Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Leon's Departure, Revisiting the Isle of Armor
"So, what are your plans next?" Leon asked.
Su Yi pondered for a moment, organizing his thoughts before replying, "I might stay on the Isle of Armor for a while. I want to capture some Pokémon that will help in my adventure, and at the same time, find a caretaker to hatch this little one."
As he spoke, Su Yi carefully took out a Fire Dragon Egg from his backpack.
"Oh? That's a big egg. Is it a Pokémon from your region?" Leon asked with interest.
Su Yi nodded and said, "It's a Fire Dragon Egg."
"You have Charizards in your region too?" Leon asked curiously.
Su Yi scratched his head and explained, "Not Charizard—just Fire Dragon. However, due to gender differences, male and female Fire Dragons have distinct appearances and battle styles."
"Oh? I'm really curious about what kind of Pokémon they are. By the way, do you have a lot of Pokémon in your region that we don't have here?" Leon asked.
Su Yi thought to himself: All of them are ones you've never seen before.
"That place is both thrilling and amazing," Su Yi simply said.
"That sounds wonderful, being able to experience the different landscapes and cultures of two regions." Leon sighed with envy.
"If there's a chance, take me to your homeland one day."
Su Yi was momentarily stunned before sighing inwardly: That… is a big unknown.
The Next Morning
Leon mounted his Charizard and bid farewell to everyone.
"Su Yi, if you finish your business, come find me in Wyndon. I can help you with things like identity registration and documentation."
At that moment, Su Yi was reminded that he was still an undocumented resident in this world.
Without an identity, navigating modern cities would be troublesome. But with Leon, the Champion, offering help, a lot of difficulties could be avoided.
"I truly appreciate it. I'll trouble you when the time comes." Su Yi expressed his gratitude.
"No need to be so formal. Wishing you a smooth journey!" Leon tipped his hat with a smile.
"You too!"
Rucao waved its paws. "Goodbye, meow!"
Leon waved back as Charizard spread its wings and took off, heading towards the station near the Fields of Honor.
"Well then, I'll be off on my adventure. I'll leave things to Master Mustard and Miss Honey for now." Su Yi turned to the elderly couple.
"No problem. The Isle of Armor may not be big, but stay safe." Master Mustard reminded him with his hands behind his back.
"I'm off!"
Su Yi and Rucao mounted on Kulu-Ya-Ku and departed from the dojo, galloping northward toward the Soothing Wetlands.
The morning breeze was fresh and invigorating. As they traveled across the wetlands, Su Yi hummed the Chocobo Theme while enjoying the scenery.
As its name suggests, the Soothing Wetlands was a vast marshland. Instead of tall trees, it was filled with low shrubs and grasses.
Streams, ponds, and pools of water were scattered everywhere, creating a cool, humid atmosphere.
"This feels like an open-world wilderness." Su Yi took a deep breath, taking in the beautiful view.
A few Wooper peeked their heads out from the ponds, curiously watching as Kulu-Ya-Ku passed by, while Bouffalant leisurely roamed through the grass.
"Strange… I don't see any Fletchinder." Su Yi looked up, searching for a streak of fiery red.
That was his main goal—to find a Fletchinder with the Flame Body ability, which could help speed up egg hatching.
However, in his search for Pokémon, he failed to notice that the wild Pokémon around him were gradually disappearing.
Kulu-Ya-Ku strode forward, passing by a pond.
Just then, ripples appeared in the water beside them.
"Rogah!"
A Drednaw—a Pokémon resembling a giant snapping turtle—suddenly lunged from the pond. Its extendable neck shot forward as it attempted to chomp down on Dodrio with its powerful jaws.
"Gaa!"
The nimble Kulu-Ya-Ku quickly dodged to the side.
"What the—?!" Su Yi finally realized he was being ambushed.
"There's another one in the water, meow!" Rucao, who sat behind him, pointed out another shadow lurking in a nearby pond.
"Rogah!"
Sure enough, another Drednaw burst out from the water, aiming for Kulu-Ya-Ku.
"It's Drednaw!" Su Yi recognized the giant snapping turtle Pokémon.
Kulu-Ya-Ku, living up to its reputation as an agile thief, dodged both ambushes effortlessly.
"These sneaky little tricksters… looks like the wild is dangerous, whether it's in the Monster Hunter world or the Pokémon world." Su Yi pulled out a Poké Ball.
"Think I'm easy prey? Go, Great Jagras!"
A massive, 10-meter-long Great Jagras landed heavily on the wetlands.
Faced with such a towering opponent, the two Drednaw hesitated.
But Great Jagras didn't.
"Roooar!"
It swung its powerful front limbs, extending its claws. A brilliant green energy wrapped around them as it slashed forward with Dragon Claw.
"Ka—!"
One Drednaw was instantly sent flying back into the pond.
Su Yi's eyes lit up—this Dragon Claw was different. Unlike before, where it simply used dragon-type energy to enhance its strikes, this time, the energy was more condensed, making the claws sharper and deadlier.
"Ka!"
Seeing its companion fall so quickly, the other Drednaw hesitated.
"Roar—!"
Great Jagras glared menacingly, raising its long, muscular tail. Green dragon energy coated its tail before it slammed down like a giant whip.
BAM!
The second Drednaw was also sent flying into the water, ending the battle in an instant.
"So you perfected Dragon Claw and even learned Dragon Tail… Was this from training with Leon's Charizard yesterday?" Su Yi asked in surprise.
"Roar!" Great Jagras nodded proudly.
"You've gotten even stronger! Well done!" Su Yi praised.
Meanwhile, hidden within a nearby bush, a sneaky figure observed Great Jagras's battle.
Its mischievous eyes sparkled with curiosity and excitement.
"Hehe~"
...
Unfortunately, no Fletchinder or Talonflame were in sight.
"This isn't a game, after all. You can't just find them instantly. Rather than waste time, let's head to the Forest of Focus and check on those little cuties."
With that, Su Yi unfolded the Isle of Armor map given by Mustard and made his way to the Forest of Focus—the very first place he had arrived in this Pokémon world.
The trees around him gradually became taller and denser. Following his memory, he reached the Berry Grove.
"I'm back!"
Releasing his Chansey, Su Yi called out.
"Chansey!" Chansey cheered.
"Pika!"
"Goomy!"
One after another, over twenty Pokémon emerged from the trees, bushes, and rocks, joyfully surrounding Su Yi, Rucao, and Chansey.
"It looks like there are even more Pokémon now."
These weak but united Pokémon had formed a small community to survive together.
"Oh? There's an Emolga, Comfey, and Jigglypuff too."
Su Yi admired each Pokémon excitedly.
Suddenly, his eyes widened in surprise.
He quickly ran to one particular Pokémon.
"Your ability… is also Flame Body, isn't it?"
