Chapter 4: Great Power Pending…
Peter's POV
"I thought you were bringing your camera."
"It's broken," I admitted. Technically true Peter had dropped it before I ended up in his body.
Ned didn't push the topic any further and turned his attention back to our teacher, Mr. Trump, who was busy laying out the usual list of rules about what we should and shouldn't do at Oscorp.
Today's the day.
The day I get my wand.
Wait. No.
The day I get bitten by a spider and become Spider-Man because, fortunately, I'm not Harry Potter.
Though, I wouldn't mind having a Dumbledore template.
That old man with twinkling eyes is basically the Xavier of the wizarding world, with Grindelwald being his Magneto.
Though I like depp as Grindelwald more than madellson.
"Alright, head to the bus," our teacher finally said, waving us off.
I sighed, relieved to escape the endless lecture. Not a fan of long speeches, but I get why they matter.
Climbing onto the bus, I took my usual seat next to Ned.
Peter didn't have many people he actively talked to especially with all the bullying. But now, things were different. Not because people suddenly liked him, but because everyone knew what had happened.
Everyone knew I or rather, Peter had lost Aunt May.
And in the entire school, the only person Peter ever really talked to actually talked to, not just replied to was Ned.
Not that I minded. I preferred silence too.
Of course, that didn't mean Ned wasn't going to keep talking.
"So, Oscorp," Ned said, adjusting his backpack. "Do you think we'll get to see the special projects?"
"Like what?" I asked.
"You know, the military stuff. The real top-secret gear."
I leaned back in my seat, watching the city blur past the window. "Ned, we're high schoolers on a field trip. They're not even gonna let us near the cool stuff."
Ned grinned. "Yeah, but what if we 'accidentally' take a wrong turn—"
"I'd rather not get shot for trespassing, thanks."
"Yeah, yeah," he said, shrugging. "But if we did, you know it'd be awesome."
The rest of the ride was just Ned bouncing between conspiracy theories, hypothetical espionage, and the very real possibility that Oscorp had a basement full of mutant lizard people. By the time we pulled up to the building, I'd heard at least six different ways this tour could turn into a sci-fi horror movie.
Oscorp Tower loomed over us, all sleek glass and intimidating branding. The name was plastered down the side, just like in The Amazing Spider-Man.
Before we could enter, security checked our IDs. Bags weren't allowed inside, so we had to leave them behind. We were only permitted to bring a notebook and a pen.
Ned nudged me as we moved past security. "Think they're trying to stop corporate spies?"
"Or stop us from messing with anything expensive," I muttered, glancing at the high-tech security systems around the entrance.
Mr. Trump clapped his hands together, gathering the group. "Alright, everyone, listen up! Stay with the tour guide, no wandering off, and absolutely no taking samples."
Ned turned to me. "Think they had problems with that before?"
"Either that or they really don't trust high schoolers."
I feel later.
Right on cue, a woman in a sharp grey suit walked up. She had the 'I'm busy and you're wasting my time' energy of someone who had seen way too many students drool over Oscorp tech.
"Welcome to Oscorp," she said, voice smooth, professional, and 100% done with life. "I'm Dr. Connors, and I'll be leading your tour today."
Wait. Connors?
I barely kept my expression neutral. Either she was related to that Dr. Connors, or Oscorp just had a habit of collecting scientists with ominous surnames.
Though, from what I could see, she had both hands. Despite that, the possibility of her being an alternate version of a future Lizard? Not low.
Ned, of course, had no such filter. "Connors? Like the scientist who—"
"Yes," she interrupted, clearly used to it. "Now, if you'll follow me, we'll begin the tour."
She turned on her heel, leading us into Oscorp's very expensive hallways.
Ned leaned in. "Dude. She is way too intense."
"Welcome to corporate science," I muttered.
I followed the group, my brain still stuck on one important thought.
I was minutes away from getting superpowers.
And honestly?
Can't wait.
Yes, I had a gacha system, so there was no possibility of walking away empty-handed.
But still getting them this way?
Just these thoughts are giving me goosebumps.
