Drug-addled addicts, lunatics running amok, shooters firing randomly for sheer amusement, and street racers feeling humiliated after being overtaken.

The wheels were already stained red from the countless people writhing on the ground who were then run over.

But before Zhang Ge could encounter the grand event he was anticipating, the heavily fortified entrance to the underhive came into view.

Numerous enforcers and PDF troops were stationed there, establishing a sizable blockade.

Although the elevators had long ceased operation, the main structure connecting the underhive to the lower hive itself posed the greatest risk. Factions from the underhive would climb along this massive column to the base of the partition wall, embedding building supports into the column to create a sprawling complex.

This complex resembled a spiderweb atop a decaying pillar, with one side attached to the column and the other clinging to the "ceiling."

They were able to use this to conveniently carry out construction on the partition walls, opening up unpredictable breaches and infiltrating the lower hive.

The strategic importance of such a location need not be elaborated. Just this single core operation alone was enough to sustain an entire large family or gang in the underhive.

On the surface side, since it was unclear how far the underground structures extended, there was effectively no way to counter the excavation activities of the underhive.

The complex that now entered Zhang Ge's field of vision appeared heavily guarded, but that was only in the areas with the most severe control measures.

As for places farther away from here, if a passage was discovered, it would naturally be blocked. However, expecting to control all the breaches was simply beyond the capabilities of the current manpower.

The surroundings gradually quieted down, and inside the vehicle, only the sound of movement could be heard.

The vehicle slowly approached the blockade zone ahead, which was surrounded by a large number of barbed wire and iron fences.

As it drew closer, the ceramite gates on both sides enlarged, and two tall towers stood beside them. When the distance was roughly one kilometer away, the towers began projecting conspicuous red deceleration and speed limit reminders onto the road surface, and at the end of the deceleration zone, a horizontal line was drawn to indicate where vehicles should stop.

Obviously, if one refused to comply, the deployed turrets and heavy weapons would not hesitate to act.

Zhang Ge had no intention of being a troublemaker either. After slowing down, he stopped the vehicle in front of the line they had drawn.

But there was no inspection as expected. A red beam shot out, scanning the license plate at the front of the vehicle, and then the ceramite gates opened to both sides.

It was then that Zhang Ge remembered that this car was still taken from Ernesto. Given that his status could match that of a high-ranking Tech-Priest and he could afford to maintain so many PDF, it was clear that his family's influence in the hive city was not insignificant.

However, he never expected that this privilege would first come into play in such a place.

The vehicle started moving again and drove into the interior.

As they drove deeper, they could see shacks scattered inside the wire fences. The absence of proper buildings was understandable—after all, the underhive creatures digging holes below wouldn't care about structural integrity.

If something were built here and caused a massive collapse, the filth from the pit would crawl up, courtesy of nature's generosity.

After a short distance, an officer leading a small squad of PDF approached the vehicle. They all bore the insignia of the Ernesto family.

When Zhang Ge stopped the car and rolled down the window, the officer handed him a form through the window, showing no inclination to ask further questions.

A family agent? An heir with a sudden sense of adventure? Or perhaps a bastard looking to make a name for himself? A cleaner handling stolen goods?

As long as their goal was to reach the underhive, it wasn't his concern.

All he had to do was retrieve the form and then send them down as requested. Even if the vehicle was stolen and the person used it to enter the restricted zone and descend to the underhive, it wouldn't fall on him to be held accountable. Instead, the blame should be placed on whoever failed to delete the license plate recognition in time.

Nobles always have many secrets. For them, minimizing any potential risks and maximizing confidentiality is far more important than anything else.

Soon, the form was handed back. Although it only required the most basic and vague information, he didn't bother to take a second look. In front of the driver, he folded the form and sealed it in a bag.

After handing the sealed bag to a guard to be sent away, the officer turned and said:

"Please follow me."

The vehicle, maintaining the same speed as the walker, followed him around a corner, no longer heading deeper but instead veering to the side.

After parking in the indicated spot, Zhang Ge and Amilia approached the metal cylinder that protruded more than two meters from the ground. The latter left the two small angels in the car, as such a thing was too conspicuous in the underhive.

The officer approached the cylinder, entered a few numbers on the external keypad, and the hinged door on one side opened, revealing six seats inside.

Indeed, while the underhivers were digging upwards, this side occasionally drilled a few holes downward as well. After all, even without considering other dirty work, the nobles couldn't completely lose touch with the underhive. Otherwise, if a full-blown cult were to emerge, it could bring the entire hive to ruin.

Those tasked with such missions needed a fixed method to descend; they couldn't very well use the tunnels dug by the underhivers, could they? That would be suicidal.

Thus, this tool came into being. It was similar to a drop pod, though obviously much cheaper. They would pass through this one-time-use hole and drop the occupants into the underhive.

Due to the complete uncertainty of the landing point, this method of transportation is extremely risky and is jokingly referred to as the "round coffin."

Most people prefer to use gravity chutes to jump down themselves.

However, the two currently lack gravity chutes and obviously cannot use jump packs to descend... otherwise, the people in the underhive would definitely not mind gathering around to see what this shiny, falling object is.

So, they have no choice but to experience this makeshift drop pod.

Upon entering, the interior appears just as simple as its exterior, featuring only a descent distance counter displaying numbers at the top, a few cabinets containing gas masks, and the rest is purely iron-gray.

The two took their seats. Zhang Ge glanced at the gas masks in the cabinet beside him. Recalling that while he might not be affected by toxic substances in the air, he could still smell normally, he quickly took one out and put it on.

Even if he wouldn't be poisoned... considering the centuries-old odors that might be brewing in the underhive, Zhang Ge thought it better not to experience this unique local flavor.

As he had just put on his mask, the officer who had been adjusting the equipment outside also walked in. After placing down what looked like a scanner, he said:

"This will locate your position as well as the location of this entrance. If you wish to exit through this entrance within 48 hours, you can open the flap on top and press the button. I will open the entrance on this side, but you only have one chance to press the button."

After speaking, he left the interior. Zhang Ge, being nearby, casually picked up the phone-sized positioning tool and placed it in his bag.

The doors swiftly closed, leaving only a faint light source from a small lamp inside.
