I'm Really Not A Nen Exorcist (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 508: Chapter 508 I Am Neither Senile Nor Easily Fooled

'That crafty old man...'

Moses looked down at his phone.

'He sent a text message just as the second phase was about to end. It seemed that he was still worried that I would stir up some chaos.'

'Maybe I could just pretend I hadn't seen it, eliminate half of the examinees on the spot, and call it a day.'

'As this thought crossed his mind, Moses calmly pocketed his phone, then took out a notebook from his pocket, looked at the many examinees in the venue who could not hide their shock, and said with a smile:

"Next, I'll announce the examinees who have passed the third phase of the exam."

After these words were spoken, the examinees who were shocked by Moses's identity as the examiner doubted their ears for a moment.

'Those who passed the third phase?'

'What do you mean?'

'The third phase hasn't started yet?!'

The examinees gawked blankly at Moses, who is holding his notebook.

They have never heard of the examiner of the Hunter Exam participating in the test normally with the examinees, nor have they ever heard of the test ending before it even began.

Aside from the unbothered Hisoka and Killua, most of the examinees were utterly baffled by Moses's behavior.

"In short..."

Moses maintained a gentle smile and was about to explain to the examinees when the phone he had just put in his pocket suddenly rang.

When Pro Hunters are carrying out commissions or launching certain actions, they will consciously turn their phones to silent mode. However, when serving as Hunter Exam's examiners, they had to keep their phones on with critical alerts enabled per the Review Committee's requirements.

Hearing the high-frequency ringing of an incoming phone call, Moses paused. He didn't even need to look to know who was calling.

"Menchi."

Without taking out his phone immediately, Moses looked at Menchi and asked, "Are there any surveillance cameras or similar devices set up here?"

"No."

Menchi replied immediately.

Buhara, who was standing behind her, looked at Moses in surprise, clearly as startled as everyone else by Moses's announcement.

"Got it."

Moses smiled at Menchi, then freed one hand and reached into his pocket, ready to hang up the call.

But just as he put his right hand into his pocket, he heard Buhara suddenly exclaimed.

"Examiner Moses, there is a text message for you. It's from the Chairman."

Buhara held up his cell phone and shouted at Moses.

Moses slowly turned to Buhara. His intention had been to hang up the call, but now, he had no choice but to take out his phone.

The incoming call number displayed on his phone screen belongs to Beans.

'Persistent, isn't he...'

'It seems I was just one step away from a full-on red card warning.'

Moses hung up the call from Beans, then took the specially customized and oversized phone from Buhara and looked at the content of the text message.

"To Moses Isaac."

"I am Netero. Kindly note, while I may be aged, I am neither senile nor easily fooled."

After reading this second text message sent by Netero, Moses lowered his eyelids and handed the phone back to Buhara.

'Fine.'

'Since you're sending the text message in your own name, you're not representing the Review Committee, right?'

'So, the previous promise made by the Review Committee that they would never interfere with the examiner's rights...'

'That was null and void now.'

Moses shook his head slightly.

'Forget it, let's give that old man a bit of face.'

Thinking of this, Moses dismissed the idea of swiftly wrapping up the third phase. Looking back at the candidates, he smiled again and said: "In short... that was just a joke."

"…"

The venue suddenly fell into deathly silence.

Most of the candidates stared at Moses with complex expressions.

They had a feeling...

That the upcoming third phase would be anything but pleasant.

"Having stood out among millions of applicants, you've already proven your abilities."

While Moses was thinking about the test for the third phase, he said with a warm smile: "So... before the third phase begins, I can assure you that what awaits you will be a test with a zero mortality rate."

"…"

After hearing Moses's words, the examinees looked at each other, all quietly shaken.

'Zero mortality rate...'

For some reason, they suddenly found the handsome guy in front of them much more pleasing to the eye.

Menchi and Buhara, who had already completed their roles as examiners, also looked at Moses, each with a different expression.

There was a gleam in Menchi's eyes, while Buhara looked somewhat perplexed.

After all, in the Hunter Exam's history, no test had ever guaranteed zero mortality rate.

Buhara studied Moses quietly, and felt that this Single-Star Pro Hunter, with whom he had little contact, had a trait very similar to that of Netero.

Facing the surprised looks from the examinees, Moses kept smiling, but he had roughly determined the test for the third phase in his mind.

However, since the test was an impromptu idea, he still needed to fill in some details.

Plus, he has to borrow the Review Committee's airship.

'Let's talk to Beans first.'

Moses thought to himself, and his right hand moved to take out his phone to contact Beans.

But just then, the buzzing of an airship's rotors echoed from outside the warehouse.

"Oh?"

Moses raised an eyebrow and turned back to look at the open warehouse doors.

Just when he'd been ready to end the third phase with minimal effort, Netero had come through with a combination of text and calls to ensure he wouldn't.

Just as he changed his mind and decided he needed an airship, one arrived right on time.

Moses didn't believe that Netero had planned things to this level of precision.

It was more likely a final safety measure.

Two text messages and a call from Beans might not have been enough to settle the old man's concerns, so Netero had likely calculated when the second phase would end and arranged for the Review Committee's airship to arrive around that time. All in case Moses ignored the messages and the call.

In other words-

There is a high probability that Netero is also on that airship.

Realizing the underlying plan, Moses found it mildly irritating but didn't bother dwelling on Netero's trickery.

After all, the conditions for a spar agreed upon at that time had been in line with his own intentions.

"Let's get on that airship first. Before the third phase starts, you'll have at least one day to rest."

Moses withdrew his gaze and looked at the examinees again.

Hearing Moses's words, the examinees felt a small sense of relief.

Even though Moses had verbally assured them that the mortality rate of the third phase was zero, until the details were revealed, nobody really knew what Moses had planned.

Therefore, in order to prepare for the coming test, they really need to have a good rest after a tiring day to recharge their energy.
