Chapter 15: Kakashi Hatake
"Naruto, I'm leaving now. See you later."
"See you!"
The Jounin instructor for Team 10 had finally arrived. Choji and Shikamaru waved at Naruto. He gave them a slight nod in return before looking up at the ceiling, bored, waiting for his team's turn.
By chance, just as she was about to leave the classroom, Ino suddenly stopped and turned around. She looked at Naruto and said, "See you."
However, Naruto instinctively thought Ino wasn't talking to him. Their relationship had never been good from the start, and in the past few days, he had provoked Ino multiple times. If they parted ways without a goodbye, that would have been normal. So why was Ino suddenly saying farewell?
Ino stared into Naruto's clear blue eyes, waiting for a response. But when none came, she felt a slight discomfort in her heart.
"Why are you so stingy with your words?"
"If you don't want to talk, fine. Who cares?"
Even though she was annoyed, Ino remained stubborn. She said those words before turning around and leaving. After today, they wouldn't be able to see each other every day like they had in the academy.
Before they truly parted, Ino actually wanted to ask Naruto something.
She wanted to ask why he always acted like a clown when teasing Sakura. Was it really just to get her attention?
She wanted to ask why he got angry when she cheered for Sasuke. Did he really like her?
But Ino was always too proud to admit defeat. Since Naruto ignored her, she refused to show weakness. She held onto her pride and quickly followed Asuma, her team's instructor. However, after taking a few steps, a sense of regret crept into her heart.
"If I had waited just a little longer, maybe he would have said something..."
Naruto, still sitting in the classroom, turned to Sakura, who was standing not far from him.
"Was she talking to you?" Naruto asked.
Sakura, lost in her own thoughts, hesitated before replying, "Maybe..."
Right now, her mind was more focused on how to build relationships with Sasuke and Naruto in the future. The two strongest and most handsome boys in her class were now on the same team as her.
Sakura liked Sasuke.
And Naruto liked Sakura.
"What a complicated situation," she muttered to herself.
Naruto thought for a moment. When Ino had spoken earlier, she was looking right at him, so maybe she really was talking to him.
--- --- ---
By the time evening arrived, only Naruto and Sakura remained in the classroom.
Sakura paced back and forth in the hallway, bored. She wanted to start a conversation with Naruto to pass the time, but he had been lying on his desk, fast asleep, for a while now. A gentle breeze from outside carried a leaf through the window, which landed right on Naruto's face.
Under the sunlight, his fair skin seemed to glow softly.
The sight made Sakura pause for a moment. She didn't have the heart to wake him because of how handsome he looked. If she didn't have to wait for their instructor, she might have even rented a camera to capture this moment.
"Why does Naruto have to be this handsome? This makes it even harder for me to choose between him and Sasuke..."
As Sakura murmured those words, Naruto's eyelids twitched slightly.
"Choose? Choose what? No one asked you to choose!"
Deep down, Naruto wanted to laugh. This girl was way too full of herself.
In reality, Naruto hadn't been asleep at all. He just didn't feel like talking to Sakura.
The girls in this world matured too quickly when it came to romance, yet at the same time, they were so childish. They spent more time thinking about handsome guys than training to become stronger.
Out of all of them, at least Sasuke had the mentality of a proper ninja. Even though he was arrogant, he only focused on getting stronger.
--- --- ---
After hours of waiting, their Jounin instructor finally arrived, along with the third member of their team.
The moment Sakura saw him, her eyes lit up with joy.
"Sasuke-kun! You're finally back! Are you okay? Were you badly hurt?"
But Sasuke ignored her completely. He walked right past her and stared at Naruto with a determined expression.
"Naruto... I will defeat you."
Hearing this, Naruto just scratched his head. He wasn't surprised by Sasuke's words. He had already expected Sasuke to challenge him the moment they met again.
"Alright, I'll be waiting."
Naruto yawned lazily before saying, "So, when do we start? We've been waiting here for hours."
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Kakashi said casually. "As you can see, I had to bring your teammate back from the hospital, so I arrived a bit late."
With only one visible eye, Kakashi continued, "My name is Hatake Kakashi. I will be your instructor. Now, follow me to the rooftop."
On the academy rooftop, Kakashi stood in front of them and said, "Alright, let's start with introductions. Tell me what you like, what you dislike, your hobbies, and your dreams."
Sakura, who had grown tired of waiting, spoke up first.
"My name is Haruno Sakura! I like..."
As she said that, she glanced at Sasuke. "My interests..."
Her gaze shifted to him again. "And my dream is..."
In the end, she only smiled shyly without finishing her sentence.
Kakashi silently observed Sakura, then turned his attention to Naruto.
"Hmm... So whose dream is it actually? Sasuke's or Naruto's?"
Sasuke introduced himself in a cold tone.
"My name is Uchiha Sasuke. I hate many things, and I don't particularly like anything. My dream is to kill someone..."
In the middle of his sentence, Sasuke glanced at Naruto.
"And now, I have an additional target. I will defeat you, Naruto."
Naruto simply shrugged. "Alright, bring it on."
Before this, Naruto had been somewhat interested in Sasuke's strength. But after seeing how weak he was now, he just felt bored.
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto. I like freedom, my hobby is living happily, and my dream is to become Hokage."
In reality, Naruto's true dream was in the first two sentences. The last sentence was just to make the Third Hokage happy.
Kakashi wrapped up the introductions and explained the test they would face the next day.
"Tomorrow morning at five, bring your ninja tools and gather at the training ground."
Before leaving, Kakashi warned them, "Don't eat breakfast, or you'll throw up."
Then, he disappeared without a trace.
--- --- ---
The next morning, while the sky was still dark, Naruto opened his eyes and checked the time. It was still six o'clock.
"Ah, too early."
Without hesitation, he went back to sleep. He knew Kakashi would definitely be late, so there was no reason for him to rush.
Meanwhile, Sasuke and Sakura had been waiting at the training ground for nearly two hours.
After sleeping soundly until eight and enjoying a delicious breakfast at nine, Naruto finally made his way to the training ground.
When he arrived, Sasuke and Sakura looked at him in disbelief.
Sakura, who had been waiting since dawn, immediately scolded him, "Naruto! Why are you so late?!"
Naruto simply yawned and replied, "A black cat crossed my path, so I got lost on the road of life."
Before Sakura could respond, another voice suddenly echoed the exact same words.
"A black cat crossed my path, so I got lost on the road of life."
They all turned to see Kakashi finally arriving at the training ground.
Sasuke and Sakura's expressions darkened immediately.
"These two are really the same!" they both thought.
Kakashi gave them an awkward smile and then pulled out two bells from his pocket.
"Alright, let's get straight to the point. You must take these bells from me before noon."
