Star Odyssey

Chapter 3419: Arrival

Upon seeing Yi Yao's determination, Ba Liu's voice dropped low, "I'm sorry."

Yi Yao smiled and shook her head. "I'm quite happy. You've tried everything for my sake. I'm really happy, honestly."

They were surrounded by attacks. These were not intended to kill the two, but rather to trap them and eliminate any chance of escape.

Ba Liu squeezed Yi Yao's hand even tighter as he whispered, "We have one last chance! Get ready to charge the gates!"

Yi Yao was surprised.

Suddenly, the entire city was plunged into darkness. The bright lights that had just illuminated everything felt like nothing more than a dream.

Everyone was startled by the sudden change. What had happened?

Those who were able to enter Beacon City were all at least able to travel through the void. Being in total darkness or in a well-lit area would not have much of an impact on such people, but Beacon City had a rule that the lights had to always be on. It was a command from the High Seraph himself.

However, all of the lights had suddenly gone out.

Yi Xia was furious. "What's going on?"

Five knives shot out from Ba Liu’s hand as he defended himself from the surrounding cultivators who were trying to capture him and Yi Yao. She also took action, and beneath her feet, green ripples spread out, slamming against the city gates. This power was quite similar to a Progenitor's world.

At the peak powerhouse level, it was quite common for diverse paths to converge at similar results, no matter how much the cultivation methods differed.

The green ripples struck the city gates, but the attack failed to immediately force them open.

Ba Liu coughed up blood as he also threw a knife at the gates.

The knife pushed the city gates open slightly, much to Ba Liu’s excitement. He pulled at Yi Yao, ready to flee.

However, a grim face appeared in their path. Yi Xia was there.

A terrifying aura pressed down upon Ba Liu and Yi Yao, making it hard for them to breathe. Their faces turned pale. There was an overwhelming difference in strength.

Ba Liu was only at the cusp of becoming a peak powerhouse, and he was still what the Spirit Nidus considered a Spirit Warrior. As for Yi Yao, she was only a Spirit Ancestor. In contrast, Yi Xia was a sequence powerhouse, which was at least a full realm above both of them.

Ba Liu and Yi Yao worked together, but their efforts were useless against Yi Xia. His sequence particles dissolved all of their attacks.

An overwhelming sense of powerlessness left Ba Liu exhausted. He had used every possible method to get as far as he had, and plunging Beacon City into darkness had been his backup plan. He had intended to use that option only when they were about to use the springboard, in order to buy time. He had just gambled everything he had left, as he had known that it would be difficult to escape from Beacon City. Even so, he was unable to let himself simply give up.

When he saw Yi Xia blocking their path to the gates, he knew that everything was over.

He was no match for a sequence powerhouse.

Yi Yao felt similarly helpless. It had been incredibly difficult just to make it as far as they had, but in the end, they had still failed to escape.

The anger in Yi Xia's eyes was overwhelming, and they were even slightly bloodshot. First, he had been forced to speak to his ancestor and admit to the truth of the situation, and Seraph Yi Shang had then taken the blame by preemptively leaking word of the secret sequence base. He had then assumed that everything would be fine with the High Seraph, but unexpectedly, Ba Liu had extinguished the lights of Beacon City. This would stain Yi Xia’s reputation.

A mere Spirit Warrior, a piece of trash, had actually caused Yi Xia to eat a loss, and it was all because of some worthless affection. It was despicable and completely detestable.

"You are courting death," Yi Xia growled through gritted teeth.

As soon as the words left his mouth, a tremor ran through his body, and his eyes lost focus. With that, he collapsed.

Yi Xia was not alone. At the same moment, Ba Liu, Yi Yao, everyone nearby, and actually everyone in all of Beacon City collapsed.

There were eight sequence powerhouses surrounding the primary springboard. All of them had cultivated the same sequence method, and their job was to protect the springboard.

In an instant, all of them collapsed. They were unable to even put up any resistance.

Silence enveloped Beacon City.

At the same time, a massive battleship arrived from the distance. Boundless had arrived.

At the battleship’s bow stood Lu Yin, the Origin Progenitor, and many others, all of whom were staring at Beacon City. "As we expected, there are certainly a lot of cultivators here."

"There are also so many springboards! This is too much. It takes at least an Ortuser to build a springboard. Just how many Ortusers has the Spirit Nidus used for this? How many years did they spend to build all of them? What purpose is served by having so many?"

"That one is the original springboard. I thought that it would only be a few hundred or a few thousand times bigger than the ones we made, but it’s much larger. It’s about the size of a planet."

"To increase the distance that’s covered in a single jump, even by a tiny bit, the size of the springboard has to increase exponentially. This size isn’t surprising."

"The Spirit Nidus is very cautious. They have the springboard completely surrounded, and they’ve even built a city around it. This place is a transit point for attacking the Consciousness Megaverse and our Tianyuan Megaverse, as well as a means of observing the springboard."

"This city was just lit up, but all of the lights suddenly went out. We didn’t even do anything yet, did we?"

Lu Yin was still staring at Beacon City. "There are fourteen sequence powerhouses. Not an overwhelming number, and it’s actually fewer than I expected. Eight of them have the springboard surrounded, and they’ve even cultivated the same sequence technique. As for the other six, three of them are hiding, while the other three are scattered across the city. From the looks of it, something’s happened here. This is rather interesting. At least things won’t be boring."

After twenty years of travel, Boundless had finally reached Beacon City.

While twenty years was not a long time, sailing through complete darkness for twenty years was quite lonely.

Lu Yin's eyes fell onto Ba Liu and Yi Yao. It looked like the people surrounding the two were attacking them, but neither of the two targets were very strong.

It was finally time to introduce themselves to the Spirit Nidus.

As Boundless arrived, the people aboard naturally took action and instantly seized control of Beacon City.

Given the strength of Lu Yin and the others, no matter if they used a domain, spiritual force, or consciousness, it was possible for the group to instantly take control of Beacon City. The only chance the city had to resist was if a Seraph was stationed there.

However, it seemed that there was no Seraph in the city at the moment.

It would not be unusual for a Seraph to be in Beacon City, but it was also perfectly normal for none to be present.

There was no way to understate just how important Beacon City was to the Spirit Nidus, but it was also a dangerous location. If the Spirit Nidus’s suspicions were accurate and some unknown civilization was observing the springboard, then Beacon City would be the first to fall.

Given the fact that the Spirit Nidus was already at war with the Consciousness Megaverse, since the High Seraph had retained his memories from the temporal reversion, it would make sense for him to keep the various people who had karmic ties to Lu Yin at a distance. This meant that there were most likely no Seraphs available to be stationed in Beacon City.

Boom!

Boundless shook as it docked on Beacon City.

Lu Yin and the others stepped onto the city. This was their first step into the Spirit Nidus.

Ce Wangtian lazily stretched. "It feels so good to have my feet on solid ground again."

Progenitor Xi looked over in a certain direction. If she continued in that direction, she would end up in the Consciousness Megaverse. From Beacon City, she could return to the Consciousness Megaverse. How long had it been? She had once believed that she would die in the Tianyuan Megaverse.

While conscients were able to live for an extremely long time, they were not immortal.

She had never imagined that, one day, she would cross the Aevum Inch again and have the chance to return to the Consciousness Megaverse.

She glanced at Lu Yin’s back. Even if she wanted to return, doing so depended on Lu Yin.

The group scattered. Some people went to inspect the springboard, while others went to satisfy their curiosity about the city itself.

More than a hundred of the people black energy converter users dispersed. They went to gather up all of the unconscious people from the Spirit Nidus.

Lu Yin made his way to the city gate where Ba Liu and the others were, followed by Second Life.

The five members of Second Life had also been on Boundless.

On the branch stream of the River of Aeons, Second Life had fought at the stone gate at the boundary of the megaverse, risking their lives many times. Even after the temporal reversion, they were unable to escape from the war against the Spirit Nidus, as they had been drafted for the excursion.

Ba Liu’s head throbbed painfully as he opened his eyes. He felt terribly confused. What happened? Yi Yao…

He suddenly sat up and saw that she was still beside him. She had also collapsed to the ground. He did not take the time to check his surroundings as he hurriedly helped her, relieved to find that she had only fainted.

Only after that did he look around. Everyone else had also collapsed to the ground.

Ba Liu’s eyes narrowed at the sight of Yi Xia also lying on the ground.

Yi Xia was the lord of Beacon City, and he was an incredible powerhouse. What could have happened?

Ba Liu’s head suddenly whipped around, and he locked eyes with someone. At that moment, the man’s expression froze.

Lu Yin gave a small smile from where he was casually sitting. Behind him were the members of Second Life, and even further back was the massive form of Boundless. It crouched like a massive creature looking down on Beacon City.

Beacon City was large, but Boundless was enormous. With the battleship as the background, Ba Liu stared at Lu Yin. The man could feel an oppressive pressure from Boundless, and it left him momentarily stunned. It was as though he had been struck by something, and he was unable to say a single word.

Lu Yin continued to calmly sit in place, a relaxed smile on his face. Behind him, each member of Second Life had their own distinctive features. Their appearance was like a painting that had been dragged out from the depths of the abyss.

"Could you explain the current situation?" Lu Yin asked calmly. He looked completely at ease, as though everything was already under his control.

In Ba Liu’s eyes, the city lord of Beacon City, who was someone he had done everything possible in an attempt to outwit, was lying on the ground like a dead dog, incapable of even standing in front of this young man. Who is this man? Some god?

Second Gu’s gaze hardened, and the pressure intensified.

Ba Liu was instantly slammed to the ground so hard that he coughed up blood.

"Our master just asked you a question."

Ba Liu’s pupils dilated. This man was a sequence powerhouse! Was it possible that all five of the people arrayed behind the young man were such powerful experts? It was no wonder why he had been able to seize control of Beacon City. Who was he? In an instant, countless possibilities flashed through Ba Liu’s mind. The Consciousness Megaverse? Impossible.

He had fought in the Consciousness Megaverse for many years and would have learned of such a person. Is he from the Spirit Nidus? Yes, he has to be someone who has been hidden by one of those ancient families.

There were families and sects who remained hidden, only to reveal themselves when one of the Seven Seraphs’ positions became open. With the High Seraph dominating the entire megaverse, the families and sects would never expose themselves, but who could say how deep their foundations might run?

Ba Liu’s thoughts lasted for only an instant.

He did not dare delay. He rose to a half-crouched position before lifting his head to look at Lu Yin. "My lord, I am Ba Liu, and the woman beside me is Yi Yao. We were attacked here in Beacon City, but we have survived thanks to your assistance. Without you, we would have died.

"Thank you, my lord."

Lu Yin smiled. "Why were you attacked?"

Ba Liu opened his mouth and searched for an excuse, only to suddenly feel incredibly uncomfortable. It popped into his head that he could not lie to this young man. This was not a thought, but rather a primal instinct. These were the same instincts that had saved Ba Liu from death while fighting in the Consciousness Megaverse. At this moment, those instincts were screaming louder than ever before. Ba Liu could not lie, no matter what. Lying would cost him his life.

He gritted his teeth. "I am from the Primal Beastland, while Yi Yao is from Heavenspire."

Lu Yin did not respond and instead waited for Ba Liu to continue.

Ba Liu also remained silent, as he waited for Lu Yin’s reaction.

The Primal Beastland were not allowed to be with people of Heavenspire. Doing so was not one, but rather two crimes. To begin with, the people of Heavenspire were absolutely forbidden to intermarry with any outsiders. On top of that, cultivators who took on a beast form during their Spirit Rebirths were forbidden from being with cultivators who had kept their human form after their Spirit Rebirths. These laws applied to the entire Spirit Nidus.

Ba Liu was from the Primal Beastland, and as the name implied, everyone there had taken on a non-human form with their Spirit Rebirth. On the other hand, Yi Yao was entirely human, as she had maintained her human form even after her Spirit Rebirth. While they had both been human before experiencing their Spirit Rebirths, the resulting transformations had made them different species, and that prevented them from being together. On top of that, Yi Yao was from Heavenspire.

This was why Yi Xia had been searching for the couple. If such a crime were committed in Beacon City, he would be held responsible. In particular, the fact that Yi Yao was from Heavenspire made things even worse. The High Seraph himself was very strict about people from Heavenspire joining with outsiders, and such an edict could not be violated under any circumstances.
