Chapter 70
Chapter 60
The next morning, a figure suddenly descended from the sky and landed on the rooftop of the Sōbu High School building.
A super hero landed, causing cracks in the ground, which even made the staff shed tears seeing that.
Coming back to Chiba from Tokyo and changing clothes, Yukinoshita Yukino returned to her class just before being late with Lin Qi’s help.
Despite being a jujutsu sorcerer, she still had to attend classes and couldn’t afford to fall behind in her studies. She filled out the survey form for advancement.
When returning from a collaboration with Lin Qi and Satoru Gojo, Yukinoshika Yukino didn’t have to personally go out hunting for cursed spirits anymore. Instead, she waited for them to deliver commissions through Jujutsu Higher专科.
Commissions came occasionally, not daily.
The loyal Service Club welcomed its great minister.
Seeing Yukinoshika Yukino quietly reading in her seat, Hachiman Hikigaya cast her a resentful look.
Thanks to Yukinoshika, he experienced some intense, unsafe flying without any safety measures. At least he didn’t feel nauseous upon landing, unlike when Lin Qi carried him around.
“Good afternoon,” greeted Hachiman, then asked while Yui Yuigahama wasn’t there yet, “There shouldn’t be anything to do today, right?”
“There are no tasks from Jujutsu High Specialized for us now.” Yukinoshika replied.
“That’s good.”
Hachiman relaxed because after exhausting his curse energy in yesterday’s battle, he ended up sleeping straight through until the next day. Even homework was forgotten.
This earned him a reprimand from teacher Shizuka Hiratsuka.
He took out the assignment he needed to complete and started writing.
The assignment was an interest survey about an upcoming career exploration event organized by the school.
Filling out such surveys came easily to Hachiman. He began writing on the form without delay.
Aspiring Occupation: Professional househusband.
Location: Home.
Reasons:
As the saying goes, working means losing. Labor is an act of gaining rewards at the risk of something…
In less than ten minutes, Hachiman finished filling out the questionnaire and flicked the thin paper contentedly. Knowing Hiratsuka would fully understand his hopes for a future career and approve his application was reassuring.
Just then, the Servant Club’s door opened. Yui Yuigahama walked in looking distressed, checking her phone and even without her usual greeting style, indicating she must face a serious issue.
However, a blond guy following her was received with mixed reactions.
“Oh, why is Hayama Hayato trailing along?” Hachiman showed obvious revulsion, “Why would someone who seems like a full-blown socialite need help with their problems?”
“Eerr…I overheard that,” Hayama said awkwardly.
“Oops, forgot I was thinking out loud. Sorry,” Hachiman turned away, not apologetic at all.
“You’re making things more embarrassing…”
The smile on the golden, sunny young man almost faltered.
Hmm, this has to be Hayama?
“Yuigahama-san, what’s wrong?” Yukinoshika ignored him, asking Yuigahama.
“This…” Yuigahama displayed her phone, “Strange rumors are spreading among our classmates.”
“These details involve Kaboragi as a delinquent in Inage, fighting students from Nishio high at the arcade; Yamato as a shameless cad, stepping on three boats; and Ooka using violent moves against opponents’ ace…” Yukinoshika read aloud, “…this is a chain message.”
“This is what brings me here.” Hayama also showed his phone, indicating he received a similar message, “Teacher Hiratsuka said if one faces troubles, they should ask you.”
No thanks!
The parasite within Yukinoshika’s mind began clamoring, but because of a particular reason, she chose to ignore it momentarily.
“Receiving such messages made everyone gloomy, plus hearing anyone say unpleasant things about friends upsets me greatly.” Hayama frowned, but then quickly recovered, “However, my goal isn’t to find the culprit directly, but to resolve the situation peacefully.”
With a kind smile and sincere tone, he asked, “Can you aid me with this?”
Yukinoshika wondered about Hayama’s ulterior motives upon hearing his words.
“So, do you know who the criminal is?”
He hesitated, “Uerrr…if I knew, I wouldn’t need to seek your help.”
“In that case, do you know why this happened?” Yukinoshika followed up.
“…,” He looked uncertain, then denied, “I don’t know.”
“Alright,” Yukinoshika examined his expression flatly and turned back to her book, “You may return now, Hayama-san.”
“Guest, after you,” Hachiman quickly approached the door, taking on the posture of guiding guests out.
“Huh? Why dismiss me so quickly?” Hayama’s emotions changed twice in such a short time.
“In cases involving crime, keeping concealed information to oneself essentially makes them complicit. You might even be the culprit.” Yukinoshika bluntly stated.
Hachiman silently moved behind Hayama, hands on his shoulders. From the servant persona, he transformed into a subordinate officer; ready to follow Yukinoshika’s commands to apprehend Hayama.
After witnessing Yukinoshika’s abilities firsthand, Hachiman resolved to remain a loyal follower to the esteemed service club president.
“I see, okay, okay, I will speak!” Sensing the dead fish eyes staring from behind and the pressure on his shoulders, Hayama immediately raised his hands in a French military salute.
“Maybe it’s because of the visits to various workplaces? That’s genuinely all I know!”
Facing Yukinoshika’s scrutinizing gaze, he quickly defended.
“Oh, I get it, it’s a group assignment,” Yuigahama realized.
“Group assignment? How come!?” Hachiman exclaimed, alarmed, “I wouldn’t let classmates visit my home!”
“What did you fill in your form again?”
“Househusband.”
“Are you insane…?”
Interrupting their conversation, Yukinoshika calmly explained, “Somebody is sending these defamatory chain messages to form discord between you and Hayama-san, most likely wanting to create disunity.”
“The culprit could also be among Kaboragi, Yamato, or Ooka,” Hachiman added.
“Wait a moment!” Hayama urged them to stop speculating further, “Why is it turning into this? Those three are my friends, unlikely to be behind this.”
“And besides, they suffered in this incident, how could they be the culprits?” replied Hachiman cross-armed.
“But making themselves appear as victims is a common tactic of criminals.”
“And if it were me, I’d deliberately leave one out as a scapegoat.”
The pink-haired girl gave him a reproachful look, “Hachi, you’re gloomy.”
“Call me a clever criminal then,” smirking confidently.
“Now your entire classmates close to Hayama-san become suspects.” Closing her eyes, resting her chin on her hand, she seemed thoughtful but in fact delved into Lin Qi’s realm of birth.
“Parasitic bug, any method to catch the culprit?” she looked at the black-hair boy on the Buddhist shrine.
“Torture him.” Lin Qi lay on a roof, picking his nose.
“Find a better approach.” Yukinoshika scolded him, “And remember to maintain your appearance.”
The moment Lin Qi pulled her into this realm, she got a clear view of him.
Claiming himself living a thousand years ago, he looked surprisingly youthful, roughly her age.
Soft hair framed a striking face with intricate black patterns, eyes deep and pupils sharp red like polished garnet, crystal-like. Dressed in a white traditional female garment that suited his slender figure.
At first glimpse, Yukinoshika was impressed.
Such a handsome man casually picking nose was wasteful beauty.
“Who could tell anyway?”
Lin Qi flicked his fingers towards Yukinoshika, she flinched and dodged—no substance to worry about in soul form.
“Finding culprits directly is unrealistic as I am a jujutsu sorcerer, not a detective.”
“Still, an unusual approach exists.” Lin Qi explained, “Remember, during our first training session, I cut off someone’s hand to teach controlling curse ability.”
“How could I forget, cutting off someone’s entire hand.” Remembering that, Yukinoshika found his teaching highly illogical.
“That was a method, the objective was?”
“To bring out negative feelings, enhancing curse sense…”
Yukinoshika spoke slowly, nearly grasping the fleeting insight but slipping away.
“Stupid,” Lin Qi pointed.
A blue vein popped on her forehead, but needing his help, she couldn’t avoid the humiliation, “Please, explain.”
“Key is negative feelings,” Lin Qi explained, “Humans can barely sense very faint curse power. Large emotional changes enable easier detection.”
“If you subject suspects to torture…”
“In other words, confront the trio individually, observe reactions directly for results, bypass reasoning.” Yukinoshika realized.
“Exactly, if they’re guilty, they will react anxiously showing strong emotion.”
“I see.”
Yukinoshika thanked him after receiving guidance and swiftly left the area.
“So, torturing…”
Everyone watched Yukinoshika suddenly close her eyes, Hayama and Yuigahama thought she was reflecting. Only Hachiman knew she sought help from true mastermind, Lin Qi.
Even if Yukinoshika began deductions while seemingly asleep, he wouldn’t be surprised.
Sure enough…
A moment later, Yukinoshika’s eyes opened and she declared, “I already know how to discover the perpetrator.”
“Wow, that fast!” the girl admired.
“So, how do we find out?” Hayama asked.
“After school, call each of them here alone for a talk.” Yukinoshika smiled confidently.
“The rest will become evident.”
…
After school, becoming a jujutsu sorcerer:
