Chapter 1: A new World
It was October 9, 1985. In Tokyo, the afternoon was beginning calmly. The clear sky reflected the frenetic movement of the city. People went to cafes, walked through the streets in a hurry and lost themselves in the improvement of everyday life. An ordinary day. Or at least, it seemed so.
While the city pulsed with the energy of its daily life, inside a secret and advanced facility, something extraordinary was about to happen. In the heart of this cutting-edge technology laboratory, a group of scientists was about to take the greatest step in human history: the creation of an infinite source of energy. A revolution that would not only end Japan's energy crisis, but would transform the entire world.
Dr. Megumi looked at her colleagues with unbeatable confidence. She knew she was about to make history.
"Dr. Megumi, are you sure this will work?" said one of the scientists, hesitantly. She had no doubts.
"Of course! This is the research of my life. Let's get to it! Turn on the servers!"
The researchers, nervous, began to activate the systems, one by one.
—European Union energy tower online.
—South America energy tower online.
—North America energy tower online.
—Oceania online.
—Asia online, doctor. We are connected and ready.
Megumi took a deep breath, watching the screens around her. This was the moment.
—Phase 2. Turn on the gears! —she tried, the glow in her eyes reflecting the magnitude of what they were about to accomplish.
As the machines began to operate, tuning in to frequencies that transcended matter. Negumi thought
—With this technology, we will not only generate infinite energy... We will generate a rebirth.
The interconnected towers are more than structures—they are synapses of a global brain, capable of healing the Earth from the wounds we ourselves have inflicted. Quantum physics will not be just a tool, but our salvation. With it, we will rewrite hunger as a myth, disease as a relic of the past.
Imagine... Floating cities powered by starlight, oceans depolluted by self-replicating nanomachines, children born free of cancer and scarcity. A grateful universe... It is the transcendence of our own species.
Her interests were grandiose, her thoughts ran like a violent current.
That was when a scream cut through the air.
"Doctor Megumi, something is wrong! What are these numbers?!"
The lights in the room began to flash red, followed by the incessant sound of alarms. The ground shook, as if the planet itself was about to collapse.
"What's happening?!" shouted other researchers, confused and terrified.
Megumi turned to the monitor. Her eyes widened. The data was... unbelievable. The simulation suggested a planetary collapse. But what really took her breath away was what appeared next.
The once dark sky tore like paper.
A blinding flash erupted from the center of the city, and in the next instant, a monstrous rift in the fabric of reality opened before everyone. It was a portal. But there was no portal. From that opening, a wave of chaotic energy continued, sweeping everything in front of it. The buildings vibrated with the impact, and many fell, instantly unconscious, taken by a force that seemed to consume everything.
Before losing consciousness, Megumi barely managed to whisper, with difficulty, almost without strength:
"Damn... we opened... another dimension..."
And then, the world around her collapsed.
From the portal, indescribable creatures emerged. Monsters, living nightmares, invaded the streets, dragging humanity into a new hell. What seemed to be the end, in fact, was only just beginning. But the most shocking thing of all was not the appearance of these creatures, nor the chaos that was unfolding throughout the city. It was the power that emanated from them. Something... new. Magic.
The scientists searched for infinite energy, but what they did not find was a source of electricity. It was something much deeper. And the impact of this discovery would be irreversible.
While governments desperately tried to organize a response, the army was called in to contain an invasion. But conventional weapons had no effect. Bullets bounced off or were simply crushed by the dense skin of these creatures, without causing significant damage. Only the highest caliber weapons managed to defeat some of the low-level monsters, such as rockets, grenades and special operations tactical rifles.
And then, in a desperate act of courage, a soldier, already surrounded, grabbed a blade from one of the fallen humanoid monsters and, even though he knew he would have no chance, advanced against other smaller creatures. What happened next made everyone around stop and watch.
The blade, made of a strange material and resonating with the creatures' magical power, easily cut through the monsters. The soldier not only survived, but destroyed several enemies with a single blade. A magical weapon.
It was then that humanity realized. It was no longer enough to fight with the tools they knew. The world had changed. The creatures and their magical weapons had altered everything, from the way war would be fought to the very nature of human existence. The power emanating from the portal was not just destruction, it was the key to a new era.
But somehow, everyone knew that something more was coming. What had been opened was not just a portal, but a path. And through it, humanity was now forced to evolve. After all, nothing would ever be the same again.
