Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Jacob and Queenie
"Yes," Professor Hicks smiled and said, "I've already learned about your situation from Professor Dumbledore. I just want to say, you are the bravest young wizards I've ever met."
"Young wizards of your age don't often have the courage to do such things. I think, you'll definitely be sorted into Gryffindor."
Wade couldn't help but blink. Tom Riddle being sorted into Gryffindor? What kind of dark joke was that? Even the coffin lid wouldn't be able to contain Salazar Slytherin if his heir goes to that house!
"What is Gryffindor?" Tom asked, looking confused.
Wade grabbed a book from Tom's pile of luggage and threw it into his hands.
"Take a look at this book and you'll understand. You haven't read it since you bought it, have you?"
Tom glanced at the title of the book in his hands, Hogwarts: A History, and couldn't help but frown.
He hadn't read the book, as his attention had been completely captured by the spellbooks.
As for this kind of historical book, unless he wanted to learn more about Hogwarts and wasn't lacking money for the time being, he definitely wouldn't have bought it.
Professor Hicks chuckled. "I'd actually love to tell you about the history of Hogwarts, but I have some things to do right now. Could you please wait on the carriage for a while?"
"Uh-Mnm..." Wade nodded, already guessing what Professor Hicks was going to be busy with.
It seemed that Dumbledore had assigned the task of erasing any traces of himself and Tom to Professor Hicks.
"Alright, let's go," Professor Hicks said, placing her hand on Wade and Tom's shoulders.
Snap!
In the next moment, the three of them appeared in front of the orphanage... right next to the carriage!
"Ugh!" Tom gagged, feeling a bit nauseous.
Wade's face was also somewhat pale.
"First-time Apparition can be a bit unsettling. Take your time to adjust," Professor Hicks said, then vanished once again.
When she reappeared, she had already brought out Wade and Tom's luggage.
"Frank, can you look after them for me?" Professor Hicks asked the driver.
"Of course, go quickly and come back soon, it's almost dawn."
The driver, Frank, nodded in response while jumping down from the carriage. He moved Wade and Tom's luggage onto the luggage rack at the back of the carriage and secured it.
"Um... Professor Hicks, can I bring my house-elf?" Wade suddenly asked.
"You have a house-elf?" Professor Hicks looked at Wade in surprise.
"Yeah, I found him just a few hours ago in a little alley over there," Wade said, calling out, "Toby, are you here?"
Snap!
Toby appeared directly in front of Wade.
"Young master Wade, Toby is here. What can I do for you?"
At this point, Toby looked much better than he had a few hours ago, and he had strictly followed Wade's instructions to clean himself up.
Even the ragged cloth he had been wearing was replaced with a clean and tidy piece of curtain fabric, though no one knew where he had gotten it from.
Wade turned to Professor Hicks with a questioning look. "Professor Hicks?"
"Since he now belongs to you, of course, you can bring him along."
Although Professor Hicks was surprised by this, she had no reason to stop Wade from bringing his house-elf.
And even though she had many questions, now wasn't the time to ask them.
"Thank you," Wade said gratefully.
Afterward, Wade and Tom both sat into the carriage, while Toby immediately climbed onto the luggage rack at the back of the carriage.
Through the carriage window, Wade and Tom silently watched as Professor Hicks pushed open the door and entered the orphanage.
"Don't worry, Eulalie is a very accomplished witch; she won't harm anyone inside," Frank muttered quietly, holding a pipe as he leaned against the side of the carriage.
"Mr. Frank, is she planning to erase their memories directly?" Tom suddenly asked.
Frank blew out a smoke ring and then said, "My name is Frank Doyle. You can call me Mr. Doyle."
"Well... Eulalie is going to erase the parts of their memories related to you, and then modify some of their memories."
"Finally, she will take all your records from the orphanage. It sounds complicated, but for Eulalie, it's nothing. She'll have it done quickly."
"By the way, she's also come to teach at Hogwarts this year, and she'll be teaching you Charms. Honestly, many people were surprised that she left Ilvermorny to come teach at Hogwarts."
Frank was still rambling on when the door of the orphanage suddenly opened.
Professor Hicks walked out, then gently closed the door behind her.
"All done, let's go," she said as she approached the carriage and called to Frank.
Frank nodded and jumped up to the driver's seat.
Professor Hicks opened the carriage door and climbed in.
She smiled at Wade and Tom. "Gentlemen, are you ready to start your new life?"
A moment later.
The carriage shot up into the sky and disappeared into the clouds.
...
The carriage flew through the air for a long time, and the sky had completely brightened.
Since the carriage was flying above the clouds, Wade was finally able to see the blue sky and sunshine after a long time.
At this point, the excitement from their first time flying had gradually settled into calm.
Tom began to ask Professor Hicks about various spells while reading a book.
Once Tom learned that Professor Hicks was the new Charms professor, he could no longer suppress his desire to become stronger.
Professor Hicks didn't refuse, but instead very seriously explained to Tom.
In fact, very few people could resist Tom's "charm," otherwise he wouldn't have been able to make every teacher and student in the school like him.
Wade didn't join in the conversation. He looked out at the blue sky and white clouds, then took out his disguised Complete Guide to Transfiguration from his pocket and continued reading.
It was hard to tell how much time had passed.
The jolt of the carriage landing brought Wade back to his senses from the book.
"Welcome to Godric's Hollow, children," Frank's voice came from the front of the carriage.
"Godric's Hollow is a half-wizard settlement. Many wizards live here, as well as a number of Muggles who are unaware of the truth. But this also shows that it's a very livable place."
Professor Hicks said this as she got out of the carriage, and Wade and Tom followed her out as well.
At this moment, the carriage had stopped in front of a house.
The house looked quite new, but many of the plants in the garden in front of the house were already withered.
It seemed that the house's owner hadn't lived here for quite some time.
Professor Hicks smiled and said, "This is the home of one of our Muggle friends in England. His name is Jacob Kowalski."
"They're planning to move from America to England for a while, and they should arrive the day after tomorrow. Until then, you'll be temporarily taken care of by them."
"Don't worry, Jacob and Queenie are both very good people."
Jacob Kowalski? If that's the case then his wife will also be here..
Wade immediately had a bad feeling. He remembered Jacob's wife, Queenie Goldstein—she was a powerful Legilimens!
Unlike Dumbledore, her ability to read minds was innate and passive, uncontrollable.
As long as you were near her, even if you didn't look into her eyes or face her directly, she could hear your thoughts...
In other words... if she were standing right in front of Wade right now, all his secrets would be laid bare!
Wade couldn't help but furrow his brow. Since his transmigration, this was the first time he truly felt a sense of crisis...
