Chapter 41: 41 This Isn't What I Expected
After a full meal, Hojou Kyousuke and Kisaki Tetta arrived at Tonyuki Park.
It was similar in layout to Hodoyama Park, with towering trees surrounding a grassy area.
Originally, this spot was a place for children to run wild and play freely, but now it had become the hangout for delinquent students.
They wore baggy pants and white shirts, some sitting cross-legged on the grass while others leaned against the trees.
The atmosphere was electric.
Why so electric?
Because at the center, Hanagaki Takemichi was curled up on the ground, taking a one-sided beating.
Those supporting him were shouting in anger, while the other side cheered on the attackers.
"Who's in charge here? What's your plan?"
At the edge of the crowd, Kyousuke stood with a sword bag in one hand and his other hand casually tucked into his pocket.
His eyes scanned the scene.
"Kiyomaza Masataka, member of the Kanto Manji Third Division," Kisaki Tetta replied.
"Kanto Manji? What's that?" Kyousuke casually asked.
"A judo club from a school in Shibuya, about a hundred members. Their leader's called 'Invincible Mikey,' and his special move is the 'Nuclear Kick.'"
Kisaki Tetta had gotten used to his leader's lack of delinquent knowledge, so he explained briefly.
He then glanced at Kiyomaza Masataka, who was orchestrating the fight from the front, and looked down at his own arms.
Hmm, no way he could take that guy on.
Kyousuke had asked what Kisaki planned to do, and Kisaki had initially thought about charging in like Hanagaki Takemichi had done, playing the hero.
But after comparing the strength of the two sides, he quickly reconsidered.
He remembered how Takemichi had ended up after trying to be the hero—getting beaten up badly.
He wasn't nearly as tough as Takemichi when it came to taking hits.
So, Kisaki turned to Kyousuke for help.
"Boss, it's all on you now!"
Even though he said that, inside, Kisaki was buzzing with excitement.
'I may be weak, but my boss is number one!'
"Alright, alright, I'll take care of it cleanly and quickly," Kyousuke said, ready to pull his bamboo sword from the bag.
"Wait, hold on! Boss, can you let me say a few words first, then you step in?" Kisaki Tetta said, a bit shy.
"Oh, I get it, you'll show off, and I'll do the real work. Got it! Today, I'll make sure you're Hanagaki Takemichi's hero!"
"Boss, thank you!" Kisaki's heart swelled with gratitude.
This big brother was a keeper.
Not only had he taught him how to win girls over, but now he was giving him face.
"Don't worry. Just give me a signal, and I'll rush in, cut them all down with two swift blows!"
Kyousuke gave a thumbs-up and flashed a wide, perfect smile, his teeth gleaming white.
[TL Note - Guy Sensei!]
"Got it!"
Kisaki nodded decisively, straightened his clothes, and confidently made his way through the crowd towards the center.
"Everyone, stop it!" Kisaki Tetta, dressed in a black school uniform, stood out among the delinquents in white shirts.
At his command, the beating of Hanagaki Takemichi stopped.
Kiyomaza Masataka and his crew turned their attention to him.
"Hey, what the hell do you think you're doing?" one of Kiyomaza's lackeys shouted as he stood up.
"Hanagaki Takemichi, are you alright?" Kisaki ignored the lackey and rushed to Hanagaki Takemichi's side, genuinely concerned.
"Kisaki Tetta?" Hanagaki Takemichi looked up, his swollen eyes barely able to focus.
It took him a moment to make out Kisaki's face.
"Yeah, ever since I heard about your situation, I've been really worried," Kisaki said, trying his best to sound sincere.
"Hey, are you ignoring me?!"
The lackey who had shouted earlier couldn't take being ignored.
He stormed over and kicked Kisaki Tetta to the ground before he could react.
Kisaki, caught off guard, was knocked down in an instant.
Furious at his hero image being crushed, he sprang up and yelled at Kiyomaza Masataka's crew, "You scumbags, do you know who I am?!"
As he said this, Kisaki noticed Kyousuke standing at the edge of the crowd, looking at him with the bamboo sword in hand.
This gave him the confidence to keep playing the part.
"I'm…"
Before he could finish his sentence, Kiyomaza Masataka, who had been sitting on the ground, suddenly leapt up and launched a powerful flying kick to Kisaki's face.
'My nose must be broken', Kisaki thought as he was sent flying backward.
Then he crash-landed on the ground.
'Oh no…"
Kyousuke, seeing Kisaki's pitiful state, realized the situation had backfired.
Now he was the one looking like a fool for trying to play hero.
He immediately leaped into action, pulling himself up a tree branch and using it as leverage to vault onto the heads of nearby delinquents.
In an instant, he was at the center of the chaos.
"Hey, hey, Kisaki, you okay?"
Kyousuke kicked Kisaki's arm, not wanting to use his hands because of all the blood covering Kisaki's face.
"Boss…" Kisaki muttered weakly.
His glasses were cracked, and one of his front teeth had fallen out.
"Sorry, it happened so suddenly, I didn't have time to…" Kyousuke awkwardly apologized.
"Hey, you two, what are you doing over there? Don't you know who we are?!"
Kiyomaza Masataka, still unaware that his time was up, shouted at them.
"Kisaki, I'll get revenge for you!" Kyousuke declared, and with that, he rushed at Kiyomaza Masataka, intending to go a little heavier this time to make up for his earlier mistake.
At his current strength, Kyousuke could easily handle a lackey like Kiyomaza Masataka without breaking a sweat.
But as the saying goes, If you can use a weapon, never fight barehanded.
Who knew how badly he could get hurt?
And medical care in Japan was expensive.
Kiyomaza Masataka hadn't seen Kyousuke's earlier move, but one of his lackeys had. He shouted,
"Watch out, Kiyomaza! That guy's no joke!"
Unfortunately, the warning came too late.
Kiyomaza was still trying to put up a defense when Kyousuke brought his sword down with lightning speed, landing a powerful blow to Kiyomaza's forehead.
Kiyomaza's eyes rolled back, and he crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
"What the hell..." one of the remaining delinquents muttered in disbelief.
"Did that just happen? He took down Kiyomaza with a single hit!"
"We need to get out of here before he comes after us!"
The onlookers started scattering, terrified.
"Redhead, call the boss and get some backup!"
The delinquent who had kicked Kisaki earlier shouted to another lackey in a red shirt, but before he could react, he took a sword strike to the forehead.
"Are you gonna focus when I'm around?" Kyousuke sneered, twirling his sword.
"Monster. Only Mikey can take him on. Get backup now!" Another delinquent shouted, but he too was taken down by a casual swipe from Kyousuke.
In less than a minute, everyone had fled, leaving only Kyousuke and Hanagaki Takemichi's friends behind.
The remaining lackey, Redhead, was trembling, holding his phone with shaking hands.
"Didn't they tell you to make the call? Hurry up, I've got homework to do."
"Oh, right…" Redhead stammered, too frightened to hold the phone properly, and it slipped from his hands.
"Seriously, can't you make this easier for me?" Kyousuke sighed, bending down to pick up the phone and handing it back to Redhead.
"Who do you need to call? I'll dial it for you."
"Oh, thank you," Redhead replied mechanically.
"Call the one labeled 'Captain.'"
"No problem, just get them here fast," Kyousuke said, scrolling through the contacts until he found the one with a fat man's profile picture and handed it back to Redhead.
