Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 274: Chapter 271

"Didn't expect me to be this young, did you?" Lucas shrugged, walking over and sitting in the central position, with Freya and Nicole standing behind him.

"Uh..." Yosen was at a loss for words. The other person's response was unexpected, making it hard for him to continue his dismissive remarks.

Yesterday, they had all agreed to stir up trouble right from the start and suppress Lucas, but they hadn't anticipated being left waiting for two hours in the morning, which left them feeling a bit numb from the cold.

"Everyone, please take a seat!" Lucas clapped his hands and said cheerfully, "The game is about to begin."

"Alright! Let's watch the game first." Yosen awkwardly descended the stairs and sat back down.

"Lord Lucas, may I ask, what kind of competition is this?" Sakura City's Lord asked curiously.

"This is called ice hockey, a team-based sport. You'll understand more as you watch," Lucas said briefly.

The participants in the ice hockey game were selected from the military, with a total of four teams, each consisting of eleven players and four substitutes.

"Give the order, it can begin now," Lucas turned to Nicole and said.

"Got it!" Nicole immediately made a gesture towards a certain direction.

A moment later, four people appeared at the castle entrance, carrying a roasted wild boar, which they placed outside the ice rink, with James standing nearby.

The rich aroma of roasted meat, combined with the scent of some special spices, caused everyone to pause and take a deep breath.

"Listen up, everyone! The team that wins today will get this roasted pig," James shouted loudly.

"Our team is definitely going to win."

"Victory will absolutely be ours, team two!"

"..."

A roasted wild boar, and from the lord's mansion no less, was enough to motivate them all. Everyone knew that anything from the lord's mansion was bound to be a high-quality product.

"Today, the teams competing are Team One and Team Two. Tomorrow, it will be Team Three and Team Four, and then the final will be between the winners of those matches."

"The game lasts for ninety minutes, with substitutions allowed midway. There will be a ten-minute halftime, and each goal is worth one point. The team with the most points at the end wins."

James briefly explained the rules and then shouted, "Start!"

Immediately, the two teams clashed together, swinging their hockey sticks to strike the puck, their feet skillfully gliding across the ice.

They had been training for several days, and today was their first real match. Players collided as they fiercely battled for the puck, occasionally knocking each other down.

The surrounding civilians and the lords watching from the stands were stunned. This was their first time seeing such a sport, especially the skating movements on the ice, which caught everyone's attention.

"Lord Lucas, why are they able to glide so freely on the ice?"

Unable to contain his curiosity, the Sakura City Lord asked, "This is the first time I've seen such a game."

"Those are ice skates, a specially made type of shoe with blades," Lucas replied with a light smile.

Ice skates—he wasn't concerned about others knowing, even if someone tried to replicate them. The requirements for the ice skate shoes were so high that they could only be used on specially prepared ice rinks.

"Would it be possible...?" The Sakura City Lord's eyes gleamed with interest. He thought that if he could organize such a competition in Sakura City, it would be quite fun. Plus, he wouldn't have to spend all his time cooped up in the castle looking after trade.

"One pair of ice skates costs about one silver coin, and with the full set of knee guards, hockey sticks, etc., it's likely to cost one gold coin," Lucas replied before the Sakura City Lord could ask.

"The team, including substitutes, requires 15 people, and to make a full match, you need two teams, so that's 30 people."

"Uh..." The Sakura City Lord stared at Lucas in shock. He wondered if he had misheard. A match like this would cost 30 gold coins?

Yosen and the others narrowed their eyes, clearly startled. How rich could someone be to spend 30 gold coins on one match? Moreover, Lucas had set up four teams, which meant 60 gold coins in total.

"How about it? Interested in getting a set? Just 30 gold coins, and if you place the order, I'll have the workshop start right away." Lucas offered with a casual smile.

Lucas turned his head and scanned the group, smiling lightly, "A competition like this is really quite enjoyable to watch. It'd be great to have people compete now and then, or even try it out yourself."

"No, this is too dangerous," The Sakura City Lord quickly waved his hand, his expression indicating he wasn't willing to spend thirty gold coins on something like this.

"That's really unfortunate," Lucas shook his head and then turned his attention back to the game.

Behind him, Nicole's lips twitched slightly as she struggled to hold back a laugh. If the first set of equipment cost one gold coin, that was understandable, given the effort and time invested in development.

But in reality, the cost of producing a set of gear for mass production was only around one silver coin. There were around a hundred sets stored in the warehouse.

"Come on, push forward! Shoot, quickly shoot... Oh no!"

"Good defense! Counterattack, counterattack quickly!"

The surrounding commoners quickly formed teams, with some supporting Team One, while others supported Team Two, enthusiastically shouting from the sidelines.

Forty-five minutes later, during the halftime break, with only a one-point difference between the two teams, Team One was leading with seven points, while Team Two had six.

It was during this break that Yosen, the Sakura City Lord, and the others exchanged glances. There were some things they needed to address now, or they wouldn't be able to discuss them once the second half of the match started.

"Lord Yosen, I've heard that your territory is involved in selling horses?"

Lucas's black eyes glinted with sharpness as he suddenly turned his head and asked, "Could you tell me how much a warhorse costs? And what about the price of a regular draft horse?"

"Ah?" Yosen was caught off guard, not expecting Lucas to be the one to bring up the issue, especially about horses from his territory.

"A mature warhorse costs one gold coin and thirty silver coins," Yosen quickly replied, getting back on track. "A regular draft horse is much cheaper, only ten silver coins."

Warhorses and draft horses were different. The former was used by knights for combat, with great speed and power, while the latter was generally used for pulling carts or transporting goods, much less capable than a warhorse.

"Lord Yosen, how many warhorses do you have?" Lucas rested his chin on his hand, considering that the price for a warhorse in winter was a bit on the high side.

"We have around three hundred mature warhorses," Yosen replied honestly. He wasn't sure why Lucas was asking this, but there was a hint of curiosity and expectation in his eyes.

"A discount of ten silver coins per warhorse, and I'll take them all," Lucas said indifferently.

"What?"

Yosen abruptly stood up, staring at Lucas in shock. He stammered, "Lord Lucas, you want all of my warhorses?"

"Of course, is there a problem?" Lucas answered calmly.

His new soldiers were in desperate need of warhorses—only cavalry with horses could truly be considered cavalry.
