Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 609: 608: I Doubt You'll Make It

After Old Man Ten left, Corey decided to take the advice of the old man with utmost seriousness. Although he had no idea who the old man was and if it was his job or normal for him to give him tips and advice, he didn't think it was necessary to ask.

He was just grateful that he had information on what he was to do in the second Tribulation of Hell.

'The Altar of Hell and the Mountain of Giza.'

Corey's eyes moved to the silhouette of a mountain that could be seen in the far-off distance. The mountain was not extremely big or high, but it was the only mountain in the distance and its presence was undeniable.

After asking Old Man Ten about the locations of the Altar of Hell and the Mountain of Giza, the Old Man pointed at the mountain in the distance, and he also told him that although the Mountain of Giza did not seem far, it was farther than he would expect.

Corey exhaled softly, and then he glanced at the head of the skeleton on his right shoulder before he started walking.

As he walked, most people on the streets and those who walked past him glanced with a complicated gaze in their eyes. Whispers flew amongst most people, and what Corey found strange was that he could not hear what people were whispering about even with his Ears of Omnscience.

'Just like the guards outside, none of them have clouds of Dreams and Nightmares… Nothing is normal about the Tribulations of Hell.'

Corey frowned deeply, and then he ignored the gazes and whispers of the people around him. As he walked, he observed the buildings, people, and their activities. Corey found nothing strange in everything he saw, but he realized something else.

He could hear the random conversations of people even if they were meters away from him and they were whispering, however, once the conversation was about him, or to be more specific, the skeleton on his back, he would not be able to hear a single thing even if he increased the input of his Ears of Omniscience.

It was a surprising development to Corey because ever since he got his Ears of Omniscience, he could always hear things people could not if he wanted to, but this time around, it was like he was deaf.

Although a part of Corey did not like such a development, he didn't think too much of it. He kept on walking so that he could reach the other side of the town.

However, an hour later, Corey realized a very big problem.

The other side of the town seemed to be close, it was like he was still far away from reaching the other side of the town despite walking for an hour.

'The old man also told me that the Mountain of Giza is not as close as it seems, but it's actually farther than he would expect. Could it be the same for this town? The other side of the town seems close and the town does not look large at a glance, but it's actually larger than the eye can see?'

Corey furrowed his brows when he had this thought, and then he looked up.

'If I could use my Eyes of Omniscience, I'll be able to see the whole size of the town, but even my instincts are warning me against doing such a thing.'

'I wonder… does this place have night and day?'

Corey wondered, and then he shifted his gaze to an empty carriage that was opposite him. Corey looked around, and then he crossed the road to approach the driver of the carriage.

The driver wore black pants and a brown shirt that had its sleeves folded past his elbows, and in the driver's left hand was a half-smoken cigarette. The moment Corey stood in front of the driver, the driver's eyes instantly went to the skeleton on Corey's back and a solemn expression instantly appeared on Corey's back.

"What do you want?" The driver asked as he took a puff from his cigarette, however, his gaze was still on the skeleton and Corey could see the fear hidden deep within the eyes of the driver.

"I want you to take me to the other side of the town. I want to leave the town." Corey gestured at the wooden town walls in the distance, and the driver immediately shook his head.

"No, can't do."

Corey frowned, "Why? If its about money, then I'm sure we can find a way to settle it."

The driver shook his head once again. He took a puff of his cigarette, and then he gestured at the skeleton on Corey's back.

"There's nothing you can do or say to make me help you out of the town. You are a forsaken and a banished. Anybody with that on their back is a sign and a warning to us that we must not help them in any way or we'd suffer the consequences… Or we'll share a portion of your sin."

Corey frowned deeply when he heard this. He glanced at the skeleton on his back, and a cold and calculating light flashed in his eyes.

'A forsaken and a banished?'

"Only those crazy bastards would not care about helping people like you, but if I were you, I would never take their help. Only a fool would take the help of insane people."

Corey's brows rose in intrigue and curiousity, "Who are these crazy bastards?"

The driver took another puff of his cigarette, and then he scoffed with a slight shiver, "If, no, when you encounter them, cause you'll definitely encounter those insane bastards. When you encounter them, you'll instantly know them. They have a symbol on their foreheads, a very noticeable symbol."

Corey tilted his head to the side slightly with an intrigued light in his eyes, but he said nothing.

The driver pointed at the town walls, and then he spoke, "If you want to leave the town, then you better walk on your two feet and leave the town. Nobody would help you, and if possible, you better leave before it gets late."

"But I doubt you'll make it regardless."
