JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Horizons

Chapter 24: Chapter 21: The Phantom’s Shadow

---

Prologue: The Hunt Begins

The night was unnaturally silent. The battle with Void Nakamura had ended, but its effects still lingered in the air—an eerie stillness, as if the world itself had been wounded.

Akira stood near the remains of the warehouse, his mind racing through everything that had just happened. Abyss Waltz wasn't a normal Stand. It didn't just erase sound—it erased presence. Void Nakamura could exist in a state of nothingness, slipping between reality and an unseen void.

And yet… they had hit him.

That meant he wasn't untouchable.

Daisuke coughed as he pushed himself up, wincing from his injuries. "That guy… he wasn't even fighting seriously, was he?"

Kenji cracked his knuckles. "Nope. He was playing with us."

Mei adjusted her glasses, analyzing the battlefield. "Which means next time, he'll come back stronger."

Hiroshi, who had taken the worst hit, groaned as he leaned against a broken pillar. "Tch. If that was him holding back, then we're in trouble."

Akira stayed quiet, still piecing together what they knew.

Void Nakamura had retreated instead of finishing them off. That meant one of two things:

1. He was testing them, gathering data for a future encounter.

2. He had another objective—something more important than killing them outright.

His next move wasn't to fight them head-on.

It was to hunt them down one by one.

Phase One: The Phantom's First Strike

The realization came too late.

Just as Akira opened his mouth to speak, the lights went out.

Total darkness.

Not just the absence of light—but a void.

Even the dim glow of the moon, the distant city lights—gone.

Then—a scream.

It came from Mei.

Akira spun around, but—she was already gone.

One second, she was there. The next—nothing.

Kenji roared in frustration. "DAMN IT!"

Daisuke gritted his teeth. "He's picking us off!"

Hiroshi's katana flashed as he swung in a defensive arc, his eyes scanning the darkness. "We need to regroup!"

Akira closed his eyes, trying to focus. His Stand, Echo Chamber, might not be able to produce sound inside Void's ability, but he could still sense vibrations.

He sent out a pulse—a wave of soundless force, using the air itself to map their surroundings.

A flicker—there!

A shadow shifted in the darkness, moving toward—

Kenji.

"BEHIND YOU!"

Kenji barely had time to react.

A hand emerged from the darkness, fingertips grazing his back—

But at the last second, Kenji turned, swinging with all his strength.

His fist met solid flesh.

CRACK!

Void Nakamura staggered back—for the second time.

The darkness shuddered.

And then—Mei reappeared.

She gasped, clutching her throat, her eyes wide with terror. "I—I couldn't breathe… it was like I wasn't even real…"

Void Nakamura, now standing a few feet away, stared at them.

Slowly, he touched his jaw—where Kenji had hit him.

A faint smirk crossed his lips.

"…You're adapting."

Then, in the blink of an eye, he vanished again.

Phase Two: Into the Abyss

The air was tense.

Void Nakamura was still there, hiding in the shadows between existence.

Waiting.

Watching.

Hunting.

Mei took deep breaths, regaining her composure. "I was in some kind of… nothingness. No light, no sound, no air. Just… emptiness."

Akira's mind worked fast. "Then that's his true ability. He doesn't just erase sound—he erases concepts. When he touched you, he made you cease to exist for a moment."

Daisuke paled. "That means if he wanted to—he could erase us permanently."

Kenji tensed. "Then we can't let him touch us."

Akira nodded. "And we need to find a way to make him solid—permanently."

Phase Three: Setting the Trap

Akira formulated a plan on the spot.

1. Use Echo Chamber's vibrations to track Void Nakamura's movement.

2. Force him to take a solid form.

3. Overwhelm him before he disappears again.

They didn't have much time.

Void was toying with them—but if they didn't act fast, he would get serious.

Akira activated Echo Chamber, sending silent pulses into the air, mapping every disturbance in the void.

He found him.

"Hiroshi—NOW!"

Hiroshi lunged, his katana flashing through the darkness—

It connected.

Void Nakamura winced, forced into a solid state for a split second.

Kenji was ready.

With a roar, he slammed his fist into Void's chest, sending him flying across the room.

Daisuke followed up instantly—using Gale Phantom to launch a tornado kick straight into Void's ribs.

Void hit the ground, coughing up blood.

It was the first time he had taken real damage.

For the first time, he looked surprised.

For the first time—

He looked human.

Epilogue: The Phantom Retreats

Void Nakamura slowly stood up, wiping the blood from his lips. His dark eyes studied them—not with anger, but with genuine curiosity.

"…Fascinating."

The void around them flickered—and then, just as quickly as it had appeared—

It was gone.

The world returned to normal. The city lights flickered back on, the sounds of distant cars and sirens filling the air once more.

Void Nakamura took a step back, his form fading into the shadows.

He met Akira's gaze—his smirk returning.

"The next time we meet… I won't underestimate you."

Then, he was gone.

Akira let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding.

Mei collapsed to her knees, still shaken. "We… we actually hurt him."

Hiroshi clenched his fists. "Yeah. But next time, he won't hold back."

Daisuke sighed. "So what now?"

Akira turned to face the group, his expression serious.

"…Now, we prepare."
