Chapter 29: Chapter 26: Echoes of the Breaking Point
---
Prologue: The Edge of Oblivion
Silence.
It stretched endlessly, swallowing everything.
Akira drifted in a white void, unable to move, unable to breathe. His thoughts felt disconnected, fraying apart like unraveling threads. He tried to speak, but no sound escaped his lips.
A moment ago—no, an eternity ago—he had been standing on solid ground, fighting against Minh and Cetz. And now?
He was nowhere.
Or perhaps, he was never.
"Your story ends here, Akira."
Minh's voice echoed in his skull, though Minh was nowhere to be seen.
"Just accept it."
Pain lanced through his mind, images flashing through his consciousness.
His mother's voice singing to him as a child.
Hiroshi standing with his sword drawn, his back unyielding.
Daisuke's reckless grin as he revved his motorcycle.
Kenji's steady presence, his laughter like rolling thunder.
Mei's quiet, unwavering strength.
They were still out there. Still fighting.
And if they were still fighting—
Then so was he.
Akira clenched his fists, feeling something deep inside him resist the nothingness.
And then—
The silence shattered.
---
Phase One: The Resurgence of Sound
A pulse of energy rippled through the void.
It wasn't light. It wasn't heat. It was sound—deep, resonating vibrations that coursed through Akira's body, pulling him back into himself.
His vision flickered.
Something shifted in the white abyss.
A figure stepped forward.
Golden eyes. A smirking expression.
Cetz.
But something was wrong.
This wasn't the Cetz who stood beside Minh. This Cetz looked younger—his features softer, untouched by time's cruelty.
Akira's heartbeat quickened. His Stand, Echo Chamber, flickered weakly at his side. He forced himself to speak. "What… are you?"
Cetz's smirk widened. "A memory. A possibility. A flaw in time." He crouched beside Akira, tilting his head. "More importantly, I'm here to remind you of something."
Akira's breath was heavy. "…What?"
Cetz leaned in, his voice quiet but absolute.
"You're the only one who can break the cycle."
A shiver ran down Akira's spine.
Then—
The illusion shattered.
---
Phase Two: Escape from the Phantom Nightmares
Akira's eyes snapped open.
He was back.
The battlefield still twisted and warped under Minh's control. The air itself seemed to hum unnaturally, as if time and space had been folded into impossible shapes. Shadows flickered in and out of existence.
Hiroshi, Kenji, Daisuke, and Mei were still trapped inside their nightmares, their bodies frozen, their faces twisted in terror.
But Akira—
Akira could move.
Minh's gaze flicked toward him, his silver eyes narrowing.
Cetz, standing nearby, let out a low whistle. "Huh. Wasn't expecting that."
Akira wiped the blood from his mouth and forced himself to stand. His legs felt like lead, his lungs burned, but his mind was sharper than ever.
Minh raised a single hand. The air cracked as time around Akira slowed, threatening to drag him back into nothingness.
But this time—
Akira fought back.
"Echo Chamber—RESOUND!"
A massive shockwave exploded from his Stand. The air rippled, the ground beneath him cracking as the sheer force of sound tore through the space Minh had bent.
The illusion wavered.
The nightmare broke.
Hiroshi gasped as he snapped out of his trance, his katana gleaming as he took a defensive stance.
Kenji roared, slamming a fist into the ground as the weight of the rubble disappeared from his shoulders.
Daisuke's eyes blazed with fury as he broke free from the phantom flames.
Mei stood tall, her breath steady, her resolve sharper than ever.
Minh frowned.
Cetz clapped slowly. "Oh, that's interesting."
Akira exhaled sharply, his eyes locking onto Minh's. "We're not done yet."
---
Phase Three: Fighting Against Time Itself
Minh's expression remained unreadable. Then, without a word, he raised his hand.
The battlefield froze.
Time itself stopped.
Kenji was locked mid-step, his punch halfway thrown.
Hiroshi's blade gleamed in the frozen air, inches from striking Minh's side.
Daisuke's movements halted, the wind around him turning eerily still.
Mei's stance remained unbroken, but she was motionless.
Everything was trapped in Minh's control.
But this time—
Akira moved.
Minh's eyes narrowed.
Cetz's smirk widened.
A slow exhale escaped Minh's lips. "Interesting."
Akira could feel the weight of time pressing down on him, trying to force him back into stillness. But his Stand—his sound—resonated outside of time itself.
Echo Chamber thrummed, vibrations spilling out into the frozen battlefield. It was weak, unstable—but it was there.
Minh's expression darkened.
Cetz chuckled. "Looks like your little trick isn't working, Minh."
Minh ignored him, tilting his head slightly at Akira. "So, you're resisting?" His fingers twitched.
Time reversed.
Akira's body was suddenly yanked backward, rewinding five seconds into the past. He gasped as he found himself mid-motion again, his stance undone, his breath stolen.
But he moved again.
Minh frowned.
"Fascinating," he murmured. "Your Stand… doesn't obey time."
Akira clenched his fists. "Damn right it doesn't."
Echo Chamber's vibrations grew stronger. The battlefield trembled.
For the first time—Minh looked annoyed.
Cetz tilted his head, watching the scene unfold with amusement. "Well, well. Maybe this fight will be more fun than we thought."
Minh's silver eyes gleamed.
Then—
The ground vanished.
The battlefield collapsed into a swirling abyss of fractured time.
Minh vanished.
Cetz smiled.
And Akira—along with his friends—plunged into the unknown.
