All the mers believed that it was Ding Xuelan who had stolen the underpants that belonged to Xiao Zimo.
Even the women thought the same but they had no evidence and they knew that the Ding family was not easy to deal with so they did not do anything severe just gossiped a little in front of the Ding house.
Daddy Ding and Mother Ding would naturally not admit that Ding Xuelan did something so terrible and shameful. They immediately refused the words of the villagers and scolded them for bullying their family as if they were outsiders.

"Mother! Mother! What's wrong with you? Did I not just steal a duck? How many times I have done such a thing, so why are you beating me now?" Ding Xuelan was scared silly. Her mother had never beaten her like this before but now the woman was hitting her as if the two of them were mortal enemies.
"What did you say?" Mother Ding paused in her actions and looked at Ding Xuelan who was moaning and grimacing on the floor.
"I just stole a duck! Why are you hitting me?" Ding Xuelan screamed while letting Daddy Ding rub her back where her mother had kicked her again and again.
She raised her head and tipped her chin up before saying, "What's the problem? My sister doesn't let us eat meat, so I can only steal."
"You—— You went to steal a roasted duck?" Mother Ding questioned with a frown.
"What else did you think I went to steal?" Ding Xuelan questioned and Mother Ding became even more speechless. What a coincidence!
Her daughter could she be any more unlucky than this?
She sighed and threw the broom on the ground before saying, "There is a flower thief in the village."
"What about it——" Ding Xuelan began but she suddenly stiffened and raised her head to look at Mother Ding who nodded sympathetically at her daughter.
"What the fuck! Why would this old woman steal the underpants of mers? That's so icky! I am a thug, not a pervert!" Ding Xuelan was seriously offended. How in the world did she end up carrying this pot of blame on her head?
Arghhh! Now what was she going to do?
So wronged! She was so wronged!
