Chapter 6: Chapter Six - Horcrux Mission III
My birthday was only a day away. Dad and Mum had to leave the manor early, apparently, Dad had an important meeting and Mum had to go and visit some special colleagues.
But those special people were probably Death Eaters. In any case, they made things easy for me, I would go to Black's house first.
- "Number 12 Grimmauld Place!" - I took the flu. Thank goodness Mum has the open flu network between Malfoy Manor and Black's house.
Instantly I appeared in a dingy fireplace, I looked around the rest of the room, dingy and dirty, full of dust. I didn't like dirty places, maybe later I'll tell Cherry to clean the place.
I stepped out of the fireplace, took another step, and out of nowhere appeared a house elf. He was ugly, his face was bitter and old.
- "Who are you?" - What a tone.
- "Hello, I'm Draco. Son of Narcissa Malfoy."
- "Oh, you're mistress Narcissa's son," - The elf softened his voice, - "What have you come here for? We don't get many visitors."
- "I've come to collect something. But it's up to you whether you give me that or not," - The elf stiffened, - "I come here to take a locket. An item given to you by your late master, Regulus Black" - 'Thank you, Brandon, thank you for your obsession with Harry Potter.' - Kreacher made a pitiful face and his ears perked up with tension, - "It is important to me. Kreacher you must give it to me."
- "Why? What will you do with it? Master Regulus ordered me to destroy it but I have failed countless times, it is impossible to destroy it."
- "I know," - The elf was skeptical, - "I know how to destroy it, but to do so the pieces must be put together. Please Kreacher, you must give it to me."
- "How can I trust you, Mistress Narcissa's son? Mistress Narcissa is not kind to Kreacher, but she loved Master Regulus."
- "I know my mother is not kind, Kreacher. But believe me when I tell you that I know how to destroy that thing, but for that, I have to put all the pieces together."
The elf hesitated, and we stared at each other for a long moment until the elf turned away. I followed him, with a palpable tension in my shoulders. The elf led me to one of the rooms on the first floor. Kreacher moved some things into the room and then pulled out the Slytherin locket. My hands were sweaty, so I pulled the pouch out of my pocket and opened it for him to place it inside.
- "Kreacher doesn't trust him, Mistress Narcissa's son. But Kreacher feels that Mistress Narcissa's son is kind, like Master Regulus. Please destroy that thing, it was my master's last request."
- "I swear to you, Kreacher. I will destroy it and carry out my late uncle's last wish."
The elf's eyes were red, he looked like he wanted to cry. I stood up and gave him my handkerchief, the elf took it silently and wiped away his tears.
- "These days I will be sending my elf" - Kreacher looked at me - "this place is dirty and very dirty. It is a pity that a house, which is my late uncle's ancestral home, should be so badly kept. I hope you won't mind if I tell you that my elf will come to clean this house."
- "Master Draco wants to give maintenance to the Blackhouse" - The elf looked at me astonished - "Kreacher thinks that the master is very attentive, nobody comes to visit this house anymore and Kreacher can't clean this house alone."
- "So, you don't have a problem with me sending my elf?"
- "As long as Master Draco keeps his word, his elf can come and clean Master Regulus's home."
I nodded. I felt bad that I wasn't telling the whole truth, I was going to keep the locket until it was time to use it.
- "Kreacher," - I called to the elf before I left. - "Here..."
I had nothing but a simple gold chain around my neck. I wore it because it reminded me of the last present my little brother gave me.
- "Master, this is..." - The elf looked at me with astonishment.
- "A gift" - I said kindly - "I release you Kreacher, you are a good elf" - Kreacher for the first time smiled at me - "I am not your master, but it is up to you if you want to stay of your own free will or if you want to leave. It's your decision Kreacher. As for my elf..." - I sighed - "she can take care of the upkeep of the house. Goodbye, Kreacher."
- "Goodbye, Master Draco..."
I left the Black House and returned to Malfoy Manor. I summoned Cherry, my little elf and she instantly appeared. I asked her if my parents had arrived, and Cherry said no. That was a relief. That was a relief.
I went to my parent's room and took one of Dad's socks. I called Cherry and asked her to tell Dobby to come to my room.
- "The young master called me?" - Dobby appeared before my eyes.
My chest tightened, I had no hatred for the elf.
Analyzing the situation and future events I knew for my brother. The reason I felt anger towards the elf was out of fear, fear that he would give my father away.
Taking that cursed diary was the best thing I could have done, but I knew that sooner or later my father would notice the disappearance. I also believe that the reason he deliberately left that diary in Ginevra Weasley's hands was to free himself from Voldemort's dark object (that's what I wanted to believe).
- "Dobby, I release you," - I handed him the cloth. Dobby looked at me dumbfounded, - "But before you go, Dobby, you must promise never to say anything about the Malfoy family. Everything you saw, heard, or touched, absolutely nothing you must say. Agreed?" - The trembling elf took the oath.
- "Why did the young master release Dobby?" - Dobby's eyes became teary.
- "Don't ask for reasons, elf. I am not good but I am not bad either. It's my own decision, don't try to draw your conclusions because you're wrong about every one of them," - I said coldly, - "Just be free, do as you wish. Find another job or other masters but never talk about the Malfoy family. You must never say who your previous masters were! Do you understand?" - I said more forcefully. The elf nodded in fright - "Wait a moment."
Mother had given me some galleons, apparently, it was my allowance. As I had been getting every week, it was quite a lot. I took out about twenty galleons and put them in a little bag.
- "Here."
- "Young master, it's too much!" - Said the elf in a huff.
- "It's your compensation. For the time you worked for the Malfoy family. Do not refuse me this payment, it would be unfair to release you without giving you anything in return for your services."
Dobby took the coins, still frightened, and said goodbye with his head hung low. My heart throbbed with pain, I had never been surly with others, always kind and indifferent. Many had always called me naive or foolish, all for being kind.
When Dobby left I noticed my cheeks were wet, ahhh this was the reflection of my heart, all the tension I had been holding was being released through crying.
Cherry appeared out of nowhere. - "Young master. Mistress Narcissa is here" - Cherry looked into my wet eyes - "Little master whats wrong? Why is little master crying?"
- "It's nothing Cherry" - I blew my nose and wiped my tears. But my voice was already broken and the tears wouldn't stop - "Don't tell Mommy. Tell her I'm in the bathroom and I'll be right there."
- "But little master"
- "Please..."
I headed for the bathroom, it was at that moment that I couldn't hold it in any longer, I grabbed the hand towel, bit it, and screamed with my mouth closed as the tears flowed faster.
I dropped to the floor, leaning against the door. I cried and cried until my eyes hurt, only the beautiful memories that I lived with my two brothers were going through my mind.
This was not my life, I repeated. This was not my life but I was here nonetheless, and now I had to do the impossible to survive.
I got up from the floor, resting both my hands on the edge of the sink. I looked in the mirror, I looked like shit. My hair was messy, my eyes were swollen from crying, my face was pale and my lips were red with blood. I opened the shower and wet my face, I washed myself several times until my face was fresh.
A glamour spell was enough to cover the evidence of my crying. I didn't think it would come off easily, perhaps my efforts had already paid off. But I was not to be trusted.
I left my room and went to meet my mother.
- "Draco, darling" - Mother was on the balcony. She looked beautiful.
- "Mother, how did your meeting go?"
- "Quite well. And you, dragon. How are you?"
- "Well, I'm doing merits"
- "So eager to go to the muggle world" - Mother was perceptive. A sharp and astute woman - "It's strange that you're interested in going dragon."
- "You mentioned it sometimes. I don't think it's bad to see a bit of them."
- "Mmm..."
The rest of the afternoon passed normally. In the evening as usual we had a quiet dinner and then I went to my room to continue studying.
- "Mmm, I think I need to get a book on Occlumency."
The next day I woke up at ten in the morning. As I had already messed up my sleep schedule, waking up late, was usual for me. Cherry got me up and brought me a cup of green tea. I had asked her for the latter to prevent me from getting overweight.
- "Thank you, Cherry"
- "Does the master have another order?"
- "Yes" - I had told Kreacher that I would send Cherry to keep Grimmauld Place clean - "Cherry, do you remember I went to Grimmauld Place?"
- "Yes, Master."
- "Well, I spoke to House Elf of the Black Family and told him that I would send you there for a few days to help him clean up. I hope you don't mind."
- "Oh, no! The master has already given an order and Cherry will serve the master as he requests."
- "Good. Apart from that I wanted you to go to the library and get me some books on the advanced dark arts."
- "Dark arts!" - Said my elf startled - "Little master that's dangerous, why does the master want to read such dangerous books?"
- "I want to learn Occlumency, Cherry," - I explained, - "There are many people at Hogwarts who know Legermancy and Occlumency. And many of those people are enemies of my family" - I assured - "Please Cherry, do me this favor."
- "Cherry will help the master"
I went down to the dining room for breakfast. Pretty sure my parents had breakfast early, since I wake up late I don't see any of them in the dining room, so I tend to eat my breakfast alone. Tomorrow was my birthday, and we were going to the muggle world. I should write a list of things to buy for my birthday, I wasn't going to miss this opportunity. Lord of the Rings! I'm coming for you!
I finished my breakfast and ordered one of the elves to clean the toilets. I went up to my room to continue studying. How disciplined I am!
No, the truth is that I have nothing better to do. In my other life, I was a very carefree person, who hardly put any effort into my studies, it was only when I entered university that I began to study conscientiously. I noticed my stupidity of being lazy in my studies, if I had paid attention to my grades at school, maybe I wouldn't have taken so long to get into university.
Now that I am a child again and I am in a different world. I am aware that I should learn everything necessary to survive in this world, I had to give my family a happy ending.
During the month I was in this world, I realized that my father was not so bad. He was cold, yes, but every night he came to my room. I would pretend to be asleep so that he would leave, but he would stay for a while, stroking my head, sometimes hugging me, not saying anything or trying to wake me up, then he would leave and I would get up to continue studying.
I had already established a timetable, I knew what time he came back and what time he left. On Mondays, he would leave from seven in the morning until eight at night, come to my room at ten at night, stay for a while, and then leave. On Tuesdays, he would leave at noon and then come back at about eleven o'clock at night, come to my room at that time, and then leave. On Wednesdays he would leave at seven in the morning and come back at five in the afternoon, at night he would come to my room at nine o'clock and then leave. On Thursdays, he would leave at seven o'clock in the morning and come back at eleven o'clock at night, come to my room, and then leave. Fridays were the same as Thursdays.
Everything was scheduled unless he had a meeting.
My mother wasn't bad either, in fact, I think she's the one who worries the most about me. But because of my coldness and lack of socialism, she didn't ask about it and waited for me to talk about it. I was grateful for that.
The rest of the day was normal, Cherry brought me a book on advanced dark arts, I thanked her, and my elf left.
Before I started to study the book, I took out a piece of paper. I was going to write my gift list hehehehe
