Chapter 6: Chapter 6:The Path Ahead
Raven walked into the smoky corridors of the Order of Death, where shadows stuck to the stone walls like they were gossiping in hushed tones. The air felt thick with secrets and tension. His heart pounded as he got closer to Lysander. Raven clenched the intel from Lord Carl, knowing that every bit of it could shape his future.
"Lord Carl has trust me now and wants me to become his knight," Raven said, trying to sound calm even though he felt a mix of emotions inside.
Lysander burst into laughter, his voice filling the small room. "Carl's already in a tough spot," he said, leaning back in his chair.
Sorry, Raven, it's just that Carl is like a gambler taking one last risky bet.But remember—trusting him too much could be your downfall, so make use of this opportunity Raven, more people will focus on you and would want to bring you down."
Raven nodded slowly, taking in what Lysander said. Carl's confidence hides a riskier ally than I realized. As he turned to leave, the weight of expectations pressed down on him. I can't mess this up. My survival hinges on my strength and wits.
With steely resolve, Raven headed to the nearby forest, where the towering trees loomed above him, their branches tangled like the tricky political game he was caught up in. The air got cooler as he went deeper, the sound of rustling leaves creating an eerie backdrop.
I need to toughen up, he thought, thinking about the pressure from Carl's expectations.
Once he reached a secluded clearing, he inhaled deeply, focusing on what lay ahead. "Arise!"
The air buzzed with energy as a Skeleton sprang up from the ground, its empty eyes glowing with an unnatural light. Raven felt a thrill rush through him.
"Good day, master," it rasped, standing ready for orders.
"Take down any beast you can find," he commanded.
The skeleton hesitated for a split second, causing Raven's heart to race. Did he not make himself clear? "Go!" he insisted, this time with more authority. The skeleton took off into the underbrush.
Raven sat on a sturdy branch, as he watched the skeleton navigate the forest with impressive precision, swiftly taking down woodland creatures with ease. But a nagging feeling crept in; it occasionally paused, looking uncertain about what to do.
Hours passed as he trained his mind, carefully analyzing every thought. He felt proud of his skills, but a voice in the back of his head whispered, Am I losing control? He clenched his jaw, determined to master his powers.
An hour later, he felt that familiar sensation at the back of his mind. Blood Summoning Level 1 → Level 2. The message echoed in his head,
That's it, let me check the system
Suddenly, a low growl filled the clearing. Raven's heart raced as a huge shadow wolf stepped out of the forest, its eyes shining with hunger. The skeleton lunged at the wolf, but it was faster and pinned the skeleton to the ground.
"Arise!" Raven shouted, summoning another skeleton to help him.
This new skeleton jumped into the battle, and together they went after the wolf. The fight was intense, raw strength colliding with primal instincts. Raven felt the adrenaline as they battled.
After a tough battle, the wolf was finally defeated. Raven's heart raced, but he felt a sense of victory as he looked around.
With the wolf out of the way, he moved closer to the fallen creatures, ready to absorb their life energy. Activating Bloodcraft, he was surrounded by bright red energy that drew in their essence. Blood Pool: 0 → 500.
As that power flowed through him, a wave of guilt hit him hard. What's happening to me? Am I losing my humanity? He tried to push those thoughts aside, but with each summon, he worried he was becoming like the very beings he controlled.
With his Blood Pool filled and those thoughts weighing on him, Raven decided to summon more. "I'll take two spirits and a skeleton. Arise!"
In no time, three figures appeared: a large skeleton that was hard to miss, and two graceful spirits gliding through the dim light, glowing softly.
Raven stepped back, having a strange feeling mixed with power and responsibility. Unlike day I used to be intimidated by them, but now I am getting used to it
He snapped his fingers, and they vanished into thin air. Each summoning made him feel more in control, but still doubted it in his mind, what if they lost control?
Feeling good about his training, Raven headed back to the city. But as night fell, an uneasy feeling crept in. It felt like someone was watching him.
As he walked through the busy streets, that feeling grew stronger. Every time he looked back, he only saw crowds of people. Am I being followed?
Then he heard a voice cut through the crowd: "Raven!"
He turned around, his heart racing, and saw Cassius Valerius approaching with a mix of amusement and concern on his face.
"Your methods are annoying," Cassius said, crossing his arms. "Don't think you're untouchable just because you work for Lord Carl."
Raven met Cassius's gaze with sarcasm. "Well, if it isn't my favorite Vanguard."
"Stay alert, Raven. Carl's trust is like a double-edged sword—you'll be in trouble if you mess up."
Raven felt a surge of boldness."If you have something to say about Carl's plans, just say it. Unless you are jealous.
Cassius narrowed his eyes and turned to walk away, leaving behind a warning. "Raven don't say I didn't warn you."
Feeling alone again, Raven mixed irritation with curiosity. There's something Cassius knows, but that is not my problem.
Determined to move forward, he reached the port of the capital, where sailors shouted orders and merchants haggled in a lively atmosphere. He approached the dockmaster, excitement bubbling inside him.
"I need a ticket to Calonia," he said urgently.
"That'll cost you 30 Imperial Coins," the dockmaster replied, eyeing him closely.
Raven handed over the coins and watched as the dockmaster tucked them away with a greedy grin. He stepped onto the cruise ship., ready for the mission.
As he stood at the front of the ship, the cool sea breeze blew through his hair while he watched the capital from afar
Just as the ship moved away from the dock, Raven noticed a shadowy figure on the pier.
A man in a dark coat pulled tight against the wind, with his face covered by a hood. The man's eyes were fixed on Raven
"Who are you?" Raven asked, stepping closer to the figure
