Chapter 54: The Pizza Sauce Of Tomorrow
The first rays of dawn crept over Konoha, casting a soft golden glow that did nothing to warm the hearts of those preparing to abandon their home. The Uchiha Compound, usually bustling with activity at this hour, was eerily silent. But in the southern section, the Uchiha Free Company moved like shadows, their breaths controlled, their hearts heavy with the weight of the decision they'd made.
At the forefront of this exodus was Mikoto Uchiha, her expression unreadable as she led her kunoichi through the narrow alleys of Konoha. Each step was a reminder of the life she was leaving behind—the life that, if she stayed, would soon be buried in blood and betrayal.
She refused to look back. It's was time to look to the future free of her clans control.
The trees of Training Ground 44 loomed like silent sentinels as Mikoto and her group approached. The clearing was bathed in the soft light of dawn, the morning mist curling around the trunks like ghostly fingers.
And there, standing at the heart of the clearing, was Raven Kamizuki.
Her violet Rinnegan eyes gleamed in the dim light, a knowing smirk playing at her lips. Beside her, Yuumi lounged on a branch, one tail lazily flicking as she watched the group approach.
"You're late," Raven teased, her voice carrying easily in the still morning air.
Mikoto arched an eyebrow, refusing to be baited. "We're exactly on time."
Raven chuckled, stepping aside to reveal the teleportation array etched into the ground. The seals pulsed with a faint red glow, but what drew everyone's attention was the large cauldron bubbling at the center, filled to the brim with thick, steaming pizza sauce.
Mikoto stopped dead in her tracks, her sharp eyes narrowing. "Is that… pizza sauce?"
Raven's grin widened. "Oh, it's not just pizza sauce. This, my dear Mikoto, is the cornerstone of spatial manipulation."
Mikoto blinked, her mind struggling to reconcile the absurdity of the statement with the serious tone in which it was delivered. "You're using pizza sauce to power a teleportation array."
Raven nodded solemnly. "Yes. And let me explain why."
Yuumi groaned dramatically from her perch. "Oh no, here we go…"
"Pizza sauce," Raven began, adopting the tone of a seasoned scholar, "is the perfect conduit for spatial energy because it's a harmonious blend of cheese, herbs, and tomato chakra. The natural acidity balances the chakra flow, while the mozzarella essence stabilizes the seal patterns. It's basic pizza physics."
Mikoto stared at her, deadpan. "That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard."
"And yet," Raven replied, gesturing to the glowing portal, "it works."
Yuumi snickered. "Don't question the pizza science, Mikoto. Just embrace it."
Mikoto sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "If this kills us, I'm haunting you."
Raven's grin turned positively wicked. "I'd expect nothing less. But bring ghost pizza if you do. I haven't tried any yet."
Just as Mikoto stepped forward, the sharp whistle of kunai slicing through the air made everyone freeze. Years of training kicked in, and the Uchiha Free Company dropped into defensive stances, their eyes scanning the shadows.
From the dense forest, Root operatives emerged like phantoms, their masks gleaming ominously in the early light. The leader, a tall figure with a scar running down his mask, stepped forward, his blade gleaming.
"Did you really think we'd let you leave so easily?" he sneered, his voice cold and devoid of emotion.
Mikoto's eyes narrowed into slits. "I was hoping you'd be smarter than this."
The operative's eyes flickered with irritation, but before he could respond, a sudden whirring sound filled the air.
From behind Raven, her upgraded Pizza Puppets burst into action.
The puppets were monstrous, their bodies a fusion of metal and culinary madness. Sizzling cheese cannons jutted from their arms, while bladed pepperoni discs spun ominously at their sides. The Root operatives had a split second to register the absurdity before the first wave of attacks hit.
A stream of molten cheese shot out from one puppet, slamming into the lead operative's face. His screams were muffled as the bubbling dairy seared through his mask, leaving behind a mess of melted cheese and charred flesh.
Another operative jumped backward, only to be impaled mid-air by a spinning pizza cutter disc. His body twitched violently before collapsing, his blood spraying out like overzealous pizza sauce from an overstuffed calzone.
Yuumi was laughing so hard she nearly fell from her perch. "I swear, this never gets old!"
Raven controlled the chaos with effortless precision, her Rinnegan glowing as she directed each puppet with surgical accuracy.
"They should've known better than to mess with the Sage of Six Slices," she quipped, launching another wave of molten cheese at a group of advancing operatives.
One particularly agile Root agent managed to dodge the initial onslaught, weaving through the chaos to lunge at Mikoto with a kunai poised to strike. But before he could get within range, a puppet fired a blistering ball of marinara sauce that hit him square in the chest. The force sent him flying backward, his scream trailing off as he crashed into a tree, coated in scalding tomato paste.
Another operative tried to retreat, but a puppet's cheese whip lashed out, wrapping around his leg and yanking him back into the fray. He struggled, but the more he fought, the tighter the whip constricted, until he was drenched in molten mozzarella and left twitching on the forest floor.
The last operative, realizing the hopelessness of the situation, dropped his weapon and tried to crawl away. But Raven wasn't done.
With a flick of her wrist, a puppet launched a final pepperoni disc, slicing through the operative's leg. His scream echoed through the clearing as he collapsed, his blood mingling with the rich scent of melted cheese and baked dough.
Raven dusted off her hands, watching the carnage with a satisfied grin. "And that's how you deliver a hot, fresh defeat."
Mikoto stepped forward, her expression a mix of awe and exasperation. "You're insane."
Raven winked. "And yet, here you are, following me anyway."
Mikoto shook her head, but a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. She'd never admit it aloud, but Raven's madness was strangely reassuring.
With the Root threat neutralized, Mikoto gathered her women at the edge of the glowing portal. The air was thick with the scent of victory and mozzarella, a combination that felt both absurd and oddly fitting.
Raven gestured toward the portal, her expression suddenly serious. "This portal won't stay open forever. Time to go."
Mikoto hesitated, her gaze drifting back toward the village she had called home for so long. The weight of what she was leaving behind pressed heavily on her chest, but she knew there was no turning back.
She turned to Raven, her voice soft but resolute. "This is really going to work?"
Raven's grin returned, full of confidence and a touch of madness. "Oh, it'll work. And trust me, pizza sauce is going to play a much bigger role in the future than anyone could possibly imagine."
Mikoto let out a dry laugh. "If you say so."
With that, she stepped into the portal, leading her Uchiha Free Company into the unknown. The moment they crossed the threshold, a warm, cheesy scent enveloped them, and the world blurred into a swirl of reds and golds.
As the last of the women disappeared, Raven deactivated the seals, the cauldron of pizza sauce simmering down to a quiet bubble.
Yuumi stretched lazily, flicking her tail. "Well, that was fun. What's next?"
Raven's smirk turned sharp. "Now we wait."
Yuumi raised an eyebrow. "For what?"
Raven's eyes glinted dangerously. "The massacre."
