Naruto: Spiral Into The Darkness

Chapter 13: Rekindled Embers

The animated branches and spikes ensnared Sasuke, their twisted bark constricting like a living vice. The air reeked of damp earth and decaying leaves, the scent heavy with the promise of death. Sasuke's eyes flashed with determination, his Sharingan blazing with an otherworldly energy as he activated the Susano'o.

The Susano'o's ethereal form coalesced around Sasuke like a spectral armor, its presence rippling the air with an audible hum. The humanoid form towered over Sasuke, its body a latticework of glowing, blue-purple chakra threads. Its face was a serene, androgynous mask, its eyes glowing with an unearthly energy that seemed to pierce the very soul.

With a swift motion, Sasuke summoned the Inferno Style: Susano'o Flame Control. The Susano'o's hand morphed into a bow, its string humming with energy as an arrow materialized, its tip ablaze with black Amaterasu flames. The arrow shot forth, striking the animated trees with unerring precision. The Amaterasu flames consumed the wooden limbs, casting flickering shadows across the surrounding foliage as the trees' eerie, crackling screams filled the air.

As the flames died down, Sasuke stood tall, his Susano'o still active. His eyes locked onto Kabuto, their gaze burning with an unspoken challenge. Kabuto's smile never wavered, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Impressive, Sasuke," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "But do you really think that's enough to defeat me?"

Sasuke's gaze burned with contempt as he sneered, "You may have improved a little bit, but you're still nothing but a bug I'm going to crush!" Kabuto's smile never wavered, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Not unless you go through him first, Sasuke," he said, his voice dripping with malice.

Kabuto's hand gestured towards the Wooden Casket, its lid adorned with intricate, ancient symbols that seemed to shimmer with a dark, malevolent energy. The air seemed to ripple with dark chakra as the casket door collapsed onto the floor, revealing the reanimated corpse of Itachi Uchiha. Sasuke's eyes widened in shock, his voice barely above a whisper. "Itachi..." The name hung in the air like a challenge, a mix of emotions swirling in Sasuke's chest like a maelstrom.

The reanimated Itachi slowly emerged from the casket, its movements stiff and jerky, like a puppet on strings. Its eyes, once bright and full of life, now seemed dull and lifeless, their usual warmth and kindness replaced by a cold, empty stare. The air was heavy with the stench of death and decay, the very presence of the reanimated Itachi seeming to draw the life force out of the surroundings.

Suigetsu's voice echoed through the trees, his tone laced with concern. "Sasuke, what's going on?!" Kabuto's eyes glinted with amusement as he taunted Sasuke, "Cat's got your tongue, hee, Sasuke?" Sasuke's eyes remained fixed on the reanimated Itachi, his expression frozen in shock.

Kabuto's voice dripped with persuasion as he continued, "You see, Sasuke, you could fight alongside Itachi once more, united against the Hidden Leaf. My Edo Tensei is unparalleled, capable of reviving the dead with their memories intact, restoring them to their former selves." Kabuto's gaze seemed to bore into Sasuke's soul as he asked, "Would you like me to demonstrate its true potential?"

Sasuke's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with skepticism. "Itachi's dead," he spat, his voice laced with venom. "Even if he retains his memories, he's still nothing but a mere puppet. What's your plan, Kabuto, that you're willing to go so far as to try to manipulate me?" Kabuto's smile remained unwavering, his eyes glinting with amusement.

"True, but like I said, he'll be just like when he was alive," Kabuto replied, his voice smooth as silk. "And I'll grant him free will, the ability to make his own decisions. Don't you want to crush Danzo together with him? Don't you want to know his feelings, his thoughts about that fateful day?" Kabuto's words were laced with a subtle venom, designed to exploit Sasuke's deepest desires.

Sasuke's eyes flashed with anger, his voice low and menacing. "Stop fucking around, Kabuto." With a swift motion, he summoned the Inferno Style: Susano Flame Control once more.

The Susano hand morphed into a bow, its string humming with energy as an arrow materialized, its tip ablaze with black Amaterasu flames. The arrow shot forth, its heat warping the air as it hurtled towards Kabuto. Kabuto dodged the arrow by a hair's breadth, his movements lightning-fast as he countered with a swift strike.

Sasuke, anticipating the attack, jumped into the air, his movements a blur as he intercepted Kabuto. In a flash of steel, Sasuke stabbed Kabuto in the stomach, their bodies clashing in a flurry of motion. Sasuke fell with Kabuto, his blade sinking deep into the other man's stomach. They crashed to the ground, Sasuke's weight pinning Kabuto down like a nail.

The air was forced from Kabuto's lungs as he grunted in pain, his eyes widening in shock. Sasuke's gaze burned with intensity, his eyes blazing with a fierce determination. He twisted the blade, ensuring it remained lodged in Kabuto's stomach, before leaning in close. "You're finished," Sasuke hissed, his voice low and menacing.

Kabuto's smile never wavered, even as his eyes clouded with pain. "Not...yet," he whispered, his voice barely audible. Sasuke's eyes narrowed, his grip on the blade tightening. "What do you mean?" he demanded, his voice cold and detached.

Kabuto's gaze drifted towards the reanimated Itachi, a faint smile playing on his lips. "You'll see," he whispered, his eyes glinting with a malevolent light. Sasuke's eyes followed Kabuto's gaze, his heart sinking as he realized the true horror of Kabuto's plan.
