Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Gifts, Shape-Memory Armor
Time passed.
The duels on the deserted island continued without pause.
Aside from the fifth child, Medusa—who was absent—the sixth child, Eden; the seventh, Frey; the eighth, Ares; the ninth, Hyde; and the tenth, Athena, each took the field in turn. This went on until late afternoon, when the practical trials finally came to an end.
Among them, twelve-year-old Ares—the eighth child—displayed an astonishing performance. As someone who had perfectly inherited the two monstrous bloodlines of the Kukulkan family, his showing amazed everyone present.
This was especially true for Linlin, Gerd, Hajrudin, Streusen, Griffin Moss, and others who had joined the Fallen Angel Pirates early on to follow El. Ares possessed not only iron-hard skin impervious to blades and bullets and enormous physical strength but also inherited the Lunarian race's unique immunity to damage. On top of all that, he had the Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Zoan: Azure Dragon form—a top-tier power that practically made him immortal, akin to an incarnation of El's younger self.
Granted, because of his youth, his strength remained marginally behind that of his three monstrous older siblings—Thor, Sif, and Dal, who were already seventeen. But his feats were in no way inferior to Willie's, Eden's, Frey's, and the others', a performance that was nothing short of spectacular.
"Oooooh, so impressive!"
"The power of these Highnesses is simply unbelievable!"
Gathered from all directions—Hajrudin, Griffin Moss, Shimotsuki Ushimaru, Thunder Calamity Oka, Wind Calamity Irene, and many others—couldn't help voicing their awe. One by one, they expressed both surprise and delight, thrilled by the tremendous potential these members of the Kukulkan family had revealed. If all these young princes and princesses continued to grow at this rate, it wouldn't be long before Totto Land could challenge the World Government head-on. Then Totto Land could supplant it and become the unchallenged ruler of the seas.
Afterwards, the giant airborne fortress Atlantis carried these core officers of the Fallen Angel Pirates, along with the cheering youngsters, back toward the Totto Land waters.
"Dad, you said earlier that if I beat Uncle Oka, you'd give me a present…" Thor hurried to El's side with an expectant look. "What is it?"
He still had his "Hammer of Thunder" strapped to his back, the gift El had bestowed upon him for his seventeenth birthday. Thor was certain his father's promised present now wouldn't be any less impressive.
"Why the rush?"
El folded his arms, smiling. "You'll see once we get home!"
He was quite pleased with his eldest son's performance—indeed, with the progress of each of his children. None had slackened in their training. Of course, it was unrealistic to hope that every child could match the talents of Thor, Sif, or Dal.
"Dad, you're so biased!"
Sif pouted, clearly displeased.
"You're pouting so hard, you could hang a bottle of soy sauce on your lip. This gift isn't just for Thor—you'll get one, too!" El teased his tall, bright, and striking eldest daughter, who resembled Gerd in appearance. "But not for kids under ten. You'll have to wait until you're older."
"For real?"
Not only Sif, but also Willie, Eden, Frey, Ares, and the others widened their eyes in pleasant surprise. Meanwhile, the newly turned nine-year-old Arcas (the eleventh child) and the younger kids looked crestfallen, pouting and clinging to their mothers in frustration.
"That's awesome! I knew you were the best, Dad!"
Tall, sixteen-meter Eden bounded forward, scooped the nearly nine-meter El right into a hug, and smacked loud kisses on his cheek. "Mwah, mwah!"
"All right, that's enough…" El wiped his face helplessly. "You're way too big for such antics."
"Heehee, so what's the present, Dad…?" Eden asked, eyes shining with curiosity.
"It's a secret for now," El replied with a wink.
"Mamamama, you little ones are definitely going to love it," Linlin added with a smile.
Hearing even Mama Linlin say so, the teenagers grew even more intrigued and excited.
Late that night, Atlantis returned to Totto Land.
Because it was already dark, Moss, Afar, Oka, Hajrudin, and the rest—still buzzing with excitement—chose to stay overnight on Atlantis. There were already rooms in the massive fortress for core officers like them. The night passed uneventfully.
Early the next morning, after a delicious breakfast prepared by Streusen the head chef, the officers went about their business. Meanwhile, Thor, Sif, and Dal waited in anticipation, as El led them to a massive undersea research base.
The colossal sci-fi-like facility was patrolled by robots, Pacifista-like units, and heavily armed guards. This was nothing new to the Kukulkan siblings—they'd seen it all before.
Under the guidance of Ryan, they eventually arrived at a large lab. Their eyes widened at what they saw: rows of containers of various sizes and colors, each labeled with different codes. Some were so large they dwarfed an ordinary adult human; others were only slightly bigger than a common soda can.
"Huh?"
"What are these…?"
"They look like… soda cans? But not really…"
Thor, Sif, Eden, and the others stared in bewilderment.
"Heh, dear Highnesses, these are definitely not soda cans…" Ryan, one of the chief scientists, explained with a chuckle. "These are the newest invention of our research team: Shape-Memory Armor—basically a cutting-edge Combat Suit!"
"Yes, that's right—the sort of thing you see in sci-fi magazines, where you go bzzt and transform!"
"A combat suit?"
"Shape-Memory Armor?"
"Transform? Really?"
Hearing that, Thor, Sif, and Dal all gasped, eyes going wide with excitement. They hurried over to take a closer look.
"Care to try?"
El, his tall frame towering over them, walked up and grabbed a canister about two meters high, painted in shades of blue with a lightning insignia, plus the label "01." He tossed it to Thor, who was over twenty meters tall, about the size of a giant warrior.
"Huh?" Thor caught the cylinder—fairly heavy, though negligible to him—and carefully inspected it. He noticed a button on top, where a normal can's pop-tab would be. Without thinking, he pressed it.
Whoosh—
Before everyone's astonished eyes, the can flashed brilliantly, turning into a fluid substance that wrapped itself around Thor. Instantly, it took shape as a sleek, striking blue combat suit. Gauntlets, boots, shirt, a cape—each piece materialized in turn, covering Thor's entire body. His massive figure was now clad in a two-tone blue-and-black suit, complete with a flowing blue cape emblazoned with a prominent "1" and a bold lightning symbol. Add his dark wings and blazing flames behind his head, and the effect was beyond impressive. The Kukulkan siblings watching had stars in their eyes.
"That's so cool!!!"
