Naruto: I Beat The Villagers And Made Them Scream

Chapter 50: The Rumors Begin

The next day at work, Kuragami Uchiha called the leaders of the Konoha Military Police Force into his office one by one and instructed them to keep an eye on Naruto and offer him some protection.

The Jonin leaders, including the recently recruited Kaze Inuzuka and Shihei Aburame, who had been sent by the Aburame Clan, passed the orders down the chain privately.

As a result, over the following days, members of the Konoha Military Police Force subtly looked out for Naruto during their patrols. A few ignorant villagers who hurled verbal abuse at Naruto happened to do so right in front of the patrol teams and were immediately arrested under various pretexts.

Naruto quickly noticed the reduction in hostility around him. Being naturally cheerful, he became even more upbeat. However, at the same time, some unsettling whispers began circulating throughout the village...

… … …

"Have you heard? That demon fox brat has found himself a backer."

"Really? No wonder he's been acting cockier lately. Turns out he got a ninja supporting him."

"Any idea who this guy is?"

"I think his name is Kakashi Hatake. I heard he used to be in Anbu."

"Hmph, anyone who hangs around that demon fox brat can't be a good person."

"Yeah, I heard he got kicked out of the Anbu by the Hokage himself."

"And that's not all! Rumor has it he's a bloodthirsty killer. Back in the Third Shinobi World War, he even killed his own comrades."

"What? If that's true, why hasn't the Hokage done anything? Why hasn't he driven both him and that demon fox out of the village?"

"I heard he's got ties to the Konoha Military Police Force."

"That's terrifying. We should just avoid that damn fox brat from now on."

"Hmph! What's there to be afraid of? What's he gonna do, attack us in the village? The Hokage is on our side. If he dares lay a hand on us, we'll petition the Hokage to kick them out!"

"Yeah! If we all sign a petition together, the Hokage will definitely make them leave!"

… … …

Their conversation caught the attention of a certain green jumpsuit-clad, bowl-cut ninja who was training nearby. Upon overhearing their words, he stepped forward indignantly.

"How can you say that? Kakashi is a hero of the village!"

As soon as they saw a ninja approaching, the villagers who had just been talking big scattered like frightened birds.

"Hey! Don't run! Say that to my face!"

Might Guy shouted loudly.

"Forget it, Guy."

At this time, Kakashi appeared behind Might Guy and patted his old friend on the shoulder.

"Kakashi?" Might Guy turned around and was momentarily stunned to see his friend without his usual mask. "Wait... You...?"

Kakashi nodded. "Consider it a farewell to the past."

Might Guy's eyes welled up with emotion. "Even though I have no idea what you mean, this must be the feeling of youth! Kakashi, let's have a passionate showdown!"

"Sorry, I don't have time for that right now." Kakashi declined.

Might Guy blinked in surprise, then recalled the situation at hand. "Is it because of those people just now? Let's go find them and set the record straight! How dare they say such things about you!"

"Let it go."

Kakashi shook his head. "Even if we catch up to them, what can we do? A ninja can't lay hands on civilians."

… … …

Similar conversations were occurring throughout the village over the next few days, and before long, Kakashi's name had become infamous.

Kuragami Uchiha, stationed at the Konoha Military Police Force headquarters, naturally heard about these rumors as well.

When an investigation was conducted, it was discovered that the source of the rumors could be traced back to civilians working in businesses owned by the Mitokado and Homura clans.

"After all these years, I thought they'd have come up with something new, but they're still playing the same old tricks."

Kuragami sneered as he read through the investigation report.

Just then, there was a knock on his office door.

"Come in."

After Kuragami shouted, the door was pushed open, and Shisui walked in.

"Vice-captain, you wanted to see me?" Shisui asked.

"Shisui, it's just the two of us. No need to be so formal; have a seat." Kuragami gestured.

"You're the vice-captain of the Konoha Military Police Force now. So we have to pay attention to the rules in this regard." Shisui replied as he sat down across from him.

"Alright, let's not dwell on that. Here, take a look at this." Kuragami handed over the report from the investigation team.

Shisui carefully read through the document, his expression turning to one of disbelief. "Isn't there some kind of misunderstanding?"

"What misunderstanding could there be? It's clear that someone is targeting Kakashi, just like how they've targeted our clan in the past."

Kuragami said with a smirk. "By the way, why don't you ask the third Hokage what he thinks about this?"

Shisui hesitated for a moment before replying: "I trust that the third Hokage will step in and put a stop to this."

"The third Hokage is a busy man. Does he really have time for this?"

Kuragami chuckled. "But we can't just ignore it either. Kakashi is a war hero who earned his merit at Kannabi Bridge. If we allow these slanders to continue, how can other ninjas continue to believe in the will of fire? We must put a stop to these rumors immediately."

Seeing Kuragami's intensity, Shisui grew anxious. "Kuragami, what are you planning?"

He was genuinely worried that Kuragami would act rashly and escalate the situation beyond his control.

"Don't worry, Shisui. I have no intention of using the Konoha Military Police Force's authority for violence."

Kuragami reassured him, then continued: "I intend to have the Konoha Military Police Force enact a new law to regulate this kind of behavior. I want you to take charge of drafting it."

"That's the best approach."

Shisui sighed in relief. "But... Does the Konoha Military Police Force even have the authority to enact laws?"

"Of course. I went through the original documents from when the Konoha Military Police Force was established and found that the second Hokage granted us legislative powers over village security matters."

Kuragami explained. "So, Shisui, we must draft a comprehensive set of legal provisions for this issue. We can't let the second Hokage's foresight go to waste."
