Chapter 16: Chapter 13: The Iron Guardian
Koji Sakamoto's Last Stand!
---
Prologue: The Fortress in the Ruins
The industrial district was a graveyard of steel and stone.
Once a thriving sector of the city, it had now fallen into ruin—a battleground where Phantom Syndicate operatives roamed like scavengers, hunting those who dared resist them.
And standing alone in the heart of this desolation, like a fortress against the storm, was Koji Sakamoto.
The Iron Guardian.
His body, built like an unshakable mountain, stood tall among the crumbling buildings. His hands, scarred from countless battles, remained clenched at his sides. The dust of destruction clung to his jacket, but his stance was firm.
Behind him, Iron Will loomed—a towering, armored behemoth of a Stand, its steel-plated fists reflecting the dim light of the ruined cityscape.
Beneath his feet lay the remains of an old shelter. The place where dozens of innocents had once sought refuge. Now, only rubble remained.
Koji took a slow breath.
He was used to being alone.
But tonight, something was coming.
Something he couldn't face alone.
---
Phase One: A City Under Siege
"We're getting close."
Akira adjusted his cracked glasses, peering through the thick fog that rolled through the industrial district. The air smelled of rust, smoke, and something faintly metallic—blood.
Kenji walked beside him, his massive frame tense with anticipation. "Koji won't just let us walk in."
Nao sighed. "He never does."
Daisuke smirked. "Then we'll just have to kick down the door."
The ground beneath them was uneven, littered with broken pipes and shattered concrete. The deeper they went, the more evidence they found of recent battles. Scorch marks from explosives. Walls torn apart by unnatural forces. Bloodstains long dried into the pavement.
Then—
A low rumble shook the ground beneath their feet.
A massive steel wall shot up from the pavement, cutting off their path.
Akira adjusted his glasses. "Here we go."
A deep, unwavering voice echoed through the ruined streets.
"You don't belong here."
From the shadows, Koji Sakamoto stepped forward.
He was a giant among men, his broad frame covered in a tattered coat, his fists wrapped in old bandages stained with faded crimson. His expression was unreadable—stone-cold and unyielding.
Behind him, Iron Will manifested, a massive armored figure standing like a living fortress.
Kenji exhaled. "We're not here to fight."
Koji's eyes didn't waver.
"Then turn back."
The steel barricades shifted, pressing in closer, forcing them into a tight formation.
Daisuke tensed. "We don't have time for this."
Akira stepped forward. "Koji, we need you. Minh and Cetz are planning something big. We have to stop them before this city is completely destroyed."
Koji's jaw tightened. "The city's already lost."
Haruto scoffed. "That's a coward's answer."
Koji's gaze darkened.
"The only cowards are the ones who couldn't protect it."
Nao crossed her arms. "Then what are you doing? Hiding?"
Koji's fist tightened.
"I protect the people that are still alive."
"Then fight for them."
A moment of silence.
Then—
A thunderous crash erupted from behind them.
And a voice, dripping with amusement, cut through the air.
"Oh, this is rich."

Phase Two: The Revenant Arrives
The air turned ice-cold.
From the ruins, a shadowy figure stepped forward. His body was wrapped in dark cloth, his movements unnatural—like a puppet being held up by invisible strings.
A slow, amused grin stretched across his pale face.
Masaru "The Revenant" Okabe.
A man who had died a thousand times.
And kept coming back.
His Stand, Endless Requiem, loomed behind him—a grotesque, skeletal entity with ever-regenerating flesh. Its bones twisted and reformed endlessly, dripping with an inky black substance.
Masaru let out a slow chuckle.
"What a touching little reunion."
Koji's expression didn't change. "You."
Masaru smirked. "Still playing hero, Koji?"
Kenji stepped forward. "If you don't want your face rearranged, I'd walk away."
Masaru tilted his head. "You can try."
Then—
He lunged.
---
Phase Three: The Unbreakable Shield
Koji reacted instantly.
Iron Will slammed its fist into the ground—
A massive barrier of steel erupted from the earth, cutting off Masaru's attack.
Masaru's grin widened. His Stand's twisted fingers liquefied, shifting into shadowy tendrils that slipped through the cracks.
Koji's eyes flickered with recognition.
He knew this fight.
He had fought Masaru before.
And Masaru had never stayed dead.
But today, that would change.
---
Phase Four: The Phantom's Last Breath
Masaru laughed. "You think this little trick can stop me?"
His body exploded.
Flesh and bone rained down—but within seconds, his form stitched itself back together.
Akira's mind raced. He regenerates too fast… unless—
He adjusted his glasses. "Koji, we don't have to kill him."
Koji didn't respond.
Instead, Iron Will's fists clenched.
Nao's eyes widened. "Wait. He's—"
Koji slammed his hands into the steel barriers.
A pulse of energy shot through the metal—
And the entire battlefield shifted.
Walls rose. Floors collapsed. The city itself became Koji's weapon.
Masaru's eyes flickered with realization. "You're trying to bury me?"
Koji finally spoke.
"No."
The steel around Masaru twisted, tightened, locked.
"You're not escaping this time."
Masaru snarled.
His Stand lashed out—only to be intercepted by Akira's Echo Chamber.
A resonance wave pulsed through the metal.
Masaru's body shuddered.
Daisuke's eyes widened. "They're tuning the steel to his regeneration!"
Kenji grinned. "If his body forgets how to rebuild—"
Haruto smirked. "Then he stays dead."
Masaru's form trembled.
Then—
For the first time ever—
Masaru failed to regenerate.
His face twisted in horror. "No—"
Koji moved in.
A single punch.
Steel-coated fists crashed into Masaru's skull—
And sent him flying through six barricades.
Masaru's lifeless body collapsed.
And this time—
He did not rise.

Epilogue: The Last Guardian Stands With Them
Koji exhaled slowly.
Akira stepped forward. "The war's not over yet."
Koji turned to face him.
A long silence.
Then—
He extended his hand.
"I'm in."
Daisuke grinned. "Took you long enough."
Kenji clapped Koji's shoulder. "Welcome to the team, big guy."
Koji smirked. "Someone's gotta keep you idiots alive."
Akira adjusted his glasses.
They were one step closer.
And the final battle was about to begin.
