights. "I know things are going to be different now. We'll be busy with university, new friends, and everything that comes with living in a big city. But no matter what happens, let's promise to always support each other."

Haruto stopped walking and turned to her, his expression serious yet filled with warmth. "Aiko, I don't care how busy we get. You're the most important person in my life. No matter what, we'll face everything together."

Aiko felt her heart swell. She reached up and cupped his face gently. "Thank you. For everything."

Haruto leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "We've come this far, haven't we? We'll be okay."

As they continued walking, the city around them pulsed with life, but in that moment, all that mattered was the promise they had just made.

Their journey in Tokyo had only just begun.
