Chapter 29: Come, Boris
The power of an A rank mana awakened, especially those who had honed their fighting skills and spell applications in real life and death battle, was something that Damien Bloodbane still did not want to contend against at that very moment.
Doing so would definitely generate too much unwanted attention.
Resisting their power was fine, defense was much more easily explained than offense, and attracted much less attention.
"Huh that brat managed to survive such a powerful attack? What a tough bastard."
"Damn cockroach. He sure is hard to kill!"
"Ha! That A rank awakened sure is useless. He even failed to kill an E rank brat? Shameful!"
It was much more preferable to something like "Holy shit! He defeated an A rank warrior? What the hell? What secrets is he hiding?"
"Capture him at all costs! I need to know what secret he has that allows him to defeat an A rank warrior with his trashy E rank"
If at all possible, he would like to keep his distance from them.
IF possible.
If not, then he had no qualms whatsoever acting to protect his life and prolonged good health - secrecy be damned.
Damien Bloodbane's eyes narrowed as he studied his opponents in minute detail, his sharp eyes capturing much more information than should have been humanly possible.
Every movement, every subtle shift in stance, and every flicker of hesitation was caught, analyzed and contrasted against his experience in the Super Soldier Basic Training.
"The wind element awakened is stronger in offense, and is the one placing Ardan Flameborn in peril. However, the key is the earth element awakened. Without him and his earthen prison, the wind element awakened is easily countered.
However, that earth element awakened is much more vigilant. His defense oriented mindset has made him extremely sensitive to movement around him.
So the only way to kill him is… This."
Damien Bloodbane could feel a surge of thrill rushing through his veins.
Not because he was about to make a kill.
That one he could do as casually and as mindlessly as breathing.
But it was because he was about to attempt something new.
Energy compression and apply it to his dagger!
Damien Bloodbane circulated his death energy lightly and gathered them in his left palm.
Layer upon layer, the death energy condensed together as he pushed it inward into a dense, writhing mass. His fingers trembled slightly from the sheer resistance, but he clenched his fist tighter and crushed the energy further.
Compression achieved.
It was crude and completely without technique.
But it was compression nonetheless.
"Now to use this energy to do one simple thing - high powered propulsion." Damien Bloodbane had a rough idea on how to do it.
He would coat his palm with a layer of death energy, and then cause the mass of compressed death energy to explode against the dagger he would fling out, thus generating a powerful force to cause the dagger to fly out at an extremely high speed.
Couple with his already monstrous strength and throwing ability, the resulting effect would definitely be spectacular.
Or so he hoped.
"Fatty, go distract them. Do something supremely unfriendly somewhere in that direction." Damien Bloodbane pointed to his left.
"Sure thing boss. You can depend on me." Fatty patted his chest confidently and then proceeded to stomp off loudly to the left before shouting with all of his might.
"Hahaha! Those two European bastards are focused on killing Ardan Flameborn. They would definitely not expect me to make a sneak attack from the left! So I am going to the left now to attack them! Hahahaha! Here I go! To the left! I mean, to MY left, so it would be to the damn European's RIGHT side! I will be attacking them from the right!" Fatty shouted loudly.
Damien Bloodbane almost lost control of his Death Energy compression when he heard damn Fatty's words.
What the hell man!
Which dumbass three year old idiot would believe your words when you put it that way?
Damn fatty! Are you stupid or what!
Damn it!
But as stupid as Fatty was, maybe he wasn't so stupid after all.
As a defensive specialist, Boris was inherently a suspicious person.
Upon hearing such a stupid exclamation from Fatty, his immediate thought was to double then triple suspect it, leading him to conclude that the damn Fatty was playing mind games with him!
"Is he pretending to be stupid so as to make me guard my left flank, when in actuality he is the real attacker? Fucking dipshit. You think I am dumb?" Boris sneered and immediately used his reserve energy to create a powerful earthen wall to guard against Fatty.
Damien Bloodbane's lips twitched uncontrollably.
An idiot underling and an idiot enemy.
He didn't know whether he should feel cursed or blessed.
But whatever.
The fatty's objective was achieved, and now it was his turn to make a move.
Without any hesitation, Damien Bloodbane exploded forth to his right at full speed, quickly rushing towards the wind element awakened.
Shua!
Boris reflexively acted to protect his team mate from Damien Bloodbane's attack and created an earthen wall in front of him.
At this moment, Boris had spent most of his mana, and was essentially unprotected by anything.
A chance.
Damien Bloodbane used his free hand to fling out a small compressed energy ball at the earthen wall in front of the wind element awakened to maintain his feint attack.
As soon as he felt Boris' attention zoom in on his death energy ball assaulting the earthen wall, Damien Bloodbane flicked his dagger and triggered the compressed explosion.
Bang! Shua!
The result was a near instantaneous displacement of the dagger straight to Boris' neck.
As crude as it was, Damien Bloodbane's experiment worked!
Schlub.
The blade sank in effortlessly, piercing flesh and slicing through muscle with terrifying precision.
Blackened energy crackled along the wound, corroding everything it touched. Blood spurted in a brief, violent arc before the wound itself seemed to rot from within.
His veins darkened instantly as death energy ravaged his body.
Boris' eyes widened in shock as he instinctively reached for the blade lodged in his throat.
But he was already dead.
With his death, his Desolate Earthen Prison lost its power and became a mere mound of earth.
Kablam!
The earthen prison exploded into smithereens as Ardan Flameborn's powerful flames burst out of it, causing the battlefield to light up in an instant.
The intense heat seared through the ground and turned soil into molten glass.
Truly, the full power of an enraged A rank high tier Fire Mage was no laughing matter!
Ardan Flameborn burst out of the earthen prison and flew towards Johnson the wind element user at full speed. "Hahahahaha! Die you damn European manwhore!"
Ardan Flameborn sent the full power of his flames surging after the wind element awakened.
The situation had turned 180 degrees in a blink of an eye, and the wind element awakened was instantly placed in a perilous situation.
Johnson waved his hand in a series of strange gestures rapidly. "Flameborn. You truly are the most irritating pest the Devil King had ever encountered. No matter. After today, you will be no more. Come, Boris! Arise!"
At his words, Damien Bloodbane's eyes widened in surprise.
He immediately checked his stats.
A list of words appeared in his mind's eye.
