Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Dragon Remains
"Let's go in and take a look!" Rynar ordered.
"Boom—" With a heavy groan, the massive steel gate was pushed open by several people working together. The enormous door hinges let out an ear-piercing screech as they turned.
"There should be a moat here," Rynar remarked, pointing at the ground beneath him. Indeed, if a moat encircled the fortress, it would be nearly impregnable.
"We don't have enough manpower to undertake such a project," Reynard sighed.
"Ah..." Rynar let out a helpless sigh. It was true—right now, this idea was nothing more than an impractical fantasy.
"Have the soldiers move in. Reynard, let's take a walk around," Rynar said as he gazed at the towering fortress walls, nearly a hundred meters high, with admiration.
"Understood, Your Highness!"
As expected, when Rynar checked the system's territory page, a third icon had appeared alongside Riverguard and the Tupet Forest—Lulong Fortress! It seemed the system had classified it as a separate territory under Rynar's control.
Upon opening the Lulong Fortress tab, Rynar was surprised to see that aside from 500 stationed soldiers, the page was completely empty…
"System, why is Lulong Fortress so empty?" Rynar asked silently in his mind.
"Lulong Fortress is currently in its initial state. Additional buildings need to be constructed by the host," the system replied in its usual cold tone, before displaying a list of available constructions:
Fallen Dragon Tower (100,000 wealth points): A massive anti-air and anti-ground weapon capable of making even dragons bow and avoid the area.
(Most effective when paired with enchanted arrows!) Heavy Dragon-Hunting Tower (20,000 wealth points): Devastating against dragons! (Works even better with Black Arrows!)
Medium Dragon-Hunting Tower (10,000 wealth points): Capable of dealing lethal damage to most dragons! (Enhance its power with Black Arrows!)
Light Dragon-Hunting Tower (5,000 wealth points): Effectively repels dragons and disrupts their attacks at an affordable price! (Black Arrows have a chance to deal fatal damage to wyverns!)
Advanced Arrow/ Ballista Tower (5,000 wealth points): Greater vision, stronger defenses, and formidable anti-air capabilities! (Stationed archers gain increased range, vision, and attack power!)
Intermediate Arrow/ Ballista Tower (3,000 wealth points): Decent vision, passable defenses, and average anti-air capabilities. (Stationed archers gain improved range and vision!)
Basic Arrow/ Ballista Tower (1,000 wealth points): Provides increased vision but weak defenses. Allows for anti-air attacks. (Stationed archers gain a vision boost!)
Pitfall Trap (10 wealth points): A cheap but highly effective defense mechanism.
No ground unit can withstand its steel spikes! (Any unit stepping on it falls in and is impaled!)
Spring Trap (1 wealth point): A seemingly insignificant square-meter contraption that can launch enemies into the air! An absolute nightmare for invading armies.
(Disrupts enemy formations and creates counterattack opportunities!) Concealed Ballista (1 wealth point): Hidden within the walls, it releases 10 steel bolts upon activation.
Stores up to 100 bolts, with a 5-minute reload time. (Make sure to keep an eye on its ammo count!)
Heavy Fortress Ballista (10,000 wealth points): The bane of siege armies and a threat to low-flying aerial units.
When paired with specialized ballista bolts, it can destroy siege engines with ease. (Even dragon knights wouldn't dare take a direct hit!)
Rynar was familiar with this one—it was the same weapon mounted on Riverguard's walls. He had twelve of them, reinforced with dragon sinews gifted through system rewards.
Medium Fortress Ballista (5,000 wealth points): The ultimate counter to heavily armored units, capable of targeting most low-flying aerial knights.
Can destroy siege engines with specialized bolts. (Knights will actively avoid facing this!) Light Fortress Ballista (1,000 wealth points): A nightmare for infantry, capable of shooting down low-flying units. (Turns enemies into kebabs—three at a time!)
Blade Chariot (500 wealth points): A defensive contraption covered in razor-sharp steel swords, perfect for blocking gates! (Break through the gates? Great, now deal with me!)
Arrow-Shatterer (1,000 wealth points): Launches a barrage to clear a 10-meter radius of enemy projectiles. Upon impact, it deals area damage! (Surprise! Your arrows are useless!)
"Now this is some good stuff!" Rynar's eyes gleamed with excitement. This was just like the dwarven anti-arrow machine from the movies—but even better, it had secondary impact damage!
Bladed Rolling Log (1,000 wealth points): Dropped from the walls to clear out enemies climbing them. Can be reused! (Scrub-a-dub-dub, time to clean up!)
…
As Rynar continued down the endless list of war machines, his expression turned blank.
This system is a true arms dealer!
Every single item was designed purely for warfare—there wasn't a single peaceful building on the list!
Rynar was willing to bet his own head that if he stationed 100,000 elite troops in Lulong Fortress and built every defensive structure available, even if Sauron led all of Middle-earth's dark forces, he'd be forced to retreat back to Mordor in tears.
But right now, all Rynar could do was drool over these items. His pitiful wealth points weren't even worth mentioning. Besides, with the current situation, building all these defenses was unnecessary—there weren't even enough soldiers to man them!
Looking at his forces, he had:
100 Zaltarion City Guards, 400 Battanian Archers, and 500 professional soldiers—just barely enough to operate eight Fallen Dragon Towers and patrol the fortress walls.
Meanwhile, over a hundred arrow towers remained unoccupied. At this rate, building more defensive weapons was pointless.
Suddenly, a soldier rushed over.
"Your Highness! A messenger from Riverguard requests an audience!"
"Send him in," Rynar said, resting his hands on the parapet as he gazed out beyond the fortress walls.
Moments later, a knight of the Knights of the Crossed Purple Jasmine approached. His gleaming silver-white armor, paired with a pale purple cloak embroidered with white trim, exuded a reassuring sense of authority.
"Your Highness! This is a letter from Lady Nyx. Please read it at once!"
"Nyx actually sent a knight to deliver a message?" Rynar muttered curiously as he broke the wax seal.
The letter was written in Nyx's elegant handwriting:
"Dear Your Highness,
Farmers in our northern farmlands have unearthed dragon scales. According to Sage Dylan, there may be an ancient silver dragon's remains buried beneath the land—possibly containing a spatial-attribute dragon core. Please return at once!"
Rynar's eyes gleamed.
"What is it, Your Highness?" Reynard's expression darkened, fearing another war was on the horizon.
"Nothing bad. Apparently, we might have a silver dragon's remains buried in our lands. A spatial dragon crystal is priceless!" Rynar exclaimed.
"In that case, I'll prepare the soldiers and gather the knights for departure!" Reynard responded seriously.
"Good. Go ahead!" Rynar nodded, making his way down the fortress steps to prepare the horses.
