I Have a Girlfriend in Marvel

Chapter 111: The Joker Wants to Buy New York, Then Blow it Up

The Great Wall: when foreigners see it, they're simply amazed. Using ancient manpower to build such a long wall across rugged mountains seems incredible and impressive to them.

That's why the literal English translation is "The Great Wall."

But what the Great Wall truly means to China, and its significant place in the nation's cultural and historical heritage, is something foreigners don't really understand.

Of course, even if you try to explain it in detail to them, they might not care. They only want to hear what they're interested in and don't really care about the truth of what you are.

Otherwise, a proper Great Wall movie wouldn't have turned into a "white savior + sleeping Chinese princess" story.

However, Harry, who's quite familiar with China, knows a bit more.

"So, our team will be called the Great Wall Army?"

Su Ye shook his head. "Our team is a group of people protecting Earth. We're just a team, not an army, so for now, let's call ourselves the Great Wall Guardians!"

If the scale expands in the future, we can then call ourselves the Great Wall Army.

With the name decided, Green Armor Hero Harry officially became a member of the Great Wall Guardians and, as a senior figure in the Red Shield branch, began preparing for its construction.

His enthusiasm for the work even surpassed Su Ye's.

According to Harry, the Osborn Group was something he and Su Ye inherited from their fathers. It wasn't truly their own venture, so they could leave it to the professionals while they focused on the big picture.

But the Red Shield branch was different. It was a venture he and Su Ye started together, something truly their own. Only by doing it well could they showcase their true capabilities.

As a result, Harry, full of enthusiasm, rushed to work on building the Red Shield's structure, while Su Ye ended up with more free time.

"Remember, our job is to protect Earth, to guard the shared home of humanity. We defend this community, not just America. This is our most basic principle!"

After giving these instructions, Su Ye suddenly felt at a loss for things to do. There was still some time before the university semester began, and unless something unusual happened, his only options seemed to be racing with Sharon or practicing martial arts with Hinata.

After weighing his options, Su Ye settled into a routine: racing at night, sparring during the day, and occasionally visiting Gwen to spread some positive vibes. It was a fulfilling and pleasant daily life.

Mai Shiranui and her friends had a wild time. After finishing their trip in Los Angeles, they didn't even return to New York. Instead, they flew straight out of the U.S., reportedly at Athena's invitation, to tour Japan.

Mai Shiranui didn't return, and Blue Mary hadn't come to New York either. She said she needed to stay in D.C. for some training with her father.

Naturally, Su Ye had no objections. He could only remark that the female fighters of King of Fighters were incredibly independent, with their own ideas, ambitions, and lives—which was great.

During the period when Su Ye began his dull yet fulfilling routine, New York remained relatively calm.

Max's exoneration from being labeled a super-powered criminal and Times Square attacker required some formalities, but Nick Fury promised to handle it, so Su Ye didn't need to intervene.

The only noteworthy event was probably that Captain America had been found.

The excavation and thawing of Cap were handled by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Su Ye's Red Shield branch wasn't involved, as Alexander Pierce didn't want them to participate.

Even though the Red Shield branch was established, the pressure from old Pierce was immense. His vigilance and restrictions on Red Shield never ceased.

Su Ye understood this but had no intention of acting against Alexander Pierce. No matter who held that position, the suppression of Red Shield would persist.

When Cap was brought back, Su Ye went to take a look. To him, Cap seemed no different from a plucked, frozen piece of pork.

Back when he used to watch movies, Su Ye had envied Cap's muscular physique. He once fantasized about having such a body without working out, making women drool over him.

Now that he had such a physique himself, there was nothing about Captain America to envy anymore.

The whole "evenly matched" thing wasn't impressive at all.

If your ability is strong enough, there's no need for an even match—you just crush them.

Cap's thawing and recovery were proceeding smoothly, which also meant that the Battle of New York was approaching.

It was now the summer of 2011. Theoretically, there was still a year left before the 2012 Battle of New York, as shown in the movies.

However, after experiencing so much, Su Ye knew that the timeline from the movies was no longer reliable. What's meant to happen will happen, but not necessarily at the original time.

Therefore, the Red Shield branch had to speed up its construction to prepare for the impending Battle of New York.

At the same time, in the shadows, the villains were also busy preparing for a major operation, and among them was the Joker, whom Su Ye had encountered before.

The Joker was in high spirits lately. With Dong Zhang as his henchman, he could negotiate with people while still wearing his signature grenade-laden outfit. However, he no longer had to resort to mutually assured destruction every time a negotiation fell apart.

Now, he could simply shut the door, unleash Dong Zhang, and enjoy the ensuing "Ora Ora Ora" beatdown.

The sight of a tornado-like destruction of an office always delighted the Joker.

Dong Zhang also thoroughly enjoyed these brawls. At Muse Bar, after a few initial fights, the troublemakers became fewer and fewer, leaving him so bored that he was practically growing moss.

Now, following the Joker around, he got to fight almost daily. Though the opponents weren't great, they were stubborn as heck.

For Dong Zhang, it wasn't about the opponents being skilled or not; he just hoped they had "hard heads" because the tougher they were, the more fun he had.

Besides, not all opponents were pushovers. Occasionally, there were some decent ones, like the elderly lady standing in front of him now.

She looked frail and elderly, seemingly on the verge of collapse, yet she possessed impressive martial skills and was adept at using energy techniques, particularly her formidable air palm strikes.

Dong Zhang initially intended to charge in and finish the old lady swiftly. But seeing her distinctly Asian face—rare in these parts—he hesitated.

Su Ye had previously told Dong Zhang that Asians were already a minority here and often bullied. Compared to whites and Latinos, they were even lower on the social ladder, often treated worse than black communities.

To change their status, they'd need to unite and collectively resist oppression from whites and blacks to fight for their rights and status.

Dong Zhang remembered this well, so when he encountered fellow Asians, he would hold back if he could.

The elderly woman on the other side also sensed the immense power within Dong Zhang's young body. After exchanging a few moves, she stopped.

At that moment, the Joker walked out, clapping his hands.

"What a splendid performance! I never thought that Madam Gao, at her age, could be so formidable. I'm in awe!"

Before Madam Gao could respond, the Joker continued.

"But with all this power, why do you choose to hide in dark caves, living like rats?"

"Who are you calling rats?" Madam Gao's subordinates shouted angrily.

"Relax, relax, maybe my wording was off," the Joker said, waving his hands.

"You're not rats by choice; you're rats because you have no other option. Pathetic survivors, unloved trash!"

The subordinates were instantly furious, clamoring to tear the Joker apart, but Madam Gao waved her hand, silencing them.

"What exactly do you want? Speak plainly."

"Good, a smart person. You saw through my tricks right away—I like you," the Joker said, tilting his head and pointing at Madam Gao, grinning.

"But your intelligence is limited; otherwise, you wouldn't be guarding treasure yet settling for life as a sewer rat."

This time, Madam Gao didn't respond. She simply stared at the Joker in silence.

The Joker shrugged. "Alright, seems like someone's not very patient. Let's get down to business then—about your underground treasure, the one that can grant longevity…"

"Enough!" Madam Gao interrupted sharply, then instructed her subordinates, "Leave us."

Madam Gao's subordinates left the room, but Dong Zhang stayed, arms crossed, silently watching the show.

"How did you find out?" Madam Gao asked the Joker, her words squeezed out through clenched teeth.

"That's not something you need to know. I'm just here to propose a collaboration," the Joker said, tilting his head back with his signature eerie grin.

"And how do we collaborate?" Madam Gao didn't outright reject the proposal because the Joker had uncovered her secret—or rather, the shared secret of the Five Elders of the Hand: the Dragon Bones.

A substance found underground that could extend life. It was the secret behind the Hand Elders' centuries-long lifespans.

"It's simple. First, I need a piece of the Dragon Bone. Not too big, just enough to demonstrate its power."

Madam Gao glanced at the Joker and shook her head. "At your age, it doesn't seem like you need such a thing."

The Joker smirked. "Of course, I don't need it. But someone else does."

"Who?"

"The President!"

The Joker's grin widened, once again sending shivers down the spine.

"I'm going to use the Dragon Bone to buy all of New York from him—then blow it up."

Madam Gao's wrinkled face instantly filled with confusion. "Are you insane?"
