After more than an hour had passed, Sato continued to experience failure after failure, with over ten more unsuccessful attempts. However, he seemed to relish these setbacks, his expression growing increasingly exhilarated with each attempt.
From noon until now, aside from a brief break for dinner, Sato had been holed up here working on Pokémon food preparation. Nearly five hours had elapsed, during which he had failed more than fifty times in total.
The best attempt so far was his latest batch of Pokémon food for Swampert. What lay in his hands now was a bluish, gooey substance streaked with hints of earthy yellow—undeniably another failed product.
Yet, Sato showed no trace of disappointment. Instead, he appeared unusually thrilled, as if holding treasure instead of a failed concoction.
In truth, Sato meticulously documented each attempt at crafting Swampert's food. Using a timer and laptop, he recorded every step of the process, noting the time taken, temperature, mixing speed, and other factors to create detailed parameter tables for comparison.
Moreover, he used surveillance cameras in the room to record the entire process of crafting the Pokémon food.
After each failure, Sato diligently analyzed the data from the failed batch and reviewed the footage to identify which steps had been executed better. He would isolate these improved steps and their corresponding data to serve as a reference for his next attempt.
Gradually, with each iteration, Sato amassed a wealth of data. By repeatedly filtering and comparing results, he derived optimal parameters for each step of the process. Consequently, after more than fifty failures, he finally saw a glimmer of success.
Although the blue, gooey substance before him was still a failure, the fact that it had changed color signaled the occurrence of a significant chemical reaction during mixing.
This outcome indicated that Sato's data on ingredient ratios, temperature control, mixing speed, and duration were now nearing the ideal conditions for success.
With an excited expression, Sato recorded the latest data from this attempt. After efficiently cleaning the equipment, he wasted no time starting his next experiment.
At this point, Sato resembled a mad scientist. Though physically exhausted, the prospect of a breakthrough filled him with exhilaration, allowing him to ignore his fatigue entirely.
Over the next two hours, through numerous trials, the Pokémon food for Swampert became increasingly closer to the description in The Lilycove Compendium.
Finally, on his ninety-third attempt, Sato succeeded. In the large mixing bowl before him was a crystalline blue, jelly-like substance with scattered specks of earthy yellow.
According to the book, it should have a texture similar to elastic jelly, and this batch matched the description perfectly.
However, there was a subtle difference. The glowing aqua-blue and earthy-yellow hues emitted by this batch were far brighter than the "faintly glowing" description in the book.
Even as an ordinary person, Sato could sense the concentrated Water- and Ground-type energies emanating from the food.
A tantalizing aroma also wafted through the air, soon catching the attention of Swampert, who had been training in the facility.
Though elated, Sato knew the energy within the food was depleting quickly. Without hesitation, he poured the jelly-like substance into a specialized Pokémon food processor, a machine he had yet to use.
This machine automatically processed the chemically-reacted food into standard-sized portions. Sato's batch was sufficient to produce 20 portions.
To accommodate Swampert's appetite, he had purchased oversized containers capable of holding ten portions each.
Soon, two large, fully-sealed containers of Pokémon food were completed. The potent Water- and Ground-type energies were securely locked inside.
"Hopefully, Swampert will be satisfied. Otherwise, all this effort today would be for nothing," Sato thought, feeling both proud and a bit apprehensive as he eyed the two large containers.
His concerns were unnecessary. Swampert, having already smelled the enticing aroma, eagerly approached the door. Unable to contain his excitement, he accidentally broke the wooden door with a light knock.
By now, Swampert's three-hour training session had long ended—extended by over an hour. The facility's owner, aware of Sato's wealth, had refrained from interrupting him.
Starving after an intense training session, Swampert wasted no time making his intentions clear. With Sato's nod of approval, Swampert carefully opened one of the containers, treating it almost reverently, before devouring its contents in just a few bites.
The moment Swampert finished, he staggered a few steps before collapsing to the floor. Moments later, he fell into a deep sleep, drooling and wearing an expression of pure bliss.
As he slept, Swampert's body intermittently glowed with aqua-blue and earthy-yellow hues. Minor frost injuries on his body healed rapidly, and his energy and stamina visibly replenished. This phenomenon lasted for over three minutes, during which Sato noticed a slight yet discernible increase in Swampert's aura.
It was clear that Swampert had benefited from the custom-made Pokémon food. Though the improvement was slight, Sato was ecstatic.
"This confirms it—investing so much effort into crafting custom Pokémon food is absolutely worth it. Even a small enhancement like this can compound over time. If Swampert eats this regularly, his strength will grow significantly. No wonder top organizations monopolize the best Pokémon ingredients. The secret lies here," Sato thought, his heart pounding with excitement.
The changes in Swampert after consuming the food felt like a revelation, as if Sato had uncovered a new frontier in Pokémon care and training.
