Chapter 40: 40 Kisaki Tetta’s Dream to Be a Superhero
Kisaki Tetta's situation wasn't really that complicated.
After hearing him out, Kyousuke quickly figured it out.
In simple terms, Kisaki was obsessed with the idea that the girl he liked fell for someone else because of a "heroic rescue," and he was too afraid to step up himself.
Unable to accept that he lost her due to his own cowardice, he convinced himself that it was something else entirely that made Tachibana Hinata fall for Hanagaki Takemichi.
Then, he tried to numb himself by trying to become a so-called "badass," putting in a lot of effort for no real reason.
"Kisaki, you wanted to become the top delinquent, so you came to me for advice, right?"
Kisaki didn't reply.
Now that his excuse had been stripped away, he was drowning in negative emotions, spiraling into self-doubt.
"Is this really how it is? It is, isn't it?"
"So am I going to lose Tachibana Hinata forever? Yes, I will."
"She likes the person who stood up to protect her when she was in danger, not me, the coward."
"I'm weak. I'm despicable."
...
"Regardless of what's happened, you're still my subordinate. So let me, as your boss, tell you why girls fall for someone."
Hearing that, Kisaki felt a spark of hope.
He looked up at Kyousuke, who was standing with the wind blowing his hair, smiling confidently, looking unbelievably handsome.
'If I could be as cool as that, maybe Tachibana Hinata wouldn't have fallen for someone else.'
The tiny flame of hope he had started to feel seemed to flicker out again.
"Hey, Kisaki, stop thinking crazy thoughts!" Kyousuke quickly interrupted, noticing the brief flash of light in Kisaki's eyes.
He felt pleased with himself for his emotional guidance skills, but then saw that light dull again.
"Boss, I bet you just rely on your face to get the girls, huh?"
Kisaki glared at Hojou's smiling face, which had once seemed like the face of someone reliable—someone who could become the strongest delinquent in all of Japan.
But now, all he could see was someone he couldn't stand.
"Of course not! Let me explain it slowly."
Kyousuke sat down, his hand on Kisaki's shoulder.
"Kisaki, if you know that Tachibana Hinata likes Hanagaki Takemichi because he was her 'hero,' then why don't you learn from that?" Kisaki's eyes widened instantly.
He felt a sudden jolt of excitement—an electric shock straight to his brain.
'Right, Tachibana Hinata likes Hanagaki Takemichi because he saved her. '
'So I can just go save her too, right? If once doesn't work, I'll do it ten times. Eventually, she'll come back to me.'
Why did I ever think about becoming the top delinquent?
"Boss, do you mean I should find a few people to pretend to be bad guys, scare Tachibana Hinata, and then save her like a hero?" Kisaki turned to Kyousuke, his eyes now burning with excitement.
'Slap!'
Kyousuke slapped his forehead. Kisaki was truly a born troublemaker; only the path of delinquency could bring out his true potential.
"Are you an idiot? Use your second-best brain and think for a second!"
"But isn't that what you meant?"
"Let me ask you, who does Tachibana Hinata like now?"
"Hanagaki Takemichi."
"Isn't Hanagaki Takemichi getting bullied by other delinquents?"
"Yeah, but what does that have to do with me?"
"Have you been a delinquent for so long that your brain rusted? Hanagaki Takemichi got himself into danger! That's your chance to be the hero!"
"Huh? Hanagaki Takemichi isn't the one I'm interested in! I like Tachibana Hinata!"
"Tachibana Hinata's hero is Hanagaki Takemichi. If you become his hero, then what does that make you to Tachibana Hinata?"
"A hero's hero?"
"Exactly. What do we call a hero's hero?"
"...?"
"A superhero!"
"A superhero?" Kisaki asked, confused.
"Yeah! Someone even greater than a hero—a superhero!"
"If Tachibana Hinata finds out that her hero was saved by you, her superhero, don't you think she'll start seeing you in a new light?"
"She definitely will!"
"And if you take Hanagaki Takemichi under your wing as a subordinate, don't you think Tachibana Hinata will admire you even more?"
Kisaki remembered back to the days when Tachibana Hinata used to look up to him at the study sessions, saying:
..........................................
"Kisaki-kun, you're first in the mock exams again, you're so amazing!"
He then imagined her face lighting up when she found out he saved Hanagaki Takemichi:
"Kisaki-kun, I didn't know you were so awesome even as a delinquent!"
.........................................
"Hehehe, hehehe..."
Kisaki grinned like a fool, lost in his happy fantasies.
"Kisaki, wake up! It's not time to daydream yet."
Perfect! The plan is working!
Kyousuke couldn't believe that his nonsense had successfully convinced Kisaki to fall for it.
He felt pretty proud of his emotional guidance abilities.
"Boss, let's go! As a superhero, I need to rescue Hanagaki Takemichi from those low-tier delinquents!" Kisaki's depression lifted in an instant.
He jumped to his feet, shouting with excitement.
"Are you an idiot? It's lunchtime right now. Didn't you say Hanagaki Takemichi and the others are going to get beaten up after school?"
"Oh, right. So, what do we do now? Should we gather some subordinates to join us after school?"
Kisaki scratched his head, his face now free of that previous unpleasant expression, replaced by something more cheerful.
"Do you know what makes a hero?"
"The more people you have, the more it just becomes an army."
"A few lackeys won't cut it. I'll go with you, it's fine." Kyousuke casually made up the excuse and then headed for his special reclining chair.
[TL Note - This guy is totally gonna stole her from him ....]
Being an emotional guide is exhausting. While there's still time, I should take a nap.
Seeing his boss's confident demeanor, Kisaki had a bunch of emotional questions he wanted to ask.
But seeing Kyousuke close his eyes, he knew that the man had a serious case of "morning mood," so he decided to sit quietly and think it over himself.
The afternoon flew by, and as expected, Hanagaki Takemichi and his friends didn't stick around for club activities.
Instead, they left school quickly, their faces dark and their steps hurried.
"Boss, let's follow them! They're hanging out at a park in Shibuya!" Kisaki eagerly suggested.
"Why the rush? Who knows how late it'll be today? Let's eat first. I'm not going home hungry again."
"But..."
"Don't you remember what Makki said? Girls don't like impatient guys. And heroes always show up last."
Kyousuke said casually, then hopped on his motorcycle.
"Kisaki, know any good restaurants?"
"There's one. A subordinate's family runs an Italian restaurant nearby." Kisaki also hopped on his bike.
"Italian? Sounds expensive, I'm broke."
"I'll pay. I still have plenty left from my scholarship. Think of it as your consultation fee, Boss."
"Kisaki, you really are a good guy!"
