Chapter 7 - First shooting
Episode 7_
First shooting
Yeo-Jun Yoo received a hot script from Seung-Geon Ko.
“and.”
“You like it that much?”
Ko Seung-geon smiled at the child who couldn’t take his eyes off the script with sparkling eyes. Then he opened the script and highlighted the parts that Yeo Woo-jun would be playing.
These days, some people carry around electronic script files on their tablet PCs, but Yeo Woo-jun insisted on requesting a book script.
“This is my first script.”
The power of ‘My Script’ was tremendous. It felt like the innocent dream that Park Sung-hyun had before falling into an infinite regression was coming back to life.
In his last N lives, he played the role of Ko Seung-geon. He had to cast a darker shadow behind the stars so that they could shine.
“Can you memorize the script well?”
“It’s not difficult to memorize.”
“Really? You’re smart. If you have any questions, ask me.”
“yes.”
Well, he was a guy who memorized the script that was given to him for testing in no time… … Go Seung-geon figured out that Yeo Woo-jun had an independent personality, so he left him to freely analyze the script.
‘Let’s see… … .’
The title of the work is [Mind].
It’s a typical investigative drama with a genius profiler hiding a secret and a detective who gets entangled with him as the two main characters, but they made the bold choice of using child actors as the criminals that appear in episodes 1 and 2.
‘Young psychopath… … .’
I can see why they put so much effort into finding child actors. Probably to make a strong impression in the beginning.
‘If you’re a psychopath, I know you well.’
<
‘You, you.’
You suddenly put me on an endless loop of regression.
SS grumbled as if it was absurd, but did not deny it. There must be a corner that is prickly.
‘Hey. I’m going to be starring in my first production soon. Do you have any bonus points ready?’
<
‘So, are you leaving my life up to me?’
<
SS forcibly closed the message window because he felt bad about being called a psychopath. What a jerk.
Yeo-Jun sighed and turned on the laptop he borrowed from the company. Then he searched for information about the drama.
[Mind] is said to be one of the most anticipated works of the second half of 2016, directed by writer Lee Kyo-eun, known as the queen of genre detective dramas, and director Kwon Sung-oh, who is well-received for his sophisticated directing in the film industry.
‘Is it good?’
Looking at the cast, they were quite well known and their acting skills were good.
I thought it would be best to make the best impression here.
‘Then you’ll get a lot of work.’
Although it was a box office flop and received terrible reviews, surprisingly, there were quite a few love calls coming in after seeing the actors’ performances in the film.
Especially since it’s a highly anticipated piece like this, there will be a lot of eyes watching, so you have to make a deep impression rather than just treat it as a minor role.
“What are you thinking about?”
“How can I get the director to look at me favorably?”
‘He must have a lot of connections if he’s a famous director. Can’t you please take good care of me and give me some work using your connections?’ The meaning was something like that, but Ko Seung-geon was momentarily silent at the child’s unexpected answer.
‘Do you have a need for recognition? Or is it a lack of affection?’
Since Ko Seung-geon had promised Choi Hae-na that he would take good care of Yeo Woo-jun, it was only natural that he would be concerned.
(You can tell just by looking at her, but she’s a little bit cute. What’s that vibe like? That can’t be created even with plastic surgery.)
(Plus, I liked it even more because he asked if I was being casted as soon as he saw my business card. But later I found out that the child lived in an orphanage.)
(That’s why I asked casually. Not all children living in orphanages are orphans. They might have relatives who took care of them for a while. There are a lot of kids like that these days.)
(But… he said he really doesn’t have anyone.)
Ko Seung-geon thought over the information about Yeo Woo-jun that he had heard from Choi Hae-na. How should he treat that child?
‘It looks strangely desperate.’
The reason I was able to receive the script for [Mind] was because I heard what our staff had to say.
There are some guys who are clear about what they want to do at a young age, but Yeo-Jun was similar to them, but also different.
What should I call this… … Yes, it is desperation.
“Is there anything difficult?”
“Yes, it’s okay.”
Often, child actors were encouraged to act by their parents, saw it as a short-term childhood hobby, or a strategic choice for college admission.
‘And seeing you treat the script with such care… … .’
There are very few guys at that age who seriously consider becoming actors.
Besides, Yeo-Jun Woo was able to live comfortably as an idol trainee for several years with the company’s support.
Even if you don’t make it into the debut group, they won’t charge you any trainee fees and will even transfer you to another company.
Even though he knew all that, Yeo-Jun wanted to start his social life early.
“If you want to use a young me for a role that only appears briefly in the beginning, you must want something strong from my role, right?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Actually, the psychopaths created by the media are exaggerated. They are far from reality, but I have to act accordingly, right? More provocatively. But if I do it too much, I feel like I’ll be blown away… … .”
Yeo-Jun’s words were closer to a monologue than a question. And Go Seung-Geon opened his eyes wide.
‘You figured it all out in this short time? Without even being taught separately?’
It hasn’t even been 10 minutes since Yeo-Jun looked through the script. He’s already analyzing what kind of image the writer wants from the script and thinking about how to build the character to fit that.
I’ve felt this before, but this isn’t something you’re born with…
‘What will it be like on site?’
Ko Seung-geon was curious about the character this child would create.
.
.
.
Since they skipped the reading and went straight into filming, there wasn’t much time to practice acting. But Yeo-Jun wasn’t anxious.
‘How much time have I lived?’
That’s a total of N years. And the role itself wasn’t a difficult one to digest.
It would have been more difficult if I had played the role of an ordinary child.
“Everyone is here. Let’s get off.”
“yes!”
Yeo-Jun Yeo took a deep breath when he arrived at the filming set, and then exhaled. Even though the world had changed, the busy atmosphere of the filming set was no different here or there.
“Is this your first time on set, Woojun? Are you feeling like you’re back home?”
“I just like it.”
Go Seung-geon, who was looking at the laughing child, laughed heartily.
Is this the kid who’s just starting his first shoot? It’s like he was born to be an actor.
At that moment, a staff member passing by discovered the two people.
“Hello?”
“Hello. I am a child actor staff member.”
“Oh! You’re here early? Come here.”
The staff member glanced down as they guided the two. I’ve seen a lot of child actors, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone like this.
It looks like we’re meeting for the first time, so you’re definitely a rookie, but why do you look like that? I was looking forward to seeing you grow up.
‘This world is a bustling place for production.’
Yeo-Jun Yeo looked around the filming set as if he didn’t feel the staff’s gaze.
During Park Sung-hyun’s time, content production was in decline.
With the prices of goods and appearance fees rising, shallow works that were created by roughly copying successful works without bold investments were popular.
How much effort did I put into getting my actor to the top of the pyramid among actors who were well-suited to the work if they were close to investors?
In the end, I became an investor and swung everything.
‘I want to try various works.’
Rather than just throwing money at a project that will be successful, I became an actor.
The content business here is more active than in the other world. Since I am born with a good body and the overall flow is good, I just have to do well.
“Hello, Director. This is Legacy’s Ko Seung-geon.”
“Ah! Legacy! Hello.”
Director Kwon Seong-oh, who was giving instructions to the staff, greeted Ko Seung-geon. He looked at the business card, put it in his pocket, and looked for someone.
“Is the child here?”
“Hello! My name is Yeo Jun! Please take care of me!”
Yeo-Jun Yeo jumped out from behind Seung-Geon Ko and bent his waist. Even the staff who were preparing stopped and looked at the child.
“Oh my, your voice is nice. You’re not going to be a military brat, are you?”
“Absolutely not. He is so polite that I don’t even have to teach him.”
Ko Seung-geon did not panic, but rather looked at Yeo Woo-jun as if he was proud of her. Director Kwon Seong-oh stroked his chin as if he was looking at an elaborate work of art and looked at Yeo Woo-jun.
“Well, the screen doesn’t capture the real thing.”
“Thank you! What is your name, director?”
“Oh, no. Didn’t I even introduce myself? My name is Kwon Seong-oh.”
Kwon Sung-oh’s eyes lit up. With a face like this, even if his acting skills are not that great, he will still be a hot topic from the beginning.
However, Kwon Seong-oh couldn’t hide his worry at the same time.
Acting that is planned and prepared in the practice room is different from what happens on site. Looking at your resume, it looks clean… … .
“Hey, thanks to Woo-jun, our drama will be a hot topic. Um… … You didn’t even prepare anything for it, right?”
“yes.”
“Good. My bangs are a bit stuffy. Should I just touch up my hair a little? Is that okay?”
“yes.”
Soon, director Kwon Seong-oh called the staff and had them take Yeo Woo-jun to the powder room.
“I’ve heard of your name, Director Ko. He’s famous among the production staff. Is that why you’re so good to the actors?”
“… … Are you sure that’s a compliment?”
“Halfway. So, that acting in the video. How many days did you watch it for? How much training did you give it?”
The director nodded. The powder room door was open, so he could see Yeo-Jun getting her hair dried.
“What do you think?”
“Are you joking already? Hmm, but wouldn’t it have taken about three days to act that well?”
Ko Seung-geon smiled meaningfully and made the number 3 with his fingers.
“That’s right. Did I get it right?”
“Three minutes.”
“yes?”
“We gave Woojun a practice script to try out because he wanted to act without any plan. If you watch the video, you can tell it was shot in a hurry, right?”
“no…….”
The director shook his head in disbelief.
In the video, Yeo-Jun Yoo’s acting was like that of a really tired 30-year-old office worker. There was no part that was funny at all about a child imitating an adult.
“Hey, that can’t be.”
Ko Seung-geon just smiled silently. The director frowned at that. This guy can’t be joking with me.
“really?”
“yes.”
“Then, can I go in right away without looking at the director?”
“Yes, you may do that.”
In fact, Ko Seung-geon was also curious about how far Yeo Woo-jun could go. How would he react in an emergency situation?
“That sounds fun.”
A familiar voice was heard from behind the two people.
“Sung-Seong, are you here?”
“Yes, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but I found the content interesting.”
It was Min Seong-in, the lead actor of [Mind].
“Chief Ko. It’s been a while. Is there still a spot for me at One Actors?”
“If you are of good character, you are always welcome.”
It’s not an empty promise. Ko Seung-geon is a capable director, and Min Seong-ui is an actor who has everything he needs: face, personality, and skills.
Yeo-Jun, who had just finished drying her hair, came out of the powder room.
“Are you two talking about that kid? Wow, he’s handsome. Where did he work as a kid model?”
“No. This is my first time on this site.”
“Hmm, really?”
Minseong looked at director Kwon Seong-oh. It was the first time he had seen the director be flustered by a child’s acting.
“Hyung, can I join in too? I’ll just add a little seasoning.”
“Oh, hey. Wait a minute, Seong-ui. Don’t do that.”
“Hey, did I do something bad?”
“Do it in moderation!”
What you’re doing is too much, that’s the problem!
Minseong approached Yeojujun without the director even giving him a chance to stop him.
“Something happened.”
Seong-Oh Kwon, who was watching the scene, touched his temple as if he had a headache.
