Superman in Marvel: Multiverse Ascendant

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Frozen Base

"Refuse for now and tell him I'm busy. If he wants revenge, he can fly west and find the Ten Rings in other areas."

Leon flew toward the nearest U.S. military garrison in Afghanistan.

There were seven such bases in and around the region.

In the coming years, that number would expand to nineteen.

For a small, war-torn country, such a heavy military presence made it clear that the U.S. had far-reaching ambitions.

Originally, Leon only intended to wipe out the Ten Rings and leave the rest for another time.

But after meeting that little girl earlier in the night, he changed his mind.

Since he was here already, he might as well do something meaningful.

Although the U.S. military in the Marvel Universe wasn't exactly like the one in his past life, Leon still felt the urge to clip the eagle's talons.

As he descended over the base, air raid sirens blared across the compound.

These well-trained soldiers were far more vigilant than any terrorist organization.

Before Leon could make a move, floodlights locked onto him, and machine guns took aim.

A stern voice crackled through the base's loudspeakers:

"Intruder, land immediately! Stay where you are! Failure to comply will result in immediate engagement!"

The rigid tone, the rapid troop deployment, and the perfectly synchronized weaponry—all of it made Leon scoff.

Negotiation was never an option.

Against a pack of wolves, the only language that mattered was strength.

Leon inhaled deeply and exhaled a frigid breath.

A howling gust of icy wind swept across the base.

Instantly, frost spread over every building, ammunition stockpile, and vehicle, encasing them in thick layers of crystalline ice.

Even the soldiers in their barracks were caught in the freeze, their bodies rapidly stiffening as they turned into ice-covered statues.

The entire garrison became a frozen fortress, like something out of a fairy tale.

Leon surveyed his work, nodded in satisfaction, and then clenched his fist.

He drove it lightly against a building's wall.

"Crack! Crack!"

Hairline fractures spread like spiderwebs, racing across the structure.

Then, like a house of cards, the base began to collapse.

The extreme cold had rendered the materials brittle, and the slightest shock sent the entire compound tumbling down.

One by one, buildings crumbled in a spectacular cascade of destruction.

The sound wasn't the usual dull rumble of demolition—it was sharp, almost melodic, like glass shattering under pressure.

When the dust settled, the once-imposing military base was reduced to rubble.

Moonlight reflected off jagged ice shards, creating an eerie yet beautiful glow.

Leon landed, his boots crunching against the frozen remains.

In front of him, the only thing left standing were the soldiers.

Thousands of them, frozen but alive.

Leon had been precise.

He had destroyed all infrastructure, weapons, and ammunition, but he hadn't taken any lives.

Even the internal injuries he left were carefully calibrated—a warning rather than a death sentence.

"You're asking for trouble."

His eyes glowed red, releasing controlled heat vision.

Instead of incinerating them, he adjusted the temperature to gradually thaw them out.

The soldiers gasped as they regained mobility.

"C-Cold… so cold!"

"Is… is he Superman?! Superman actually exists?!"

"Did we just pick a fight with Superman!?"

The moment they could move again, most dropped to the ground, shivering violently, rubbing their arms or huddling together for warmth.

Even the ranking officers with their polished insignia remained silent, too afraid to speak.

Leon let them shiver for a moment before delivering his warning:

"I'll keep this simple. Withdraw from Asia within a week, or I'll return. Don't say I didn't warn you."

The ice beneath his feet shimmered under the moonlight, casting an ethereal blue glow.

To the soldiers, he wasn't just a man—he was a force of nature, a blade of frozen steel poised above their heads.

Nobody dared to answer.

Leon didn't wait for one.

With a powerful leap, he took off, vanishing into the night sky.

The enlisted men and mid-level officers had no authority to decide troop withdrawal.

To ensure his message was truly received, he needed to make the U.S. military hesitate.

And to end the conflict for good… he'd have to deal with Hydra and, eventually, prove himself against a nuclear strike.

"Next target: 26 kilometers east. I'll handle it in under a minute."

Leon accelerated, his body a streak in the dark sky.

His destruction of the first base had been thorough, but in reality, from his arrival to departure, only three minutes had passed.

His goal was simple—eliminate all seven bases before the satellites above could fully react.

That's right.

In the last hour, the number of satellites monitoring him had increased.

First, the U.S. had repositioned two high-precision ones.

Then, China deployed its own to keep an eye on things.

Soon, the other major powers followed suit, each sending their own surveillance equipment.

Now, five nations had satellites practically stacked atop each other, watching him as if holding an emergency summit in orbit.

Leon didn't mind.

If anything, he welcomed it.

The more eyes on him, the better.

Let the world see exactly how he dealt with the so-called superpower's bases.

Meanwhile, Tony Stark was still en route.

"Jarvis, why the hell is Leon ignoring my calls and going after military bases alone?"

As he streaked through the sky in his suit, he vented his frustration to his AI.

"Sir, do you mean to imply you were also planning an attack on U.S. forces?" Jarvis asked.

"Attack? No, that's not the right word. I'd say… helping them manage their surplus ammunition."

"I see. You wish to destroy their firepower and push them out of the region, much like Master Leon."

"Wait, that's his plan?" Tony scoffed. "He always steals my ideas."

"Sir, you originally planned to confront them regarding their unauthorized sale of Jericho missiles to the Ten Rings. What do you think Master Leon's reasoning is?"

Tony clicked his tongue.

He hated it when Jarvis had a point.
