Chapter 5: Black Widow

SHIELD, Nick Fury's office.

After watching all the surveillance videos, Nick felt something was off.

When entering the laboratory, Kai Vale had been chatting and laughing with his classmates, looking energetic. But suddenly, he became dizzy, collapsed in the corridor, and accidentally bumped into the Cosmic Cube. This sequence of events seemed suspicious to Nick, and he believed Kai's presence in the lab was intentional.

Nick picked up the phone on his desk. "Ask Agent Natasha Romanoff to come to my office."

A short while later, Natasha knocked on the door and stepped inside.

"Take a look at this guy's profile and contact him. See if he had another motive for being in that lab," Nick instructed, handing her Kai's file.

At that moment, Kai was busy lecturing Gear and Turbo. Otherwise, if left unchecked, Kai believed the two tiny Transformers would reduce his room to rubble.

After wrestling them to a stop, Kai stood the pair in front of him.

"Alright, listen up," Kai warned. "From now on, I'll call you by your names — Gear and Turbo. When you're at home, no breaking stuff. If anyone comes in, you turn back into a laptop and a remote-controlled car. No exceptions. And Gear, since you're good with tech, you need to be extra careful online — there's an AI out there called JARVIS. Don't leave any traces or you might get discovered."

Fortunately, Gear and Turbo weren't rebellious, just playful. Since they had already accepted Kai as their master, they nodded obediently.

"Got it!" Turbo said, saluting dramatically.

"Yeah, yeah," Gear added. "No explosions without permission."

Relieved, Kai was about to let them go when he remembered something. In the movies, these two had weapon systems.

"Wait," Kai called them back. "Do you two have weapons?"

Excited, Gear and Turbo instantly activated their small arsenal of gadgets and miniature cannons, eagerly showing off.

Kai's heart skipped a beat. He quickly raised his hands. "Whoa, whoa! No firing without my permission!"

After making sure they understood, Kai flopped down on his bed. So much had happened that morning, and he needed to clear his head.

Before long, Kai drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, Natasha Romanoff had memorized Kai's profile and made her way to his family's restaurant.

Kai, still half-asleep, was startled awake by a knock on his door.

"You brat! You didn't even tell me you were back. I had to come upstairs and call you for dinner!"

Recognizing his grandfather's voice, Kai quickly jumped out of bed. He glanced at Gear and Turbo — both had already shifted back into their disguised forms. Kai smiled. They were learning.

Opening the door, Kai's grandfather, George Vale, stood there, arms crossed.

"Sorry, Grandpa," Kai apologized. "I didn't want to disturb you when I got back."

George's stern expression softened when he noticed Kai still looked a little pale.

"You've been out cold all afternoon. If your friend Ethan hadn't told me you were back, I wouldn't have known."

Kai smiled sheepishly and followed George downstairs.

At the dinner table, Ethan was already waiting, dishes spread out in front of him.

While they ate, George asked Ethan about his recent projects.

Ethan explained, "I've been visiting a few companies with my mentor, and now I'm thinking of starting my own business. I haven't settled on an idea yet, though, so I'm still researching."

"Oh?" George raised an eyebrow. "If you need help, we're here for you."

The bond between their families ran deep, and both boys were treated like family by both households.

But Ethan shook his head. "I want to do this on my own first."

Hearing this conversation sparked an idea in Kai's mind — one that made him smile to himself.

He envisioned a short video platform, like TikTok, but starting in New York and expanding across the United States. It could be huge, and promoting content through it would help him build a name for himself.

Kai figured he could focus on promotion while Ethan managed the business side. It seemed like the perfect plan.

Lost in thought, Kai's grin widened, drawing Ethan's attention.

"What's with that look?" Ethan teased. "Thinking about a girl?"

Kai rolled his eyes, but before he could answer, his grandfather's face lit up with excitement.

"Have you found a girlfriend?" George asked eagerly.

"No!" Kai shot back. "I was thinking of a business idea!"

George sighed, clearly disappointed.

After dinner, Kai explained his idea to Ethan, who was immediately impressed. "That's genius!" Ethan exclaimed. "This could really take off!"

Before Kai could respond, the restaurant door opened.

A red-haired woman walked in, her confident stride catching Kai's attention.

"Wait... is that... Black Widow?" Kai muttered in disbelief.

Why was Natasha Romanoff, one of Nick Fury's top agents, standing in his family's restaurant?
