Chapter 198: Chapter 197 - Post-War Celebration.

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Konoha, Year 42.

...

...

The camp was much more lively than usual at that moment. While tents all around the place were being quickly packed up, the camp itself was gradually disbanding. After all, the war had finally ended, and everyone was celebrating.

"Finally, I'll be able to see my family!" a jōnin said emotionally, a wide smile spreading across his face.

"I'm happy I can see my mother again..." murmured a twelve-year-old genin, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"My wife and my son!" another chūnin exclaimed, the relief evident in his voice.

That feeling of joy was abundant throughout the camp. People continued to shout to one another, exclaiming that they were finally free from the pain and suffering the war had brought to everyone, finally able to breathe after years of service on the front lines.

Now, the war was officially over. With Konoha's orders and the signing of the non-aggression pact, all conflicts had ceased, and the troops had officially withdrawn from the Land of Rain, remaining only at the borders as the camps transitioned into a post-war state.

The true official end of the war would be discussed in more detail during a meeting between the village leaders and the daimyō.

Inside his tent, Minato could hear the shouts and conversations outside as the ninjas began to celebrate. Despite the lighter atmosphere, he still needed to finish reading the last reports on his desk and sign off on the remaining missions. Hearing the celebrations, he couldn't help but let out a relieved sigh, while beside him, a man smiled.

"I see you're also excited about the end of the war, Commander!" said a jōnin standing nearby. He worked directly with Minato, serving as his administrative aide, and was just as cheerful as the rest of the camp.

"How could I not be, Seoul?" Minato replied, still reading through the documents. "I'll finally be able to return to Konoha," he added, revealing his greatest desire.

There were many things Minato wanted to do in Konoha, but the war had kept him tied to his responsibilities as a commander. Despite all the losses he had witnessed, he knew that the war had brought valuable opportunities and lessons. Now, he understood definitively how the ninja world worked—and how cruel it could be—a lesson he would carry for the rest of his life, alongside the duty to honor those who had fallen.

"I heard you've got a piece of land in Konoha now. Is that true?" Seoul asked casually, glancing at the papers on Minato's desk.

Minato smiled faintly. "Yes. I've finally secured my home." He paused briefly before continuing. "I'll move out of that small apartment I've lived in for the past few years. Now, I'll have a large house, like any clan does. And I'm sure Mikoto will like it..."

Everyone knew that Minato and the Uchiha girl shared more than just a teammate relationship. It hadn't taken long for people to discover that they were engaged.

It was only a matter of time before everyone found out that they were informally betrothed—a relationship that had been arranged, and one that the Uchiha clan didn't entirely approve of. But almost no one in the camp knew that Minato had two other fiancées.

"Where will your property be?" Seoul asked.

"Not in the central area like the other clans. It'll be a bit farther out," Minato replied. He wasn't as concerned with status as the Uchiha and other clans were, preferring the tranquility of a more secluded location. He would even have his own training grounds within his property. And traveling to the village wouldn't be an issue when Minato had his jutsu.

"Anyway, I'm done here. You're dismissed too. I just need you to help organize everything later. I need those documents sent to Konoha," Minato said, standing up and heading outside the tent with the jōnin.

Walking through the crowd, he observed the people still celebrating, hugging each other, and laughing as they formed their own groups.

The feeling of relief and joy was contagious. Despite that, Minato knew that not everyone was completely happy with the end of the war, as some still sought revenge for their fallen comrades. However, in this particular camp, that sentiment was less prevalent than in others. Minato had managed to drastically reduce the mortality rate among the ninjas under his command, making this one of the safest camps in the entire Land of Fire.

"I'm heading back to my tent, Commander. Call me if you need anything," the jōnin accompanying Minato said, taking a different path.

"Alright," Minato replied with a nod before continuing toward his own tent.

When he arrived, he found Mikoto and Hanabi sitting and eating peacefully amidst the celebration, not joining the larger groups. Minato waved at the people passing by, some of whom were shouting his name in celebration. He simply nodded politely in acknowledgment before approaching the girls.

"I've never seen you this popular, Minato," Mikoto commented with a playful smile.

Minato shrugged as he sat down in front of them. "That's the effect of Konoha winning on all fronts," he replied.

"When will we return to Konoha?" Hanabi asked, looking at Minato with curiosity.

"Most likely, the majority of the camp will leave soon," Minato said thoughtfully. "But I'll have to stay behind for a while. There are still some things I need to organize before we empty out everything."

"You're not staying here alone, are you?" Mikoto raised an eyebrow, and Hanabi nodded in agreement.

"Of course not. At least half of the camp will stay with me for some time," Minato confirmed.

"Among those staying, I hope we'll be together, right?" Mikoto asked again, watching Minato with a curious gaze.

"Yes, we'll stay together," Minato said with a calm smile.

"But Minato... now that the war is over... will we still be a team?" Hanabi asked.

"Good question," Minato reflected. "I don't think we'll disband anytime soon. Even without Jiraiya-sensei as our official leader, we're still a team. And that can last until we start forming our own teams in the future. After all, we're already jōnins, so we'll soon be asked to do that," he explained.

After that, they remained silent for a few moments, enjoying the end of the war and the peace that was beginning to settle in, free from worries about missions or rescuing comrades from enemy lands.

"Hey, Commander Minato! Where's the speech?" some people from the camp began shouting at him, pointing out that the commander hadn't officially spoken yet.

"Speech?" Minato murmured, thoughtful.

"It's true. Aren't you going to officially mark the end of the war?" Hanabi asked.

Minato looked at her for a moment before nodding. "You're right. But I still need the advance post personnel to be here too," he said.

A few hours later, the advance post had finally returned, bringing their leaders and a group of ninjas back to the camp. Some sentinels remained behind to watch for any surprise attacks from Iwa. Even with the non-aggression treaty, it was still prudent to be cautious.

Minato then stood up from where he was seated and made his way toward the center of the camp. On his way, he called out to some jōnins.

"Gather everyone in front of the platform. I'm going to give a brief word," he instructed.

The ninjas who received the order quickly spread out across the camp, informing the others. Gradually, people began gathering in front of the platform where Minato had previously given his speeches, especially during mission briefings.

The crowd was still laughing and celebrating. Some carried bottles of sake in their hands.

Minato climbed the platform and waited until the crowd had gathered. Once he saw that everyone was paying attention, he raised his hand, signaling for silence, and the conversations quickly ceased.

"Well, first... I'll turn a blind eye to the drinks," Minato said, drawing laughter from the crowd. "After all, we're in the middle of a celebration, and today we can make an exception—just don't overdo it."

Once the laughter faded, he continued in a more serious tone. "I want to thank everyone. Not just this camp, but all the fronts that fought to bring this victory to Konoha through our efforts in this war against four of the Great Five Nations." Minato paused, scanning the faces around him.

"But I also want to pay tribute to all those who fought and sacrificed themselves for their comrades, for peace, and for the village. I want their efforts to never be in vain and to never be forgotten. To our comrades who fell in battle..."

The atmosphere shifted. The celebratory mood turned somber as everyone began to remember the comrades they had lost. The camp fell into silence, each ninja listening intently to Minato's words, a mixture of emotions washing over them.

"I want us to observe a minute of silence in respect for those heroes," Minato said, closing his eyes.

The gathered ninjas followed suit. Even the sentinels stationed in the forest surrounding the camp, hearing the speech, closed their eyes in respect. The entire area was enveloped in complete silence for a full minute, honoring those who had given their lives for Konoha. Every ninja present had lost someone, and the moment added a bittersweet touch to the celebration—a stark reminder of the harsh reality of the ninja world.

After the minute of silence, Minato opened his eyes. The others followed. He took a long breath before allowing a small smile to appear on his face.

"Anyway, I want to thank all of you for fighting alongside me and your comrades around you. It was thanks to that unity that we achieved a very satisfying outcome in this camp. This camp had the best performance during the last year of the war," Minato said, as many in the crowd nodded in agreement.

It was inevitable. The administrative plans Minato had put in place for the camp had been executed with efficiency, yielding highly satisfactory results. The camp under his command stood out for its low mortality rate and the success of its missions.

"Well, in any case, I'm officially declaring the end of this camp's activities. Today, take the whole day to celebrate!" Minato declared with a smile. "In the coming days, we'll begin organizing our return to Konoha."

With that, he concluded his speech and jumped down from the platform. As soon as his feet touched the ground, the ninjas began to applaud and cheer. The celebrations grew even more lively, and many began pulling more bottles of sake from their sealed scrolls.

"Should they really be drinking like that?" Mikoto asked, observing the camp.

"Well... They shouldn't," Minato replied with a small smile. "But we're finally at peace. Today, we'll make an exception."

He glanced around. The atmosphere was light and peaceful, with no signs of danger. For the first time in a long while, everything seemed calm. Minato allowed himself to relax a bit more and pulled a bottle of sake from his own storage bracelet.

"What do you say? Shall we drink a little today?" he asked, smiling.

Mikoto and Hanabi exchanged glances before nodding.
